Submitted! Crossing fingers
Here's hoping!!

Have you, in past years, applied to any other medical school?
Do they really want me to list all 20 or something?
Haha just realized I have a form essay for the "why us" question built by now. All I have to do is copy paste and change names.
No... I think you just answer yes/no. They don't care about the number of or specific schools that you applied to in the past, just that you applied to other medical schools in the past.
Then you have a short section to explain your previous applications.
Explain what specifically? Why I wasn't successful? I would have thought they'd be more direct about it then.

Hmm, how's that working out for you? I was under the impression that the "Why us?" questions were meant to elicit specific answers, tailored to the school. If different schools have different grading systems/programs/lecture styles/locations, etc., how are you getting by with just changing the names?
I had a specific set of things I was looking for when I chose a lot of places, so I just fill in the name/place/thing they have that matched what I wanted.
Anyone having trouble logging in for the first time? I received this email. I guess the "in the future" part means I dont have access yet? Sort of strange.
Yes, I also had trouble logging in. It turns out I had a previous account with the "embark" application system (from a non-medically related app I filled out years ago.) Try typing in your e-mail for your login and press the "forgot password" button. If you're in the same situation I was in, it should e-mail you your old password for logging in, and that old password should work with the Mount Sinai app.
Can anyone provide input as to what a "suggested word cap" is? What word count would you guys consider to be the maximum.
I am sure they have a cap for a reason but if its suggested, do we have some liberty to go over?
I would try and stick to it if it's possible, but I'm sure 20-30 words over would be no big deal at all.
Thanks for the response! I feel the same way and just don't want to seem like I can't follow directions. Hopefully I can stay under the count.
<neuroticism> Man this application process has me on tilt. </neuroticism>
I know the feeling! Almost done with secondaries here and can't wait to spend some time away from my email / laptop.
Good luck! I'm sure it will go well!
Can somebody please post the character limits for the first three prompts?Missed a few, here's the whole list:
Have you previously applied to Mount Sinai School of Medicine?
Have you, in past years, applied to any other medical school?
If yes, please explain.
Were there any gaps in time, post-secondary school, or greater than one month duration, except summer vacations, that are not accounted for anywhere else on your application?
If yes, please explain.
Were there any circumstances which you feel might have adversely affected your academic performance during college?
If yes, please explain.
What makes you unique, someone who will add to the Mount Sinai community?
(Suggested 250 words or less)
Indicate the reasons for your specific interest in Mount Sinai.
(Suggested 200 words or less)
Anyone understand how to properly get our letters matched? I'm confused because it states on the website that letters must be submitted via AMCAS but in the secondary it asks for the email address of the letter writer.
I have individual letters and filled in that section. My supervisor told me they basically sent them an email to "confirm" the fact that they were the legitimate author of your reference letter or something along those lines.
Note for MD and MD/PHD applicants, your letters of recommendation have been received. Embark will upload your AMCAS profile and letters of recommendation.
Please continue to Application Inspector.
this is what i didI was under the impression that this meant I didn't have to fill out the register recommenders page since my letters were coming from AMCAS. I simply continued to the next step...

I believe you're absolutely right. Lol how many other ways are there to interpret that statement. It was written in red too sheesh....

Thanks for posting that, I somehow completely missed it before. You saved me a lot of unnecessary confusion.
I'll refrain from asking questions in the future before checking with you to see if they're appropriate. I overlooked something, wasn't the first time of my life and won't be the last.
haha no worries. I was initially very confused too and was waiting for this to come up on SDN 🙂 I even asked random friends "hey, what does this mean to you??" Glad we were all able to figure it out!
haha I totally overlooked that too and kept selectively reading "register reference" and "upload". It's okay I already submitted and you have the option to take the registered references off the list lol (obviously this happens far too often).
So do we register our letter writers? I'm still confused as to what the consensus is lol
there seems to be mixed responses to this in previous years' threads, but when they ask about "gaps in academic record," does this include what i'm doing this upcoming year if i graduated this past may? i did not take any breaks during my college career.
haha so no you don't have to. just move on. I'd imagine this is a relic of their other programs, where the school will officially contact letter writers individually to submit letters.
Anyone receive the application complete confirmation yet? I submitted the day it came out, still haven't heard anything ..
does mount sinai have a max number of letters? or can u only send three?
Just received the confirmation email for my secondary. Submitted 7/29. I check the link to the status page but all I see is my submission date and time and a to do list. Nothing telling me my letters arrived or anything.
Does anybody else get a complete message when they check the status page?
