Rejection letter in mail today pre-secondary. Primary verified late September.

I just got an email from Dean Zic assuring me that my application is still under active review and reminding me that they are making admissions decisions through March.

I did too. Is that code for hold/waitlist?

Ditto on the "active review" email. I don't remember hearing about this at the interview day... didn't they say it would be more like accept, waitlist, reject? If it is a waitlist, I wish they would use the word so we would know...

So... what does it mean if you haven't received any email post interview 😕

So did I. I know that in past years, they sent waitlist notifications via mail. I would interpret this as better than being waitlisted (since active consideration suggests to me that we could be accepted at any time...or I guess waitlisted/rejected at any time), but maybe that's just wishful thinking 😎

I got the same email. It's not a waitlist. It means what it says. We are still under active review. Waitlist means you're app has been reviewed and now your only hope is if people drop their spots. Active review means they haven't made a decision for you yet, but they will continue to look at it..

I'm hoping it's not. :scared:

In past years, they didn't wait to tell people that they were waitlisted.

So I interviewed on the same day as you, but I haven't received any email. Not sure what that means. This school is definitely a reach for me, so I'm actually leaning towards no e-mail as being a bad sign. I guess we will see, there's no way to know. Its kinda sad, but admissions has definitely turned me into a "glass half empty" person lol.

That is what I want to know... Maybe they only send it to you if you interviewed during the period from which they have already accepted people (Sept. 16th) and they haven't decided on you yet.

Whoops, this is flawed since some of the people that received the email interviewed during the week after that.

I got the email this morning too. I interviewed just over 8 weeks ago, which is just over the 6-8 weeks they told us it takes to make a decision. So my guess is they sent the emails to people who interviewed more than 8 weeks ago so that we don't have nervous breakdowns every time we check the mail.

Ah I guess I should have read this before posting. There goes my theory.

Got the email as well. Interviewed on 9/27. I'd say it's a waitlist (I know it sounds pessimistic).

I interviewed in late August, but I don't have any email. This could be good news, or it could mean my waitlist letter is in the mail.

MmmmMmm. I interviewed in mid Sept and I don't have an email either...I wish things are a bit more clear!

Maybe that's because you are accepted and they are waiting to call you on Sunday instead of sending out a "waitlist" email. 🙂

I think they shouldn't wait until Sundays. Why prolong it? 🙂

To not to break their routine of calling people on Sunday night? To build up the emotional tension so that they could hear the outburst of cry on the other end of the phone?

Probably this.

Nope. I interviewed earlier than that and I didn't receive the email. Evidently they split us into two groups, and only time will tell which one is better off. Until then, keep refreshing, folks.

Wish I hadn't read all this. For the record I didn't get the email and I interviewed the same day as Ixz. Now I am all stressed out again lol.

Here's the full email if anyone who didn't receive it is interested:

Dear Cinclus,
We hope you enjoyed your interview day at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. We want to assure you that your application is still under active review. We plan to make admissions decisions this season through March 2012 so please be patient. Until then, we encourage you to keep us informed via email of any new experiences or achievements.
Thank you for your continued interest in Vanderbilt.
Sincerely, Dr. Zic

Now I tend to believe if you haven't received an email, it means a definite decision has been made on your application, which I tend to believe is a positive one considering they don't reject people this early.

I got a hint earlier this week that one of my interviewers hadn't been on campus since the day of my interview. So she probably didn't report to the committee until sometime this week, which means my application is not reviewed yet. Just a hypothesis...

I hope you're right! My god it would be amazing to be accepted.

Don't you think we are all being a little neurotic about this? My guess is that the email means just what it says--that we are still in line to be reviewed or currently under review. I took the email as reassurance that our application was not lost and that the process is moving along, not a wait list. But hey, I could be wrong.

That does make sense, although the people who have received the letter appear to be very strong candidates. 😉

Interviewing on Nov 14th, student hosting was unable to find me a host 8(

anyone else going on that date? or any suggestions for finding a host? I don't really have money to get a hotel...

Look through the student interest groups that you would be interested in. Email them and ask if someone can host you. That way you see what the students that you would be with are like (it's what I did and my hosts were amazing, plus they reassured me on the school. I highly recommend it).

Neurotic yes 🙂 but we have some reason to be. If it was as simple as you stated, then I ask why did only some people get it and others not? Unless there is a distinction between the two groups.

Just checked my mail and went through that oh-so-depressing routine of seeing and opening a thin envelope from Vandy. It said my file was reviewed and that I was not accepted, but that it would be reviewed later in the season (i.e. waitlist). I did not get an e-mail, so I would say that no e-mail means some kind of decision has been made.

Too bad... Oh well, this complicates things... I just figured not to care anymore. But I do hope you would get in later this year!

I wish they'd just email us, even for the waitlist. But I guess for those who haven't gotten an email, it's decision time, for better or worse.

Also received the "active review" email. Looks like I'm joining a lot of super qualified candidates in post-interview purgatory!

Thank you! You've been to some awesome schools, too. WashU, for example, is giving me the cold shoulder 🙁 Good luck, and hopefully we'll both hear good news!

I just checked my mail and got the same letter indicating that I've been waitlisted. Well that's better than rejection right? Haha. Gotta keep our heads high 😀 We're pre-meds and that mean we got some crazy determination no matter how hard it gets. For others, I also didn't get an email so I think if you've interviewed and been waiting for an answer and still no active review email, then I think there is a decision made. Good luck to you all!

Does anyone know how often students get an invitation later in the cycle?

Sorry to hear that, fellow 9/20'er. I'm sure you'll get into some place awesome though, since the group of interviewees was rather awesome that day.

Received email on Friday, but got the call from Dean Zic. Accepted!!!
