2011-2012 Psychology PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I still haven't seen any postings about University of Washington (adult track), I was told the other day that they usually accept students who work in their labs rather than new applicants.
I think I'm crossing UT-Austin (clinical) off the list also since it seems like a phone interview is required from awhile ago, and they get TONS of apps.

Getting a Master's is also an awesome awesome option for those of you who are coming out of undergrad. It will really give you a taste of what it will be like in a PhD with a little less pressure. Plus I hear (hopefully) quite a few courses will transfer.

Have fun and good luck 🙂

Not necessarily to this poster, but anyone who is thinking about getting a masters first, I spoke to a number of people who have and have not done masters first. essentially in their experience little if any credits will transfer. It was mainly suggested for those with low undergrad gpas. So if credits transferring is a concern I'd say check in with the schools youre applying to.

I called Ferkauf yesterday and I was told they are not done with interview invites. And, they have multiple interview dates in February. Does anyone else want to take a shot and confirm this?
It's a bit early yet to hear from them. So this makes sense.

A masters will help if you had a high undergrad gpa but low gre scores. If you can get a masters with another high gpa it hopefully show schools that the gre is not an accurate portrayal of your academic abilities

Here's a question: what are the chances of being e-mailed / called over the weekend by your POI? Is that something that happens?

I ask this because I got contacted via e-mail for one interview on a Thursday at 9pm, and I was under the impression that a typical 9-5 time would be when they'd contact us....ideas?

I'm going crazy waiting to hear back from University of Arizona. Has anyone heard anything from them? When have they sent out invites in the past?

I received an invite today to University at Albany via phone call. The interview dates are Feb 24th or 27th. This is for the Counseling Psychology program. 😍

Congrats, were you contacted by your POI or grad secretary?

Be ready at all times!! Although I don't think they would call you during the weekend, don't go by the 9-5 schedule for emails or phone calls during the week. One of my interview invite phone calls came in at 8:30pm and almost all my emails were after 6pm. Also keep in mind that some of these programs are in different time zones. I've only heard of one Sunday-morning-phone-call horror story from a friend, but I think that is rare.

I just e-mailed the Director of the Clinical Program at GW about PhD interviews and this is what he said:

We had a record number of applications this year, so we are still finishing our first round of reviews. We should be letting people know in the next few days about interviews, which we plan to schedule for the end of February.

So there's hope!
Thanks for sharing this info!

Oh wow, okay thanks for letting me know!! UF said they'd be done notifying by the end of this week, so I didn't know if I should wait til Friday or Sunday 🙄

I got a phone call from one of my POIs on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago--and he wanted to do a phone interview! So yeah, I think any time of any day is fair game.

Can someone please explain why a school would contact you for missing information when I know invites have already gone out? Talk about insult to injury just have a complete file on a reject? Or does this mean there's hope? Ahhhhh 🙁

I'm taking it to mean that they are still reviewing files for offering invites. I dont think they would take the time to get all the info if they had extended all their interviews and were just going to out-right reject you. Seems like a wasted effort.

A lot of schools send out invites and rejections as they go through applications. Just because someone says they recieved an invite and it looked mass doesn't mean it included all of the applicants just the ones they have gone through so far.

Any word on Boston University or University of Virginia- Charlottesville?

To the school psychology applicants out there (minority I know), anyone hear anything from the university of Maryland school psychology phd program?

I applied and still haven't heard anything.

Anyone heard from University of Arizona or University of New Mexico Clinical yet? Haven't seen either really mentioned here or on GSC.....

I'm going crazy waiting to hear back from University of Arizona. Has anyone heard anything from them? When have they sent out invites in the past?

I think most if not all interview invites for U of A have been extended. Their interview weekend is the weekend of 2/10.

I was invited to interview at Virginia Commonwealth University, Clinical Psych PhD on 1/19 by email from a grad student. Interviews will take place on 2/3 and 2/24

I see on the first page that Boston College is listed as one of the places that has extended interview invites for Counseling Psychology, but I was wondering if this was for the PsyD and not the PhD. Has anyone heard from Boston College?

Thanks 🙂

I just saw the TGC post about the UMass Boston invite today. If you got an invite to interview there, would you mind PMing me your POI?

Also, has anyone applying to the experimental psychopathology track at UCSD/SDSU heard back about interviews? I'm not sure when they'll be done.

For those of you who seem to be getting mixed messages about UHouston, they met last friday to make interview invite decisions, and I was contacted on Saturday. The interview is indeed on Feb 24/25.

I go to the University of Arizona as an undergrad, and my Clinical Psychology professor Hal Arkowitz, interviews most of the applicants and he said most of the interview invites have been sent out, however they usually do not sent out rejection notices until they have filled the seats, which is typically 5.

Just got a rejection from the dean of graduate studies via email.

(re: ClinicalPsyPhd's post): Yes, I received a call from my POI in the at SDSU/UCSD in the experimental psychopathology track of the clinical psych program around 3 or 4 days ago, inviting me to interview 2/19-2/21. Good luck! :xf:

Teachers College (Columbia)
PhD in Counseling Psych
received Feb 1

Received a forwarded e-mail from a lecturer in the program (not my POI) via the Academic Program Secretary. Interview date will be Feb 16 OR 17, but not either one. Another e-mail will be sent when they settle on the day. The e-mail referred to the Feb interview as happening "next month", so it was clear that the original acceptance e-mail had been sent sometime in January. I saw on here that TC sent out acceptance e-mails on Jan 27, so it appears I was wait listed. E-mail said they do not do phone interviews except in cases of emergency. I replied that I had already committed to interviewing at University of Miami on the 16th and 17th but I would be happy to interview in person any other time. Got a reply saying that I would likely not be able to interview for the program 🙁

I don't understand... Aren't they missing out on lots of highly qualified applicants if they won't interview anyone who already got invited to an interview on that popular date? I guess they have so many qualified applicants they don't care

I'm in exactly the same position. I just had to tell them I wouldn't be able to attend because of other interview commitments. I've already had to decline an interview offer on those same days but at least that program was willing to consider an alternate day/skype interview.

Given how competitive the process is, I am grateful to be getting interviews at all. However, that makes declining an interview opportunity even harder 🙁

Yeah, it did hurt but you could look at it as declining an interview at an Ivy League school, like a boss.
TC doesn't seem to offer much financial aid anyway. Still... would have liked to interview at least!

Hey everyone! I just registered today so this news is a little old but I wanted to contribute it anyways: I received an email from Wichita State University on January 13th inviting me to an interview for their PhD in Clinical Psy on either February 24th or March 2nd, which ever one worked better for me. The odd thing about this was that January 13th is actually two days before the application deadline--I guess I'll take that as a good sign. Has anyone else heard from Wichita?

Also, would like to know if anyone has heard from the University of Rhode Island? Someone posted on GC that they received an interview invite but I haven't seen anything on here about it and URI's website says Interview Day is scheduled for February 13th, so I am assuming that all invites have been sent. Just wanted to confirm.

Thanks and best of luck to everyone!

I had the same situation, are you sure you have to be at U Miami on both the 16th and 17th? I committed to an interview at Texas A&M on the 16th and 17th, but then later wrote them asking if I could skip the 16th as only the 17th was the formal interview day and they said that would work fine. I then called Teacher's College and asked them to guarantee 16th as my interview date, which they did too.

Oh boy, I would love this information as well! Austin is the last school I'm waiting to hear from, and for some insane reason I still have an ounce of hope! Argh! Any information would be hugely appreciated.

I didn't apply to Houston, but a friend of mine got an invitation to interviews last week for the Clinical program.
