:xf: For you guys! We had our White Coat today, and orientation has been very busy but I thought it was really good. There were a LOT of presentations but most of them were 30 minutes or less, so they were short and sweet. They also had really nice events for us every night (except for today).

About these "first batches", does anyone know if for those of us that completed apps really early and don't end up getting an invite in the first batch, is it still possible for us to get invites in the batches that go out in August/Sept, or are we likely going to be considered again much later in the cycle? Thanks!
 
Personally, I sent in my completed secondary on July 21st and got my interview invite on October 1st. I interviewed in late October and got accepted the day before Thanksgiving. So yeah, don't sweat it if you don't hear from them in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for sharing that tidbit. That was sort of the impression I got and this is going to be a long process blahblahblah, but I appreciate the kind reminder. 🙂

Congrats to those who got interviews!! I would love to get one from Temple (grew up 30 minutes away).
 
Congrats! When were you guys complete?

I submitted my secondary 7/18 and got the complete email on 7/25. Hopefully, I will hear something soon.
 
I submitted the secondary the day that it was made available, and they got my letters a few days later (6/30). I didn't get a complete e-mail.
 
I got an interview invite today as well!

Does anyone know if we are able to stay with medical students while we are there? Or if there is a hotel close by that's not super expensive?
 
You won't want to stay at any hotel close to campus. There are some in center city I know they recommend but I'm local so I didn't use them personally. It's a very easy subway ride up the Broad Street line to the campus. And yeah, there is the student host option, too.

Temple's campus (both the main and the health science ones) are in North Philadelphia. It's a bad part of town. Temple proper has done a lot in the last few years especially to expand its influence and there are a few blocks around campus of shopping and food and whatnot for the students but the health science campus' reach isn't as broad. The Temple police force does a very good job of keeping the campus itself secure, but it gets shady once you go a few blocks in any direction.

I think the hotels downtown that they recommend may offer a deal for people that mention Temple, but I might be making that up. Even if they don't, I would still stay down in center city and take the train up (if you get accepted and decide to come here, it's very likely you'll wind up living there anyway), or stay with a student host.
 
Does Anyone know when the Jefferson invites will be out? I would love to get both Jeff/Temple done at the same time, but I dont want to wait too long to schedule the Temple interview.

Jefferson has been inviting for a while now. Check your status page, as many people report that their status's reflect their future interviews but not many have received an official email yet.

Well mine has said "interview to be scheduled" for a while, but I meant the actual date invitation....

I'm hoping to hear some love from Temple...my brother-in-law is a current med-student in Temple, and he raves about it.

I submitted my app the day after it was made available...I hope more invites are on their way!

Hey does Temple start their clinical rotations in their first two years of medical school?

They do as part of our Doctoring class. Doctoring meets on Monday from 1-3, then we are divided into 7 colleges that meet again at another time during the week (Monday from 3-5, or Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday either from 1-3 or 3-5). We are all assigned a physician preceptor (I think most of them are PCPs, but not all of them) within our college as well, a few students per physician, and I believe they are supposed to serve as a mentor.

This coming week we are going over to the hospital to meet with a patient, but it's just to talk with them about their experiences in the hospital. I also know by the end of September and by Thanksgiving, we are supposed to have two different shadowing experiences, but they don't have to be with our preceptor if we'd like to shadow a different specialty. They will help us set it up, though. We will see standardized patients a few times this year, but I forget when we start actually taking histories from actual patients... might be second year.

Clinical rotations start in mid-May at the beginning of third year, right after everyone has taken Step 1.

I'm only a week in but I hope that helps. 🙂

Does anyone know the number of applicants that interview here and how many get acceptances? I let a friend borrow my MSAR and I'm interviewing here in a month so I want to know my odds.
 
They actually increased the class by around 30 people this year, but I believe the interviewed number was still around 1000. Slightly better odds for you!
 
Is this school receptive to in the area emails? I have a jeff interview and would like to kill two birds with one stone...
 
So, Temple is one of my top schools and I put a ton of work into my secondary. I read it over several times and found no typos; however, I referred to the school as "TUSOM" in my essays and just realized today (after I submitted it) that Temple refers to itself as "TUSM". I'm trying to not be neurotic, but I was wondering if you guys think they're going to read "TUSOM" as offensive and careless, and if so, what should I do?

Got an interview invite! Submitted on 7/8.

The phone number they gave me to call to set up the interview date isn't working. Did anyone else have this problem?
 
hi, so temple is one of my top schools, and i think i submitted my secondary on 7/5, and that was one of my first secondary essay because temple was one of my top choice.

when i now look back, my essay is BAD and suck-y because i guess i didn't know how to write secondary essays back then, and i'm scared that it might ruin my chance of getting in. (i wrote like 2 paragraphs for why temple essay. and they weren't related to specific programs/things about temple lol....) do you think it's a bad idea to send an email if i can send "additional letters" (more specific essay of why i'm interested in temple) at this point? (and to show my interest?)

i want to go to temple so badly and i dont know what i was thinking back then! time to take secondaries more seriously because i also missed deadline for other school already....!
