Does anyone know a good/inexpensive hotel to stay at? I, unfortunately, will be interviewing during the time the students will be on holiday break so student hosting is not an option for me. Thanks!
 
You should still look into student hosting since I know a few of us will be still on campus. I'm not sure how they do hosting but it may still be an option

Student hosting was unavailable for me; I guess they're really busy. I'm staying at Econo Lodge Hershey. They were the cheapest that was within walking distance to campus...
 
Ok great, thanks! I'll check out the Econo Lodge. I was hoping to stay with a student and I did email the student hosting program but whoever emailed me back said that there would most likely not be any students on campus so they wouldn't be able to help me out. Oh well I guess
 
Got acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. I interviewed early september, took more than 2 1/2 months to get a response, so for those waiting, hang in there.

Do they only send via mail? Not email? Also was it thick or thin? I interviewed about a month ago and Im going crazy...

You're going to be waiting for another 4-6 weeks, buddy. I interviewed 10/1 (nine weeks ago) and still haven't heard anything. Calm down, and stop obsessing over envelope sizes.
 
Got an II. Best way to get from Harrisburg to Hershey?
 
"continue to review" letter received yesterday (12/2), dated Nov. 9th. I never knew it took mail that long to reach california from pennsylvania lol

received complete email on oct 31. submitted aug 18
 
Still not marked as complete since August 20.

I'm assuming I've been rejected, or will be shortly.

I got my continue to review snail mail a couple days after I was complete. Not sure why your snail mail took forever. Hopefully we're still in the running! Best of luck goldenbear25!

Just got back. The Econo Lodge is certainly the most affordable and closest to campus, but it's kind of dirty. If you're thinking of taking a taxi the day of the interview, I would try something closer to "downtown" Hershey. I originally thought I would walk to campus for my interview, but after walking there the day before realized that, although it's literally across the street from the Econo Lodge, there is absolutely NO direct route to campus. You have to go through a very circuitous route to walk to the Med School, and it takes a little while to get there. If you are still staying at the Econo, ask the front desk for Dana's phone #. She runs a minivan taxi that charges $8 for a ride directly to the front of the building, regardless of how many people ride with you.

Let me know if you have any other logistical questions, etc. and I'd be happy to share my experiences with you.

thanks for the update! i interviewed mid october and this one was my first interview... so guess the waiting continues...aaah! and CONGRATS! :highfive:

I actually ended up booking a two night stay at the Days Inn because their rate ($49 + tax/night) for med school interviewees is essentially the same as EconoLodge and they offer complimentary airport shuttle service and can drive me to/from the med school. Too bad I couldn't relay this info to you before your interview!

How was the interview day? I hope it went well and thanks again for the help and info!

A park made out of chocolate?!!! Reminds me of that scene in Charlie and the Chocolate factory where Augustus Gloop gets sucked up the tube after falling in.


Unfortunately I have a weak stomach... so me and roller coasters don't usually make such a good pair.

No problem! The interview day was great. The interviews themselves were mosre laid back and relaxing than I could have imagined! It's very conversational. And all of the staff and faculty we met were really nice and helpful. Good luck, and keep us posted on how it goes!
 
I submitted my secondary early october and am not complete yet, is this uncommon?
 
Am I the only one who felt only one of my interviews were conversational? I thought the one interviewer was grilling me hard whereas the MD that interviewed me was extremely laid back and great

Well, you still can go to Chocolate World. It's outside of the park, so you don't have to pay admission to get in. There's a really cool "ride" that takes you through the chocolate-making process, and it's actually one of my favorite things to do there. You also get a piece of chocolate at the end!

i interviewed with an MD and an MD/PhD. Both were quite conversational, although one of them didnt seem to have read up on my application much and was reading it as we were sitting there, looking for questions to ask me and kept asking me "well what can I tell you about penn state?".

I was interviewed by a PA who was grilling me hard. The M.D. was the second and more relaxed interview I felt. Ugh almost 5 weeks

week 9 for me! 😀 and i believe it is week 10 for Doctor Strange

shouldnt be too much longer for us!

Complete today as well (submitted in early September as I posted yesterday). Maybe they read SDN :laugh:


I feel like some schools use a long completion time for applicants they're not interested in and a short completion time for ones they are interested in. Or maybe I'm just being pessimistic.

Complete today.. 1 week shy of 4 months.

I'm going to be checking my mail for my rejection. :-/

They sent the correct rejection letter this time. Ah well, kept me on my toes for a good while.

That sucks guys 🙁 if it makes you feel any better it seems like they are being extremely conservative with their acceptances this year... probably because of the situation last year with overaccepting. That probably means that there will be a lot of WL movement this year! Anyway that my take on it. I'm ~7 wks post interview at this poi t... fully expecting a WL in early Jan haha

agreed... expecting my WL in the mail tomorrow... i wonder how many acceptances were deferred to this year

I thought one of the students who took our group to lunch said five people were deferred but i'm not certain.

Sittin at 4 weeks post interview. It looks like the 6-8 week time frame is delayed. Still holdin hope that santa will deliver my letter!! 🙂

5 weeks now haha. This wait is killing me!! I'm hoping for a very Merry Christmas and a freaking awesome New Year, better than 2012 :scared:

Does anyone know if Penn State is receptive to Pre-Interview Letters of Interest or Update?

I've been on pre-interview hold for ever now.

Unfortunately they are not. I've called multiple times and this is the common response. I wish they were though
 
Sent them a correction email in the middle of October about an error I found on my AMCAS, and got a response today.
Still pending completion 😳
