Got the acceptance call today! 🙂
I got an email from VTech this week urging me to complete the secondary application. It said that based on my AMCAS, I am a "very competitive applicant". Did anyone else get this email? I'm trying to figure out if this is just a scheme to get more secondary fees or if it actually has any meaning.

I applied here, and have a high MCAT and extensive research experience. Still no interview, probably because of my low GPA. I want to send an update letter/LOI updating them on my new publications etc.. what is the email you would use to send an update to them? I couldn't find anything on their website besides [email protected]..
Thanks.
Thanks.

Expletive, did you submit a secondary to them? Also, when were you complete for VTC? Just curious, thanks!

Invite as well for the 19th! How are most people getting to Roanoke, and where do most people stay?

I'm driving in, and they told us about a hotel in our email. According to last year's thread, the hotel is nice and the location of the get-together the night before

Did those of you who received interview invites for November submit the PPI evaluations? How many people who got interviews submitted those and how many didn't?
Thanks!

I didn't either. One of my recommenders took over half a year to get my letter out 😱Did those of you who received interview invites for November submit the PPI evaluations? How many people who got interviews submitted those and how many didn't?
Thanks!
so I didn't want to go through that again just to get those PPI evaluations.Did those of you who received interview invites for November submit the PPI evaluations? How many people who got interviews submitted those and how many didn't?

Invited for the 19th as well!!!
And I did not submit PPI evaluations.
Who all is in Roanoke tonight for the MMI tomorrow? I'm staying at the Cambria. Anybody interested in grabbing a drink or something after the social tonight?
i'm just curious about the applicants who got interviews here...did you guys have significant research experience in undergrad?
yes, in undergrad, grad and other...

Not really, I actually just started doing research this year, and I'm a non-trad. So don't give up if you don't have as much. I think VTC wants a well-rounded class as much as anywhere else, so if your proverbial "bumper sticker" says something different than research, it's all good... the point is to HAVE a "bumper sticker." 😉

lots here! I spent two years doing research in the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the last two years doing research at the CDC.
However, when I interviewed, I told the 18min interviewer, "oh dear lord no more research please" 🙂
EDIT: RETRACTED. while I had some research, I have since been reminded that a certain individual close to me had much more, and she was much more humble about it. <3
but I would agree, i think VTC likes seeing research, but they also just like bringing in unique people! an intensive research background is not necessary for admission

I agree with the desire for the "well-rounded" applicant (which I think isn't much different than what most schools want). However, for a program that integrates research hours 3 times a week into its curriculum, in addition to the majority of its existing students with prior research experience... I am inclined to believe they like research experience.

Hey 11/19 interviewees, anybody remember the dates they send out acceptances?
Hey 11/19 interviewees, anybody remember the dates they send out acceptances?
At the 8/27 interview they told us they'll have acceptance rounds in mid december and mid march but they werent specific about the dates. Hoping for some good news in a couple weeks

I had my interview on 8/27 - it was the first interview date, and got the acceptance call 10/21.
And as for research, I have some and I mentioned it, but if I remember correctly, no one focused on it. Honestly, the whole interview day, it was really clear that while your credentials landed you the interview itself, by that point, they were more interested in getting to know you, your personal characteristics, and what kind of doctor you would be.
Good luck everyone!!!

Does anybody know how many interviews are left? I'm still very interested in this school, but I haven't heard a peep.

Rejected 12/05/2011
is that pre-interview?

Three or four. One a month until march or april, depending how many spots they have to fill. They said they offer 25% acceptances in October, 50% in December, and the remaining 25% of acceptances in the spring. But who knows they may have another one in May if a lot of people choose another acceptance over VTC. Don't be scared! Best of luck!

He/she mentioned it was a pre-interview rejection in the post above.
I'm really sorry to hear that OP. Best of luck elsewhere.
Praying now...
The story: http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/08/shots-reported-on-virginia-tech-campus/. How horrible!
Last year they released their December batch of acceptances on the 15th. I wonder if it'll be the same this year or if we'll get an email indicating when exactly it will be.
good to know... they seem pretty systematic, so i'm sure if they emailed last year... that they'll do the same this year.
best of luck everyone!
Yeeps, I'm nervous guys! Let's make a pact to post up here as soon as one of us hears something today!
"Greetings from VTC:
Next week the Admissions office of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine will contact all applicants selected in our December round of acceptances.
As you may recall from our briefings during MMI weekend, VTC has a small class size of 42 students, and our goal for our December acceptances was to select no more than 50 percent of next years class. This is so the VTC admissions committee can give full consideration to those applicants who will interview at our winter MMI interview weekends, and whose records have not yet been reviewed by the committee.
If you do not receive a phone call and e-mail from our office December 21-23, your application record moves over to our active-status pool, and your application package will again be fully considered by the admissions committee for our March 2012 round of acceptances.
Please call us if you have any questions. Thank you for your interest in Virginia Tech Carilion.
