A senior member of an ad com interviews a nontraditional medical school applicant and the give-and-take appears to be going well. The interview was supposed to last 30 minutes, but the interviewer brings it to a close after 20 with the statement, "Well, Jim, you are an unusual applicant and XYZMS is an unusual medical school."

I'm dying to find out what, if anything, the interviewer meant by the early termination and those enigmatic words.

If this was at Tulane, there's an interviewer who is notorious for short interviews. And Tulane seems to like non-trad applicants, so I wouldn't worry. To me, that statement suggests they think you'd be a good fit.
You'll save yourself a lot of anxiety if you don't dwell on this though.
Might also be that this person has seen a lot of interviewees and sometimes misses when looking for things to close on.

No word yet, I wonder if I had mistaken the date of the last adcom meeting

Been complete since late September and I'm still in limbo. I contacted them a month ago and they said that my application is still under review. Not sure what to think at this point. 😕

Called again today for a status update and am still under review--complete 10/24. I really hope they aren't stringing me along for an eventual rejection! I was so optimistic since Tulane seems to reject people right off the bat if they're going to at all, but now I'm beginning to lose hope that I'll get an interview.

Same boat. Complete on 10/25 with no further word. Will probably call tomorrow (would be my first call to Tulane inquiring about status). I'm in elsewhere but still sitting on the no-contact hook at 16 schools. A lot less nervous now that I'm in somewhere...but would still love to know something from these schools.

So, I interviewed last year, got wait listed. Was nervous ab not getting another invite so I called today. And? Re applicants don't have to interview again! Who woulda knew. And I was just ab to give up and join the professional eating tour.

Do they do pre-interview rejections?

I heard NOTHING.

At least read one page on this thread before posting to every school-specific page.

Sorry, but I don't have that sort of time to sit here and read threads to find what I'm looking for, and I didn't ask for -every- school and not even every school I've applied to.

I was hoping another, more well-informed, friendly SDNer would help me out and tell me. I didn't realize it was an offensive question so my apologies.

I just got an interview invite today...even though I emailed them that I was withdrawing my application about 2 months ago.

For those still waiting though, I received a complete email on 10/24.

Apology accepted. I'll give you a hint: the answer to your question is somewhere on this page -- hopefully you have time (which is less than required for you last post) to find it! :luck:

Boo rejected pre-interview.

Probably one of the most depressing rejections I've read.

Has anyone who interviewed Jan 6 heard anything from tulane yet? if not, does anyone know when we should expect to hear back?

+1, I'm tempted to call but I'm hoping that we are in next week's committee review. It seems like they are behind in reviewing people (ie acceptances were given out this week to interviewees from mid-december)

Should I expect a response from my email confirming my spot in the class? What's the next thing I should be receiving?

I got a reply a few days later. Haven't received anything else except an email inviting me to apply for the MD/MPH program.

Interviewed in early December here and others have been accepted who interviewed on that same date or later. Wondering whats up... hoping that's not foreboding the worst...

Has anyone been rejected post-interview? I don't remember reading it on any of the posts.

Technically you can be rejected, but I think pretty much everyone who doesn't get accepted gets "acceptance range" which is basically waitlist.

Does anyone know if the committee met this week?

I interviewed the 12th as well, I still haven't heard yet. Apparently there was some mix-up/glitch on our date and one other in December where some of the interviewers' evaluations did not get processed correctly, so it's delayed our files going to the committee for consideration.

I hate waiting as well. I'm guessing that in the next week or so our files will get reviewed.

Can anyone comment on research done here? I realize Tulane is not ranked and I'm not sure the exact reason for this (although I'm not too concerned with rank). But I thought rank generally reflected research opportunities available.

Thanks!

Because the school didn't release their NIH grant money, or something like that. It's not that there's no research, they just didn't tell US News.

Accepted! Just got the email. So excited, this is my first acceptance. I really loved it there.

Same thing happened to me as well. Waitlisted last year, and now they say I'm on the waitlist again this year without giving me an interview. Pretty weird how they do things.

Is there a fb group yet? And, is there a second look weekend?

The admissions office said they probably wouldn't have a 2nd look due to a general lack of interest over the years. Soo let's show some interest lol!

Parisian and staxMD - congrats!

what were your stats if you don't mind me asking? I called this morning, I interviewed on 12/6. They told me that my application had been reviewed and that I should hear from them in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed!

Could any Tulane med students comment on why they chose Tulane? I'm really struggling deciding between Tulane and my state school. I love New Orleans and think it would be amazing living there. However, it is hard to overlook the price difference even though I really want to. Mainly I would love to hear the positives as well as any negatives concerning the school itself. Any comments from current applicants who plan on matriculating are welcome, too. Thanks!

Ghah. Frustrated. Mid-December interviewee here and still waiting!!!

Edit: Acceptance Range. Not happy.

I interviewed on 1/9/12 and just received notice of "Acceptance Range." Realistically, how many people are in this group and how many do they take every year?

I'm exasperated by this whole process and I'm not keen to invest time in pushing my application if this is a waitlist from which at most five people will be accepted.

I'm sure a lot more than five students are selected from the "acceptance range'. Between now and residency completion, you have a long road ahead of you. If you're exasperated now......

Not OK! I was accepted in November and couldn't wait to go back to NOLA to see the school with the pressure off. I'm still planning on visiting in the spring, whether there's a formal Second Look or not. We may just have to coordinate a group visit ourselves...

I'm so down for a coordinated group effort
