finally got the secondary this morning 😀 👍

+1 me too. Finally! (drexel, tufts, northwestern. im still waiting on you...)

EDIT: here are the questions

Please indicate the entering first-year class year(s) to which you applied, and (if not indicated in 1b above) explain how your qualifications have changed since your previous application. (No more than 50 words)

If not currently enrolled in a full-time academic program, please summate your activities from the time of graduation from your baccalaureate program through the time of this application, as well as your plans between now and your matriculation to medical school. (Maximum 50 words)

Explain the negative aspects of medicine that you considered in making this career decision. (Maximum 50 words)

Is there a unique aspect of your application that should be considered by the admissions committee? (Maximum 50 words)

Explain why you decided to apply to Penn State College of Medicine. (Maximum 50 words)

50 words.... that's like a sentence or two.....not that I'm complaining 🙂

Received the secondary this morning. The essays are going to be killer! 50 word limits?!?!?!
Well, here goes nothing (and by nothing I mean everything!)

For the prereqs section, do you think I should make a note if AP credits are being used or should I just check off "yes" that I have completed that given requirement?

Applicants may have fulfilled many of the prerequisite requirements listed above by way of Advanced Placement courses. Penn State College of Medicine recognizes advanced placement credits only if they appear as earned credit on an applicant’s college transcript. However, it is also expected that many of the most competitive applicants will have fulfilled advanced course work in those same areas during their baccalaureate years.

I would just click "Yes" given this quote from their own website.

Essays were not as difficult as I thought. I am complete.

Received and submitted. Those fifty words... Jeebus... I tend to be very verbose in my writing, so I really had to budget my words here!

50 words = no where near long enough for me to say what I want to say 😱

No secondary yet. Verified 6/8. Anyone else in the same boat?

Huzzah! One more secondary received and submitted! :soexcited:

Just one more left, and then I start playing the waiting game!

Seven more to go for me. However, one of them I have been sitting on for a while (Duke). I also heard Mayo's is super easy to fill out... but I haven't gotten it yet!

The waiting game sucks, but oh well. It is always nice to wake up to an interview email.

FINALLY, Penn State joins the fun! Submitted secondary just now. Loved this campus and the program at my interview day in the 2011 cycle. I really hope I can a) land another interview, and b) make it past the wait-list this time!

Good luck everyone! :luck:

Mayo doesn't have a secondary.... All you have to do is pay them, and then they will decide if they want to request your LOR's or not (a very hard step to get past with them...) Their admissions committee moves very early in the cycle, so it is definitely not a good idea to wait anymore than you have to, especially because there is absolutely nothing to do from your end but pay....

He hasn't gotten it yet so he's not waiting to submit it, he's waiting to receive it.

👍

Yep. Just waiting. I was verified the first day and I figured they were waiting for my second MCAT scores to come out. I emailed them an update last Friday with the scores. I will wait a few more days and then call them. I don't want to seem neurotic or anything.

Ah, my misunderstanding. Yeah, they were almost certainly waiting for your scores. Best of luck to you!

I was lucky enough to get the LOR request from them fairly early, however, since making them available on AMCAS I haven't heard a peep about an interview. Still hoping...

Is it just me, or is this question badly worded. If I applied last year, do I say I applied for the Class of 2016, or that the first-year class year would be 2013?

I'm taking it as the entering class year. So for example, this cycle is the 2013 entering class

🙁 9 more for me
15 more to go for me 🙁 aaaaaah!!! Just got Penn State though...so now that I've browsed the thread, I'm ready to fill it out haha

good luck everyone!

Super short secondary. Received today and submitted already.

I still haven't received the secondary. Do we know if they are doing it in batches?

Glad to hear it's a short one!

are you guys gonna put your SAT scores and crap? Do you guys usually dothat?

are you guys gonna put your SAT scores and crap? Do you guys usually dothat?

I took the SAT on the 1600 scale and I didn't get over 1500..... so no, I am not putting my scores up 😀

This is absurd. I wrote what I thought was a small paragraph (4 sentences) and it was like 78 words. To get to 50, I'm am literally speaking in dialogue that you would find in See Spot Run.

🙁 9 more for me

Eesh! No fun. If it makes you feel any better, I have 8 done now. Combine that with all of the grad school applications I did this summer due to a waitlist at Penn State last year, and I'm thoroughly done with these sorts of applications!

I stuck my ACT score on there since it was a 30, and my MCAT wasn't as high as I wanted. I had my SAT score, but it was in the 1900s out of 2400, so I didn't bother. My dad and I were talking about something similar (placing GRE scores on the AMCAS app,) and if you put it, it's one more thing that can be judged. So, it's ultimately your call.

I wanted to conjugate stuff like "I am" so badly, but all I could think of was my high school English teachers telling us how informal that would be. I'd say don't get too detailed, they'll ask you about whatever piques their curiousity during the interview, promise. 🙂

50 words is HARD. do you think it's okay to abbreviate Penn State College of Medicine to PSCOM?

not fishing for answers, but i'm kinda stuck on what they mean by the "unique aspect of your application," written in basically two sentences? thoughts?

aaaaaand submitted! 😀 now time to wait....:scared:

Goodluck this year guys. I'll be starting first year in just a bit so let me know if any of you have any questions.

1. I love piano music, choir music, and the fine arts in general. Are there opportunities for musically talented medical students to get involved with music? (Whether it is through the school or outside of the school)

2. What are the major community service opportunities that most medical school students get involved in?

3. Is Medical Spanish available as a course? Me gusta el español.

They obviously know we only have 50 words, I'm sure they could care less if you abbreviate the name or use contractions

apply to miami

I put them just because I actually have them memorized. WR 650 MA 690 CR 660

:-/

I don't know what they hope to do with those scores, though. The MCAT is more important...

My guess is that they want to see how you do on standardized tests.
