hey guys,

I applied to Tulane because I was interested in it. I took a look at the USNEWS report, and realized that Tulane is not rank. Is there a reason why it isn't?

Oh, you're one of THOSE people that care about the ranking of the school you attend?

1. Don't apply to schools based on ranking...
2. I don't think Tulane provides the necessary data to US News for them to provide a ranking
3. Tulane probably wouldn't be ranked very high, anyway (~#80 for total NIH funding)
4. If they're ranked below #100, then US News doesn't publish the ranking

It's number 2, the dean stopped giving the info a few years ago. The last time we were ranked was when I was applying and we were around 50th (I'm a third year now). Since that time, the average stats of incoming students has gone up every year and Tulane reported it had it's largest NIH funding total ever last year. We also are in the process of renovating our main downtown research building, opening up a new cancer research center, and are working w/ a biotech company that just built it's flagship location across from the hospital. A new state of the art VA is being built right now down the street and will be filled with tulane residents. There are going to be plenty of research and clinical training opportunities there as well. Research was hurt post katrina, but it is coming back very strong.

There we go! Thanks for the info. That was my guess but I didn't have time to adequately research it

Submitted: 7/28 Complete: 8/22

Now all I can do is hope that I survive the Tulanian massacre!

Thanks highfive! This info is insightful. While I'm not obsessed with rank, I WAS surprised that a well-known name like Tulane (at least in the Southeast) was completely unranked by US News.

Does anyone know what kind of efforts Tulane is still providing in terms of assistance with Katrina destruction? I've done some work in NOLA myself and am just wondering if Tulane has any public health initiatives, community partnerships, etc...

Edit: Just added Tulane to AMCAS!

How long are people taking to get complete? I'm seeing 2-3 weeks.

I submitted mine on June 27. I have still yet to obtain any complete email going on 2 months later. I wonder if they are waiting on my new MCAT scores? I just emailed them to see if they might know. All the rejections are making me nervous.

I got my complete email 8/1/11. Anyone heard back from that date yet?

Man, I've been complete since 7/11, did not get the rejection, and still haven't heard anything. I know there are many ppl from 7/11 and beyond receiving interviews, so I hope it doesn't mean this is another "hold" :luck:

I know its early, but anyone interviewing on 10/10 and interested in splitting a hotel for the weekend?

I got the elusive Interview Invite!!

(Prints Tulane's e-mail and runs around town as if he just found the Golden Ticket...)

Congrats Mikami, but to be honest, it doesn't come as a surprise that you got an interview from Tulane 😎 You're rocking so far 👍

Thanks. I hope that this is your last cycle!

You know what they say about the third try!!

It is the Charm~ Yes, I do hope that this is the last, and it might be regardless of the outcome 😳
But I really went all in this year, applying to 35 schools and also about to submit some DO schools, so hoping for good luck.
Good luck to you Mikami, but you're such an impressive candidate that I believe interview is a formality for you 😀

wow, 9283 applied OOS and 342 interviewed; everyone that received an II is incredibly lucky!!!!!

🙂 I can't wait to visit NOLA. They must have a pretty high acceptance rate so our chances are looking up.

where'd you find that data?

I believe that's from AAMC's MSAR data. It's something like $10 or $15 to get access to that data for every US med school if I remember correctly. It's also got info about % of students with different types of qualifications like volunteering and research experiences. I've found that focusing on statistics like those can get really agonizing.

Well at least I have now learned why I was not marked complete. Apparently if you have yourself listed as going to retake the MCAT, they will not mark you as complete until you do. I will not be marked completed at Tulane until Aug 30 at the earliest and I sent back their secondary in the end of June.

I can't wait to interview here. I'm going to dream about gumbo and beignets tonight.

7/11 survivor ---> 8/25 interview invite 🙂

Hi All,

I really apologize if this has already been covered. How long after you submitted and were verified on AMCAS did it take to receive your secondary for Tulane? A day, a week, a month, etc?

Thanks!

Secondary submitted!

I am getting a little creeped out. I keep seeing the same people in each thread!

It took me a little over a week.

Hey Wyvernrider, thanks for writing! I guess it's been just about one week for me, so I'll sit tight. Thanks again.

AXED!

I felt the wrath of the Tulane Rejection Monster a couple of hours ago. Complete 8/3.

MCAT: low 30s
GPA >3.6

To those feeling the burn: hang in there, your time will come. Best wishes to those who are still waiting to hear back!

same. complete 8/3, rejected this morning Best of luck to everyone else!

This axe thing is really freaking me out :/ here's to hoping that we do not suffer the wrath of Tulane in a few days.

I was completed 8/3. No email yet so I'm guessing I survived the massacre, or does it take a few days for them to get through all of the applications?

How do you know if you are complete? do they send you a confirmation email?
