I do hope we hear some good news; I love Vandy. I actually interviewed on 9/20, so it fortunately hasn't been since August. When did you interview, again?

9/23 so we are actually in almost the exact situation.

oh my guy's name also started with a P, but I don't think he was the same guy. Unfortunately this happens, the interviewers only write an report and they do further review, maybe not even the same committee. I'm sorry this happened man!

Just saw this and I gotta ask, aren't they the same thing? Or is the waitlist letter says WAITLIST in the actual content? I received a letter around 8 weeks after my interview that stated "while we are not able to offer you an immediate invitation at this time, we will be reconsidering your app throughout the admissions season". I just sort of took this as a waitlist letter since I didn't get an active review email.

I believe there is a difference in that with the reconsideration letter you may be accepted during any review, or waitlisted, and the waitlist letter means you're going to have to wait until they start pulling people off the waitlist to fill the class. In the first case they haven't decided about you one way or the other, the second, you've got a lot more waiting ahead.
At least this is the case with other schools that have both waitlist and active review.

This is the letter I received. I assumed it implied waitlist as well, but who knows..
 
Don't think so. It will be the 8 weeks with no communication with the school in two days for me.
 
If there is like 5 of us, one of us should call and post the admissions office's response.
 
In my opinion, it should be someone who has waited the longest.
Calling will not change the decision; its always better to know.
 
I called the admission office a little while back. For me its been around 8 months since my interview. The admissions staff was really polite informing me they were a little behind schedule. They said they have mailed a large number of letters ( continue to review, waitlist ) a couple of days ago.

I haven't received anything, not even an email.
Maybe no news is good news?
 
it's been 15 weeks of waiting for me..

I called for a possible interview change and they said they are behind on a lot of the applications. Probably the reason for the long wait times.

Pretty sure that this whole active review email is new this year (though someone please correct me if I'm wrong). With that said, I think most people received it some time after the 8 week mark that upper bounds Vandy's loosely promised wait time.

Also, not EVERYONE received the active review e-mail. Your post makes it sound like it's an expected inevitability.

my fault, didn't mean to imply it was inevitable. I was just wondering when to expect communications, if any.

Sorry, re-read my post and realized it sounds kind of snarky. Didn't mean it that way, but I do hope I answered your question.

And yeah, communication may or may not come. The unfortunate nature of med school applications. But I hope you hear good news soon, and good luck!
 
Is it best to fly into Nashville for interviews or some other nearby airport? Are there student hosts as well?

I flew into Nashville - you can take a shuttle to the medical campus (or nearby hotel) directly from there (roundtrip is $20 - way better than taxi).

There are student hosts! A lot of people my interview day stayed with them. I got a host, but ended up getting a hotel so I could stay longer. The students seemed to enjoy hanging out with the applicants
 
I'm a bit curious as to what criteria Vanderbilt uses to invite applicants for an interview. And is the secondary examined before the interview or afterwards?

I believe Vanderbilt invites applicants for interviews based on the competitiveness of their AMCAS application alone (MCAT, grades, leadership, research, etc.). They are looking for academic ability and leadership potential. As for the secondary, I think it is reviewed around or after the time of your interview. My interviewer seemed to have merely skimmed my AMCAS app before we met. Letters of recommendation are read after your interview.

My invite was mailed out only a few days after I submitted my application, which suggests to me that they don't spend too much time going over your AMCAS application before sending out the invite. However, my interviewer had clearly read through my application very closely, and actually quoted back parts of my personal statement and activity descriptions to me. I don't your interviewers have access to the secondary.

ETA: That's not to say that someone in admissions hasn't read your secondary by your interview date. When I interviewed, one of the admissions people told me she had already read all of our secondary essays, for scholarship eligibility purposes.
 
does vandy like updates post interview? especially in the form of rec letters?

I was planning on sending one. I called the office and they said yes, they take updates. Not sure if that includes additional letters though.

I assume this meant before you were accepted but just in case I'm wondering is there any purpose in sending update letters after you've been accepted
