I just called the Admissions Office, and they told me that the waitlist has moved. So far they have accepted two students off of the list. I know I can't be the only one anxiously refreshing this page, so I thought that I'd let all of the SDN lurkers know. Good luck to all of you. I still have my fingers crossed, although I'd be lying if didn't say I was growing more pessimistic each day, haha.

Thanks! My hopes have dwindled as well now....

I'm not sure I agree with your pessimistic conclusion. Sinai generally matriculates between 1/3-1/2 of their class off the alternate list and, despite what they said prior to May 15, I highly doubt it will be less than 1/4 this year. I'm guessing that Sinai is waiting to see how hard they are hit by the initial waitlist wave and then reassessing their waitlist. No need for panic yet, especially if you have a high quality med school option.

Hey Almost, where did you get that data? Hopefully you are correct!

It's anecdotal, but I know members of all four classes at Sinai who tell me those numbers are probably close (not everyone advertises that they got in off the waitlist). There's obviously going to be variability year to year, but barring a drastic change in admissions policy it is unlikely that Sinai landed at two under it's class size post May 15--the penalty for oversubscribing a class is way too high.

Yeah, I would say ~1/3 is pretty accurate.

Unless mistoffelees is someone I know, I'd call this double confirmation. If only 2 have been accepted off the alternate list, with no guarantee that they matriculate, this means bulk alternate list movement is likely imminent. It would be nice if adcoms felt a little more urgency about this process though.

I think 1/3 is a bit high (if I had to guess, 20-25%) but it's definitely more than 2.

when I spoke with the deans during revisit weekend, i did recall hearing that sinai expects much less movement this year due to the whole Icahn and NIH publicity.

That sounds like good news for alternate list people. I assumed they had based that prediction on the other acceptances that people holding spots had. Given the Sinai community hasn't fully embraced the Icahn name (so I've been told by many), it's hard to imagine prospective students this year are going to make vastly different decisions than their predecessors because of the change. It probably wasn't a bad idea to plan for the possibility of increased yield though.

I'm confused. If less waitlist movement is predicted, how is that good for alternates?

Because their prediction is based primarily on a potentially misguided hubris rather than an unbiased assessment of head-to-head yield.

On a totally different note...

Hey guys, I'm applying for c/o 2018 but I'm not taking my MCAT till 28th August (I'm spending the entire summer doing research in Africa; taking it as soon as I get back). How badly will this affect my chances of getting into sinai? Do they send out secondaries without an MCAT score...does any school do this for that matter?

The sooner you get everything in, the better your chances are at any school with rolling admissions.

I don't know if they send out secondaries without an MCAT score on file. I would think that they probably would, but they wouldn't offer you an interview until they see your score.

Its really difficult to predict any of this because the process is kind of a crapshoot but I think the general consensus is that your chances improve with an earlier application. taking the MCAT at the end of august is late if I am not mistaken.

almost2017, you are misunderstanding this. Less movement definitely means less use of the waitlist. I am not saying that there will or will not be less movement, but if the school thinks there will be less movement that means they think they will be accepting fewer kids from the waitlist.

I think they are anticipating more accepted students will choose sinai because of the positive publicity from the Icahn donation and I honestly don't know what NIH refers to in this case. Yes, Sinai has extremely strong NIH funding per researcher but I don't think anything major/out of the ordinary happened this year (especially not anything on par with a $150 million dollar private donation like the Icahn business).

Zello,

it will definitely hurt. We are rolling and I do not believe you can get a secondary before your AMCAS is processed which will not happen without an MCAT score. Keep in mind you won't even get a score until late September - a time at which many interviews have already happened.

Registered to say I just got off the waitlist. I interviewed here back in December and didn't get invited to second look or anything so this was a complete surprise. I had lost all hope for this cycle (no acceptances, 2WL), so for everyone still waiting, don't give up just yet!

Oh no, this was just when I was starting to stop neurotically carrying my phone around to check my email every 20 minutes!

I'm in the same situation that you were. Hopefully i will get good news also

Congratulations! That's one of the best success stories ever.

Same here. I had an interview at AECOM in April and put on HPWL. Got accepted to Sinai after my interview in March. There really is no rhyme or reason to this.

I didn't notice this discussion earlier. I interviewed at Einstein in early December and was rejected by early January, but I'd already gotten into Sinai ~mid-November.

Has anyone gotten their housing offer yet? Is it common for suites to be comprised of a mix of medical students, graduate students, and residents? I'm wondering if there's anyway to have just a suite of 1st years.

Have there been any post interview rejections? Or is the alternate list simply everyone that wasn't accepted post-interview?

got my housing not too long ago.

its a 6br/2ba at Aaron and its a co-ed mix of mostly MS1 kids (if not all..not that great at facebook stalking lol).

you can request to be put with all MS1 if you reach out to housing!

as far as Co-ed, never really been in a similar living situation, but I can't imagine it not being interesting

Did you request Co-ed? I was under the impression they would never just assign someone to a co-ed apartment.

Just FYI - requested a suite with mostly MS1s and was informed by the housing coordinator:

There are plenty of rooms still available (people haven't filled out their housing apps yet I guess?) but they are all single rooms with mixed students, so it will be very difficult to ask for special arrangements (such as being housed with only 1st years or being housed with someone you know, etc) at this point.

For people who hoped this bump was regarding waitlist movement: sorry! But I'm sure there's plenty of movement to come (maybe even from my movement off of another list on my part):xf: . Best of luck!

Just got rejected from alternate list. This was after getting invited to the "high priority" second look.

I got an official rejection last Friday afternoon. Total bummer.

I was on the alternate list and was invited to the re-visit day, which I attended from OOS.

It was a long shot for me, but I am dissappointed.. I interviewed early (2nd week in Sept), did well in my two interviews, sent them a strong letter of interest, was waitlisted, sent them a strong letter of intent, attended their re-vist day (coming from ATL, 200$+ flight), only to get rejected before July came around.

Oh well, good to luck to everyone else!

P.S The rejection letter made it sound like they are in the process of reviewing the waitlist and making some cuts.

I'm sorry to hear that🙁 when was the high priority second look weekend? I haven't heard anything from them since my initial wait list, no high priority nor rejection, seems like i'm in no man's land.
