Nice! Man that's coming up quick!
Thanks guys! And yeah, extremely short notice lol. I could only choose between the 5th and 10th so it wasn't much of an option.

Did everyone get an email saying that their application was received? I don't have one from Lubbock or El Paso...
Been discussed. Lubbock no. El Paso you should. When did you submit
hmm I'm pretty sure I got an email from Lubbock last year...I guess I already have a Merlin account so they didn't email me like TCOM. I transmitted on 6/13. Heard from everyone except UTH, lubbock, and El Paso. I know UTH doesn't send out any emails.
Apparently not this time around. I didnt get an email but still got an invite?
El paso should have emailed you ? hmm?
Completed secondary 07/22, got an interview offer 07/28. I am actually surprised because I rushed this secondary to work on the out-of-state ones and my response to the hometown question was mostly negative stuff
I am a bit worried because I wasn't expecting any interview offers until mid August or around that time. I Haven't prepared for questions or bought a suit and this interview is on the 12th.
Good luck to all applying here!

Interview invite earlier this afternoon!! So excited, love TTU and the med school in Lubbock. Chose Aug. 5th.
Lubbock tomorrow, interview wednesday- ill post my general impressions of the interview and med school environment wed night- good luck everyone!
Hope your interviews go great!!Good luck to you both!!
As for number of interviewees per interview day it varies greatly depending on the day. Last year we had a few HUGE days and a few very small days. We are implementing the 2x per week interview days for the month of August to cut down on size in the later interview dates and increase our early interview invites. After this month we'll be back to Fridays only, though.

Texas Tech is fantastic!
1. Students are super friendly
2. interviews are low stress (well ... )
3. interviewers did not have our MCAT or GPA before they interviewed us
4. most of the students I talked to were involved in research
5. not cutthroat
6. international opportunities like the Nicaragua trip
7. MMSA accepts everyone 👍
8. Clubs & Activities: students are super involved in clubs and extracurriculars, free entrance to all athletic events, the rec center is huge - 6 basketball courts, swimming pools, lazy river (yes, really) and its free for med students, intramural sports combined with the undergrads at tech
9. faculty are really involved with students and help them with research, clubs, funding, new programs
10. Med student host gave a huge insight to the med school, and even took me out for dinner the night before interviews
note: don't be discouraged when your plane to lubbock lands in the middle of a cotton field.
#1 Reason to pick this school: Student environment
If you have any questions before your interview feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to answer
Now im super excited for my interview here! cant wait. Best post i read todayTexas Tech is fantastic!

does anyone know if it's a big deal to choose a later interview date even if offered one that's sooner (eg, if 8/17, 8/19, and 8/24 dates were offered and one took the 8/24 date, is it really a big deal?) i know it's good to interview as soon as possible, but there's a huge difference in cost..plus it's only a week later..
thanks!

Got an interview invite a week ago and picked the 24th of August! So pumped for my first interview this season!!! I love Lubbock; it's just two hours north of my hometown, so this would be sweet! 🙂
Anyone else going to be there on the 24th? I read about the coffee meet and greet the night before (on the 23rd for me) and it seems pretty chill... can anyone who's interviewed already comment on going to it?

I'm interviewing on the 12th and am going. Unlike most other med schools, the coffee and food is free!!
I'l be there on the 12th as well. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the coffee thing on Thursday evening. Let me know how it goes on Friday perhaps.
Yea sure. I am sure it will be chill. These interview groups are apparently really small (13?) so it will definitely be a very different experience.
I did. I called and asked for a Sept date due to workhas anyone asked for dates different from the options that they gave you. I received an interview invite today and although it would be POSSIBLE to go to one of the dates, it would be extremely difficult/expensive. I just don't want to get pushed to the end of interview season or be looked down upon as it seems like a great school and am very thankful to receive an interview!
Thanks

okay great to know! I'm guessing they were accommodating about your request?
thank you 🙂
Also got invite today. Submitted secondary way back in May. In-state. Have same choices as poster before me.
just got back from texas tech lubbock interview.
overall I was pretty impressed by the school, interviews varied depending on the interviewer, but all the admission staff and students were super friendly and seemed legitimately happy and not stressed out.
Everyone (22 people) got a question that was like "if a patient is offended by something you post on facebook, what would you do".
other than that be prepared to talk about your motivation for medicine, where you see yourself in 10-15 years, and be ready to talk in-depth about all your healthcare and research. Also be ready to navigate the labyrinth that is the ttuhsc college of medicine (although the med students will basically walk you to your room).
Feel free to message me if anyone has any questions.
Also of general interest: Dr Peck the Associate Dean of admissions presented TTUHSC's admissions criteria to all of us during the interview day. No real surprises, but it was just nice to hear it directly from an admissions person. It goes as follows
50% is "cognitive factors", which are GPA and MCAT. GPA is split between science, non-science, and if applicable, culmulative (which includes post-bacc), MCAT is generally looked at together. Writing section carries almost no weight. She did not tell us how anything is weighed against anything else within the 50%.
50% "non-cognitive factors", which are the personal statement, healthcare activities (to show an understanding of medicine), extra-circulars (to show stress management), rec letters, interviews (which are evaluated on communication and maturity), and motivation. "Motivation" was a bit weird because she basically meant non-healthcare volunteering to show that you are a caring person and to get a sense of who you are. I dunno why it was called "motivation". She again did not mention how these were weighed against each other. The only thing that stands out is that research is not included in this. When asked, Dr. Peck said research is basically viewed as a "cherry on top" and is not held against applicants who do not have it.
good luck to everyone with an interview coming up!
