Hahaha I'm surprised more people haven't made fun of my name yet! Grats on your acceptance btw! I'm still creeping on the panic thread for now.

I interviewed early November and I have the feeling we might not hear back till it gets really close to christmas.

For those who have received the acceptance package:

If we mail back the letter intending to matriculate, are we bound by the decision, or can we still change our minds before May? I'm not sure whether we only send the letter in once we decide, or if we need to send it just to hold our spot.

Thanks!!!

Is Mt. Sinai still giving out II invites?

I think you are not bound by the decision but you need to send it to hold your spot. I am not 100% sure though, so do not take my word for it.

I'm 99.9% sure that it's just to hold your spot. All of the schools that I've been accepted to have had me "accept" a spot in their class in one way or another, so I'm pretty sure these are not binding decisions (or at least I hope not!)

According to AMCAS guidelines, you can hold multiple spots until May 15, then you can only hold 1.

So no, you're not bound.

Although it's good practice to not hold spots or give up spots you're holding at certain schools as soon as you start narrowing your list to exclude schools that you will definitely not attend, for people who are still waiting to hear back! 😉

That said, I don't advocate Mount Sinai (rather, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai?! haha we're still getting over how that sounds) being one of them!

Also, AFAIK from what we're told, it seems like the vast majority of the money will go towards research, with the creation of special research professorships to entice other professors to come to Sinai, as well as a ton of money going into genomics research (which Sinai hopes to become a leader in the next few years). I don't know whether any of this will affect finaid, which is often sponsored by scholarship funds established by different donors (3 different donors are funding my scholarship right now).

Also (also), I think you guys might be the first class to use the new first year auditorium, which we are all really jealous about.

What is this new first year auditorium called?

If there are pictures of this place inside/outside. It would be very nice to see.

I think construction is beginning right after class ends during the summer, and will be ready by the time class starts in August.

Is there anywhere online where you can check your status?

I just got one yesterday. I was complete in August. There's certainly still hope!

There never was a complete email was there? It just said application submitted or something like that?

Seeing this made me kind of freak out.

While the money won't go directly to FinAid it will free up money that can either go directly to FinAid or be used to help woo donors to donate for FinAid as well as increase the prestige of the school which always attracts donations.

In other words, the Icahn donation will certainly lead to increased FinAid in some capacity even though it's not directly.

Anyone know when the next round of acceptances will be coming out?

Not exactly sure, but we were told before the holidays. So, I think we will hear back from the admissions office anytime between now and the end of next week.

My parents received the my acceptance package, so I haven't seen it yet.

They (my parents) told me I had to send an email to confirm that I received the acceptance information. Is there something else that I'm supposed to send out as well? I'm just checking because I don't know how thorough they were in examining it.

I think you are also supposed to send in a letter of acceptance but they don't really give you a deadline for this. The envelope and signature form should have been included in this package.

There is a deadline for the email response though, according to the letter. It was Dec. 3rd for me.

And in the acceptance acknowledgment, it said that you need to confirm you accept the offer first over the telephone and then with the actual acceptance acknowledgment sent to them.

Wait, I dont remember the part of the acceptance acknowledgement that said we had to accept the offer over the telephone. I just mailed the letter they gave us back to them. Also, anybody know the time-frame during which we need to take the drug test included in the acceptance packet? I don't really see the point in taking the time to travel to a testing center for a school that I might not be matriculating at.

The last sentence of the acceptance acknowledgment stated: "I agree to promptly and immediately communicate this information to you by telephone followed by written communication." But I am guessing if you sent the letter that should be enough.

I actually have the same question in regards to the drug test because I was rushing to take it but then I saw somewhere that the drug test for last year's class was due sometime in August. So I am not sure by when we should take that. Also by when should we sent transcripts in?

I emailed the address mentioned in the acceptance packet and asked if I needed to do anything else to accept my acceptance -- they said nothing else was necessary (didn't have to send in the letter too).

I still haven't received an invite, I guess I'm not getting one at all.

I called the admissions office last week and they said next round of decisions goes out in 2 weeks, so I'm guessing we'll hear sometime next week?

@Soma

I literally cannot WAIT to hear back from here!! I'm not expecting an acceptance but would be so happy (and it would be my first so far). Waitlist after waitlist isn't making me smile to much lately 😕

Thanks for posting that you actually spoke to them and heard when we might be notified, that puts my mind at ease (slightly)

Why are you not expecting an acceptance? Hopefully your jimmies don't get rustled and you get some good news! :xf:

rejected 🙁 interviewed 10/23

Just got an interview invite. Anyone know how many people the school interviews, and what my chances would be at this point? The interview is for mid January.

mind sharing stats? approx completion date?

A year ago, I was told it was near impossible to get admitted to medical school as an international student. Some even said to go for a Phd instead. Now, I am holding three acceptances at reasonably good schools including mount Sinai. NEVER GIVE UP AND ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE IF SOMETHING IS POSSIBLE OR NOT.

Whoa, TheSilentone, did the second batch of acceptances already come out today..??
