if you haven't been rejected though, i'm sure that you are very much still in the running....seems like you are an incredibly qualified applicant.

I, on the other hand, am a mediocre/below avg applicant so the rejection was not that surprising, so it's all good. I'm trying to console myself through this process remembering that i did get love from wash u for undergrad and medschool and turned them down...still burns though!

also i am not much of an stl fan though, def prefer chitown if we are talking midwest!

They probably meant to say "Now it's our turn." :meanie: JK, their loss!

You turned down Wash U for med school 😕😱😕... I hope you went to JHU or HMS...

And what the hell did you do in med school to be a "mediocre/below avg applicant" for IM? Smoke the bong all day?

Thanks drVN, I hope you hear some good news from them! I don't mind rejections as much from cities that are not as desirable such as stl, new haven, etc. but i am hoping that the cities i legitimately like show me some love. despite the whole living at the hospital thing, i would still like to be in a sweet city during my 1 day a week that i am not working during residency.

francisco84, i figured it is pretty obvious from this forum how qualified the applicant pool for IM is this year. it is fairly easy to be below avg this year given the frighteningly large crowd of 260/AOA kids in the applicant pool.

Dude, you don't know about the SDN selection bias? Every neurotic freak is going to be on this board. They are also the same people who do ridiculous things like get AOA or scor 260+... SDN is NOT representative of the field. Maybe the average will go up a little, but remember last few years the average step 1 for IM was around 223-224.

Having only a P in IM is going to hold you back at some super high end places, and the whole thing is largely a crap shoot. But a 238 is going to keep a lot of doors at a lot of solid places open. Hopefully you got an H in your AI/Sub-I which will help a lot at some of the higher end places. But I'm pretty sure you'll get a spot in a city of your liking.

NOW, get off the self-pity wagon and kick some ass!

Thanks man-it's helpful to put things in perspective with the whole SDN selection bias thing! Now onto focusing on kicking some ass lol...

I finally made the Wash U cull list. Just as well since I can't stand Tony LaRussa (he says fighting back a tear)Hope the rest of you guys are doing better.

WTF? I'm surprised that you did. You seem to be getting great interviews. I hate the Cards!

Random process. They're clearly big on board scores. Wasn't my day. Take it one game at a time. Give 110%. Life in the big city. You can't win 'em all.

Thanks for the encouragement. It all works out. Eventually.

I'm sure you will match somewhere amazing, so no worries...it's their loss

wow, i seem to be a regular contributor to this thread vs. the iv invite thread! oh well....

UNC, MCW, Drexel

Seems like no more invites for me this season!

Time to nail the interviews

So UNC really stuck it hard today huh?

I'm beginning to realize that the word "interview" needs to be in subject title. If not, its doomsday.

I remember when I figured that out last year. It was a sad day, because there was no more mystery. You just knew from the title.

do all programs send out letters of rejection or if you don't hear from them, do you assume you haven't gotten an interview? i have not heard from a couple of programs that have sent out interviews (i.e. brown and jefferson), however i have not gotten rejections either.

Unfortunately, a lot of places won't even say, "no"

You will still get an invite or two in December, but if the place was reach and you haven't heard anything by the end of November assume it's a no.

Thanks, wasn't considering those places as reaches but was worried that a number of others on sdn have received interviews. Hopefully, they will send out more interviews after the MSPE is out...

i am clearly on the random punishment schedule. learned helplessness in 3, 2, 1......
lets just say the alumni fund won't be getting a check this year.

You went to UNC undergrad and they didn't give you an interview?

UNC rejection, first one that really hurt. 10/28/20011

Washington Hospital Center . . . I was kind of surprised by this. I didn't think it was that competitive.

UNC rejection.

Would prefer if places did send out the rejection email just so you can scratch stuff off your list and plan accordingly for the future.

Hi Docksv, was this Washu or Uwashington?
I got an invite from washu but not u washington even though i know they sent out ivs today.

i think both are supposed to be top tier programs.

congrats on the ones you have so far

Washington Hospital Center is in Washington DC... it's a community program that's affiliated with Georgetown. It's got nothing to do with Uwash or WashU.

Oh thanks for the clarification. Appreciate it.

heres a silly question, but one that results from being on a rejection streak...

if you applied to a multiple number of tracks within a residency program such as categorical, primary care, and IM-geriatrics and you receive a rejection for an interview does that apply to all the tracks? or do you receive a rejection for each track separately?

im pessimistic on this, but would like confirmation...

AHHH 😡

You should get a rejection from each track. They are technically different programs.

Ucla rejection via snail mail. This one hurts 🙁
