For those of you who already interviewed, does the interview day really end at 4:45 PM?

The latest flight I can get out of Lubbock is 5:35 PM so I might have to stay an extra night...

The last 45 minutes is a student panel. I also had to fly out pretty close to the end. Usually, they have students that will give people rides to the airport if they need. The Lubbock airport is literally 5 gates, so it's not like security takes any time.

381 OOS Applicants, 46 interviewed and 10 accepted last year so that's a little over 2 %

ended earlier for me. it takes 15 min to get there. tech has a van that can take you to the airport. security line is 5 min max. its a small airport.
Thanks for the info, guys. I bought my ticket for 5:35 PM

BTW, in case anyone is thinking about rescheduling, I talked to the admissions office about it. At the end of this month (August) they will stop doing Wednesday and Friday interviews and only have Friday interview dates. They aren't doing interviews on Sep. 2 or the Friday after Thanksgiving, but other than that they have interviews every Friday until the end of their interview season.

so has anyone ever called the school to ask about their status? I had no idea they could actually tell you the status. Mine is still under evaluation. Anyone in the same boat?

So far I've had two dreams that I had an interview at Texas Tech. They were extremely detailed too. This must be a sign. I wonder how well my dream will match up with the actual thing. (Probably not much) Texas Tech make my dreams come true!! 😀

Is anybody going to the coffee social tomorrow night before interviews?

I just got an email from Tech saying that my secondary isn't in their system. However, I have a green check in Merlin? I finished my secondary in May and submitted... so this is coming out of the blue..

Just got the same email but I was complete in July. I emailed them back immediately, will keep you posted on what they say 🙂

have you tried calling tech? they are very helpful and will tell you what status you're in.

Unfortunately, I saw the email too late in the evening and being a Friday I couldn't get a hold of anyone in the admissions department when I did call. I'll try to call them on Monday.

Just called the admissions office. That email was sent out in error to those of us that have completed. So nothing to worry about we are being evaluated.

Got a "secondary complete" email. My secondary was complete like over two months ago though.

Don't worry; I just got the complete e-mail today and I interviewed there last week . You were probably already complete a while back.

Oh I'm not worried. I'm past that. Transmitted June 10 with one interview invite, I'm starting to think of ways to improve for next cycle.

same here man. lets collaborate!

I guess I could retake my mcat... But I don't think it's low enough to be holding me back. Maybe texas just doesn't care about musicians. Maybe they are unsure about my commitment. Maybe my PS was too different... Too out there. I don't know.

Somebody will say "yo it's only august, relax, you will get more, I didn't get any interviews until October!" ... Yeah but most people who say that didn't submit until September.

lol well at least you got that one. I haven't gotten anything yet and I submitted in early June, but honestly, I'm not worried about it right now, a little depressed, but not worried. Come the end of september I might be singing a different tune but I still feel pretty optimistic about getting some invites this cycle. I feel like I have a lot to offer any medical school and call me an unrelenting optimist, but I still feel very strongly I'll get my chance to show that.

All that said, I hear ya Piano, but what makes it worse is coming to SDN and seeing all the people who are getting invites, many getting multiple, and knowing I haven't gotten even one yet. Just my $0.02, maybe it would help you a bit to not come here and check em out so often lol. I do it like once a week or so and even that seems like too much right now. But here is the good news, there is still all of September, October, November, and a lot of December so relax, grab a bottle of Jim Bean, practice a little Mozart, and be positive!

I submitted 2 weeks after apps came out the year I applied and didn't interview at Tech until November. It can be random sometimes. Stay calm (easier said than done, yes?)...:luck:

I don't think your MCAT is a problem or weakness at all. Your score is really balanced. I think you'll be fine. Having that first interview invite is the best and they will keep rolling in. Know that you're a unique applicant and many schools want that.

yea dude i got that same email and i have already completed my secondary and interviewed. I think they just sent that email out to everyone regardless cause of some glitch last week i think a couple people mentioned on this thread.

i literally felt my blood pressure rise when I saw the email from Tech. But alas, it was a secondary complete email. Poop.

Got an interview invite a week ago and picked the 24th of August! So pumped for my first interview this season!!! I love Lubbock; it's just two hours north of my hometown, so this would be sweet! 🙂

Anyone else going to be there on the 24th? I read about the coffee meet and greet the night before (on the 23rd for me) and it seems pretty chill... can anyone who's interviewed already comment on going to it?

I am interviewing on the 24th (TOMORROW!) as well 😀

Finally heard back from Texas Tech. I didn't expect to be invited, but I'm interviewing on 9/30! 🙂

Interview invite 🙂 anyone else interviewing on sept 16th?

Got some email from Tech about a parking spot...

Why would I need a parking spot without an interview?

Thanks guys 🙂 Now it's just a question of driving (10 hours) vs flying ($250). Neither of those are really appealing.

Hah! I drove from Houston. It was an adventure. There were dust storms, giant expanses of windmills, 85-90 mph traffic stretches, being diverted by police through a guy's field cause the road was blocked, and ridiculous road flooding due to the first rain lubbock had in weeks apparently.

and my hosts power went out cause of that same storm, but i guess that would have happened even if I were flying...

good luck on your interview!

Hahaha, I'll be driving from Houston too.. Google maps says 10 hours, but maybe if I floor it, I could shorten the time to 8-9? That sounds totally like rural Texas though. lol thanks! 🙂

Advice for those driving from Houston:

Take 290 to Hwy 6 (through College Station and Waco) to I-20 just east of Abilene, take I-20 through Abilene til you see the turn off for Hwy 84 to Lubbock (just after Sweetwater).

MUCH prettier/more entertaining drive than I-45 to I-20. Stop for a bite to eat at the Koffee Kup in Hico. Some of the best burgers and pies in the state. Also, you'll pass through Dublin, famous for its Dr. Pepper.

The Hwy 6 drive is actually kind of enjoyable, and takes the same amount of time as I-45.

Wow, this is awesome advice. Thank you! 🙂

Hey nysw, when was your application complete? I am really hoping I get an interview from here, but I completed everything really early and am still waiting...

Are you really driving? 9hrs is pretty crazy...but the latest flight outta there is like 415. Don't know which is worse...that or staying an extra night...

I just sent in my secondary last night and woke up to an interview invite this morning! I'm excited; this is the first interview I've gotten so far.

I go to school at Tech, but am from Houston. So no, I won't be driving for the interview haha. But I've made the round-trip drive probably a dozen times or so, and it's really not all that bad. You'll probably save yourself a good chunk of money by driving, especially if you get good gas mileage.

Agree. I am in school here now as well, but have made the drive from Houston to here and back many, many times. It's long, but it's not that bad. If you hate driving or can't be entertained by music/podcasts you might have a hard time...it's not fun or exciting (is any drive that long fun or exciting lol??), but it's not unbearable. If it saved me $150 I'd do it for sure lol. 🙂

Received an interview invite today! Lubbock, in about 30 days you and I can be friends.

Yes.

The earliest option I had yesterday was gone today, so I had to take an end of September date. Is that really late for Texas interviews?

no what you said was you just finished the secondary and got an invite the next day. thats crazy. what were your stats?

can anyone suggest a source that provides more information on Tech (curriculum, volunteer, research, etc)? I've already read the MSAR and looked at the school's website, including their catalog. I was hoping to get my hands on something that resembles A&M's "information for applicants" packet. Thanks!
