Jimmer: Great question. Since they only accept 10% out of state maybe they only interview 10% of that ? no idea. My guess is since elpaso interviews twice a week their size is about10-15. Smaller compared to the schools that do weekly(UTMB).

Completed secondary 07/22, got an interview offer 07/28. I am actually surprised because I rushed this secondary to work on the out-of-state ones and my response to the hometown question was mostly negative stuff

I am a bit worried because I wasn't expecting any interview offers until mid August or around that time. I Haven't prepared for questions or bought a suit and this interview is on the 12th.

I just got my interview offer this morning (8/1) for and I took the 8/12 date too.

for anyone who is wondering, my tmdsas application was transmitted 6/22 and my secondary for tech was completed 6/23 or so.

As for number of interviewees per interview day it varies greatly depending on the day. Last year we had a few HUGE days and a few very small days. We are implementing the 2x per week interview days for the month of August to cut down on size in the later interview dates and increase our early interview invites. After this month we'll be back to Fridays only, though.

Well...minus the "free" parts...they aren't free, they are hidden in your tuition. 🙂 But still - great facilities and low tuition and fees compared to many med schools.

Loved loved loved Tech today. Every student, faculty, MD, person said the reason they chose to go/be there was because of the people, cooperative environment and friendliness of Lubbock in general. Thought that was awesome. The students and ambassadors walked us to every interview location thankfully (there's NO organization to the numbering of rooms in the HSC lol) and were just awesome overall- friendly, talkative, hilarious, and answered any question we had. It was obvious that everyone there truly loves being there.

Some other things I loved were:
-TONS of international and abroad opportunities like mission trips, Spanish immersion courses and 4th year electives
-The rec center and leisure pool
-friendly, tight-knit students
-cooperative atmosphere, no class ranking
-interviews were very laid-back
-like Jimmer said above, and nearly every student stressed it today too, there is pretty much a club for anything you're interested in
-half-day schedules and great board scores
-they specifically mentioned things like intramurals and sports since many of their students take part in it and make teams

Just my thoughts from the day. I would go here in a heartbeat.

I wouldnt think so. They interview all the way until December so I would assume anything up to around late September or so there would be no difference

Congrats! Definitely go to the social if you can. Probably 3/4 of my interview group was there last week and it made the day really easy-going and fun since we all became acquainted the night before. The students that run it were also really cool and give lots of good insight to the school.

overall I was pretty impressed by the school, interviews varied depending on the interviewer, but all the admission staff and students were super friendly and seemed legitimately happy and not stressed out.

Everyone (22 people) got a question that was like "if a patient is offended by something you post on facebook, what would you do".

other than that be prepared to talk about your motivation for medicine, where you see yourself in 10-15 years, and be ready to talk in-depth about all your healthcare and research. Also be ready to navigate the labyrinth that is the ttuhsc college of medicine (although the med students will basically walk you to your room).

Also of general interest: Dr Peck the Associate Dean of admissions presented TTUHSC's admissions criteria to all of us during the interview day. No real surprises, but it was just nice to hear it directly from an admissions person. It goes as follows

50% is "cognitive factors", which are GPA and MCAT. GPA is split between science, non-science, and if applicable, culmulative (which includes post-bacc), MCAT is generally looked at together. Writing section carries almost no weight. She did not tell us how anything is weighed against anything else within the 50%.

50% "non-cognitive factors", which are the personal statement, healthcare activities (to show an understanding of medicine), extra-circulars (to show stress management), rec letters, interviews (which are evaluated on communication and maturity), and motivation. "Motivation" was a bit weird because she basically meant non-healthcare volunteering to show that you are a caring person and to get a sense of who you are. I dunno why it was called "motivation". She again did not mention how these were weighed against each other. The only thing that stands out is that research is not included in this. When asked, Dr. Peck said research is basically viewed as a "cherry on top" and is not held against applicants who do not have it.

I wonder if every interview day gets a consistent "staple" question. When I was there it seemed that everyone got a question about dealing with noncompliant patients and how to act lol

ended earlier for me. it takes 15 min to get there. tech has a van that can take you to the airport. security line is 5 min max. its a small airport.
