I am inclined to believe that a lot of schools fill their class (give out enough acceptances) by Thanksgiving... (that probably explains breakfast for accepted students at end of this month)

I dont know about NJMS but I have heard from people who are familiar with the admissions office from other schools that by end of November they have given out majority of their acceptances !!

I had my interview on 10/17 and I'm becoming so anxious to know! If I understand correctly, the only way you find out about acceptance is a phone call on the weekend? Do they ever send out emails instead?

Very unlikely. Dean Heinrich tries very hard to call you.

I don't think so. I got the call Friday morning.

Usually it's been between Saturday and Monday. Maybe he wanted to get the calls out earlier this weekend because everyone's been waiting so patiently! 😀

dlouis - me neither 😀
neuroengineer - yes i got it yesterday 11/4. interviewed 9/16.

Has anyone been accepted since Friday? I interviewed Oct 6th and today is my birthday. I thought I would hear this weekend, if I were accepted. Would have made the best birthday present ever. This is my top choice!

Anyway, anyone accepted Saturday or today? I wonder if they are behind due to the bad weather in NJ...

I am not currently in the state (but am a resident), but my friends in NJ tell me power has been out for the past week due to inclement weather. I don't know how things are in Newark, because they are on the west side. Thought maybe people on the ADCOM could have trouble getting to work. It was just a thought. I realize this is probably unlikely, but thought the weather in NJ could be worth considering. I don't know if Newark lost power. Hope that clarifies my thought.

does NJMS have three categories: rejected, alternate, or accepted or is there also a high priority alternate/ wait list besides the normal waitlist?

In years past there has been a priority waistlist and a regular waitlist. I am not sure when the priority waistlist designation is made.

as you can see from my join date / # of posts I am a NEW member at SDN

I was wondering if I can enable notifications / updates such that I get an email or whatever when someone posts on this NJMS thread ?

You have to go into "edit options" and find the part about subscriptions and make sure you have subscriptions enabled. As far as I know, threads get added to your subscriptions once you post on that thread. And you have to post AFTER subscriptions are enabled for it to show up.

Follow YSPharm's directions to ensure you have subscriptions enabled. Afterwards, when on this thread, click "thread options" near the top of the page, and then "subscribe to this thread". You receive one email per week with updates to threads to which you are subscribed - not per post unfortunately.

Oh hey, cool. Never noticed that. Thanks! 🙂 Are you sure though that it's one email per week? I have my subscription options set to one email a day, and there's also the option for instant email notification.

Edit: Also when you go to subscribed threads, you can see how often you get notifications and customize how often you want the email notification for each thread. As well as the normal stuff like deleting threads you don't want subscriptions to.

Thanks for that info 🙂 Never knew you could vary all those settings, I suppose I never looked deep enough 😛

For those of you have interview already, did the issue of "why njms" come up? How did you respond? Thanks! 🙂

Does anyone know the actual RSVP deadline for the breakfast? Because my email that I got last week says to RSVP no later than "tomorrow, Tuesday, November 23rd at noon." 😕

Yea they definitely asked that. I talked about how its an inner city school which means huge patient diversity. Also the hospital is level 1 trauma center so you get to see a large amount of cases. I also liked that the hospital is attached right to the medical school. They also asked me why I would choose to go there over RWJMS which I though was a little annoying. Hope that helps a little

Yes it did. And expect to get asked why NJMS. In fact, for every med school you interview for, expect to get asked why you want to go there.

As a general way of preparing for that question, I would definitely spend some time going through the NJMS site. Pick out things that are specific to the school that are attractive to you and that are qualities you would want in a med school. These are things you can bring up. Some things you can mention at any med school interview are location, various aspects of the curriculum, mission statements, class set-up (small groups vs. lectures), and grading system (P/F, no rank, etc).

Another way to approach it is if you have a good idea of what you want to do as a doctor. If you have specific future goals in mind, you can look through the site and find ways that the school can help you reach that goal. For instance, I'm interested in cancer research, and that happens to be one of NJMS's areas of excellence.

A great source of information is if you know someone who goes to the school. Get in touch with them and find out what they enjoy about the school.

In the end, just remember that whatever you say does not have to be ONLY available at NJMS. But it should be specific and of course accurate. You are not expected to know everything about the school either. Show that you are genuinely interested in the school and have done the research to convey that.

And here I've gone and written an essay...😳

Oh gosh...I would have hated to get asked why NJMS over RWJMS. That sucks! 👎

thank you guys!!! It always amazes me how helpful and gracious medical students are you guys are awesome! 🙂

That question is awful! I was actually NOT asked "why njms" or even "why medical school" at this interview 🙂

That sounds like a silly interview. But great for you!

I'm not sure what the deadline is - that was definately a typo in the email. I RSVP'd on Monday without any issues.

Since it's buried a couple pages back, here's the link for any accepted students who want to join the facebook group for the NJMS class of 2016

Accepted MD/PhD! Got the call from Dr. Heinrich earlier this evening 🙂

Good luck everyone! Hope to see you next year!

Hey guys! Post-interview, is the decision based more on the interview quality than your stats? I saw this question asked before but didnt see an answer.

Also, I only just interviewed (11/8), does that hurt my chances?

I felt like I had a poor interview (10/19) so I'm hoping it's a combination of interview and stats. I've heard that they have a meet and greet around thanksgiving (probably after) for accepted students so I bet most of their class is picked by winter break. I think you'll be okay.

I applied to NJMS (IS) late July and haven't heard anything from them since. Does anyone know if NJMS is one of the schools that wait until later to reject you? reading through the posts I get a feeling that that's what they do.

Just got the call from Dean Heinrich!! Soooo excited! I had 2 interviews, one in mid September and one October 10th!

Does Dean Heinrich leave a voice mail if you don't pick up? Sorry, I'm a little to anxious about this.
