Thanks! Complete the 2nd week of August.
I received confirmation that my secondary was received on 8/15, but haven't heard anything since. Aren't we supposed to get a complete email? If anyone could mention how long it took to be complete, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

No they do not send out complete emails, only the conformation as you received it.

so i can safelty assume i'm rejected if i haven't gotten the secondary at this point after submitting primary on 6/1/11?
I decided to add this school today (I know super late, Didn't realize how interesting the curriculum was.) But i was wondering if its like already too late to get screened for secondaries?
Blazer, its not too late to apply. There are certainly distinct advantages to applying early (that applies to most everywhere, no pun intended), but you are not past any deadlines or anything that I know of. Good luck!

i emailed them about an incorrect address on my application an entire month ago -- they haven't responded. should i be worried about this? i mean...do they even send anything by snail maiL?
i guess i could call them -- anyone have good experiences with that?
alternatively, should i email one of the adcoms instead?
feel free to give them a call... the staff here at VTC are very nice people and in my experience, extremely helpful!

thoughts about the first prompt: are we supposed to only discuss ONE experience (as implied by "an experience") or can we talk about multiple experiences? from their really long intro, i got the feeling we could talk about multiple ones (esp. this paragraph: "As you complete the required essay, personal experiences you might consider writing about should portray: medical motivation, community involvement, scholastic achievement, leadership, research, or lab experience. Specific personal experiences could include: volunteer service, Peace Corps, mission work, business experience, military service, team sports, research experience, scholarly activity, entrepreneurship, artistic endeavors, or political involvement.")
what do you guys think ? / what'd you do?

Hi all,
I'm also a member of the class of 2014. I can answer some questions that have popped up that are still unanswered. VTC has interviews once a month until March, but in the past year they held an extra interview. They do not accept much more than 42 students at a time. Because our curriculum is set up to have exactly that number, VTC doesn't take the chance of over-accepting. This is why the waitlist moves so much at the end of the interview season (so be patient if you are waitlisted). This curriculum is very research heavy; we are expected to produce a publishable quality paper at the end of four years. You have a lot of time to work on your project though and can go at your own pace. There are a lot of really great opportunities research-wise in the area. As for a cool rotation, I know that VTC is working on an option in Africa, which is being solidified this year. I don't have many details on it though, sorry.
If you have any questions, you can PM me
Good Luck Everyone!

No advice but I do have the same question. I'm thinking about using two experiences that developed similar strengths...
Man, I'm still waiting to hear anything regarding a secondary from them since my MCAT scores were released last week.
Then, I get a reminder that I have LOR that is still outstanding. Would that hold up any decisions?

How many of you guys who got interviews did the special evaluation things from your letter writers? Thanks!

can we get a bump for us? ^_^
I attended the interview last Saturday and it was awesome!! Roanoke is a great city and the VTC facilities are outstanding. I'll admit I was a bit nervous about the MMI but it was actually pretty fun. Just relax and you'll do fine!
You can tell the students, faculty, and community at VTC all share the same energy and excitement. Crossing my fingers that I get a call in October

Had my interview on Saturday as well. The buildings are all fresh and new, the faculty are great, and I got the feeling that everybody was really dedicated to providing for the students, making sure that the new classes got off the ground as smoothly as possible.
I actually thought the MMI was pretty fun! Just relax and enjoy yourself. Hope to hear back soon!! 🙂

hey all... I had the opportunity to ask some of the med students here about what they remembered from their essays. From what it looks like, we did both. Some of us focused on one experience, others such as myself, talked about several experiences and how they shaped our decisions (granted, none of us were sure we got the same essay prompt as you received). Anyways, the best advice we all felt we could bestow to this year's applicant pool is to take the essay seriously, be honest and sincere (even if it means writing about 1 or several experiences), and it wouldn't hurt to be mindful of the VTCSOM's mission statement while you are penning your thoughts. =)
So what are the chances of receiving an interview after receiving a secondary invite? Would they focus more on the secondary app than the primary app if you received a secondary? Very interested in this school and would be very grateful for an interview. Would appreciate any information and advice on the secondary. Thanks!
Rejected today, pre-secondary

Does an email saying that they might give you a secondary later on in the cycle basically a rejection?

when were you guys complete/turned in your secondary?
Greetings from VTC:
Next week the Admissions office of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine will contact all applicants selected in our October round of acceptances.
As you may recall from our briefings during MMI weekend, VTC has a small class size of 42 students, and our goal for our October acceptances was to select no more than 25 percent of next year's class. This is so the VTC admissions committee can give full consideration to those applicants who will interview at our fall and winter MMI interview weekends, and whose records have not yet been reviewed by the committee.
If you do not receive a phone call and e-mail from our office October 19-21, your application record moves over to our active-status pool, and your application package will again be fully considered by the admissions committee for our December round of acceptances.
Please call us if you have any questions. Thank you for your interest in Virginia Tech Carilion.
