This process sucks... If rejection letters are sent now by snail mail, I don`t know what to expect in the future. This thing is so random... unbelievable.
I was accepted via snail mail back in October and just received this e-mail:
March, 2013
Dear Accepted Applicant,
Thank you for considering SUNY Downstate Medical Center. You may have heard that Downstate is restructuring its hospital facilities. They are undergoing consolidation to better provide patient services and to create emerging models of patient-centered care. Even with this consolidation, Downstates clinical training facilities include over thirty affiliated hospitals & facilities in Brooklyn and the New York City metropolitan area. The changes to our facilities will not impact our education and research programs. In fact, our education programs are stronger than ever before.
Collectively, our five colleges and schools offer high-powered programs focused on health education, with degrees ranging from bachelor's to the doctorate level. We attract students who are passionate about the health professions, medicine and science, who want to pursue research and experience hands-on community involvement -- in Brooklyn, possibly the most diverse community in the nation. Our students learn in a friendly environment with facilities that include a modern high tech anatomy lab and an "Information Commons" digital library -- soon to be enhanced with a new academic building providing classrooms to support 21st-century medical curriculum and innovative research.
Our educational strengths are mirrored in our outcomes. Downstate graduates consistently beat national averages on licensure and exam scores. For example, our Accelerated Nursing students who graduated last year achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX (National Council Licensing Exam) as did our Nurse Anesthesia and Physician Assistant graduates, who all achieved pass rates of 100% on their national exams. Our placement levels for all colleges and schools are close to 100 percent three months out from graduation.
Students in our School of Medicine consistently outscore the national average on Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge board exams. This year, over 97% of fourth-year medical students placed into a residency program on the first attempt -- again, above national averages -- with acceptances at major pre-eminent residency programs.
No matter which of our programs you plan to join, we are dedicated to educating the next generation of health professionals and scientists, and our reputation for clinical training is second to none. We are proud of our diversity, emphasis on urban and immigrant health, and camaraderie among students and faculty.
If you have any further questions regarding Downstate, we would be very happy to answer them. We greatly appreciate your interest in applying to Downstate and look forward to you joining us.
Sincerely,

Not sure if you were asking me (about the rejection via snail mail) but this was post interview (interviewed early February)Hi,
Was this pre-interview? If not, when did you interview?

Has anyone who interviewed after 2/26 heard anything back yet? Is anyone who interviewed on 2/26 or before still waiting?
Interviewed 1/30, still waiting haha. But doubt you'll have to wait as long as me.Has anyone who interviewed after 2/26 heard anything back yet? Is anyone who interviewed on 2/26 or before still waiting?
Wow...let me stop complaining then haha. All of this waiting...interviewed in mid-january. haven't received any decisions yet
Was placed on hold after my interview a couple of weeks back. Just got an email from downstate saying:
Thank you for your continued interest in SUNY Downstate. This is to update you
regarding our anticipated timetable to give you a final decision on your admissions status.
We expect to send you a final decision on your status some time during the last two
weeks of May. Please remember to check your AMCAS email address regularly during
this period.
Did anyone else who was put on hold after their interview get this email?
What do you think they mean by "final decision on your admission status"? As in Accept or Reject? Or if we'll be put on the alternate list or not? It seems strange that they'd update us on a very specific time they'll give us a decision - any decision.
got the email as well. interviewed early feb. Placed on hold a week agoWas placed on hold after my interview a couple of weeks back. Just got an email from downstate saying:

Has any accepted student gotten their financial aid package? I'm curious as to what it looks like. I was told I can expect it by end of March but haven't received anything. I called the admissions office, and they said mine was sent out 2 weeks ago! I requested for another copy to be mailed, so hopefully I will get it soon.
I got mine--though it was really confusing haha. I'm OOS but my cost of attendance was calculated based on IS tuition. As a result, the loans they outlined won't cover what I eventually need (especially since the EFC calculated was also really high, and I currently have no money lol)...but since Grad Plus loans cover up to the total COA minus other aid, I figured I'll just be making up the difference with Grad Plus dollars eventually anyway. Figured I clarify that with them when we're closer to May.
Any other students see the same thing? A big long letter with inaccurate numbers? haha
Maybe they think you're IS... sounds like you get to pay the IS tuition rate all 4 years! 😛

At least, this is what their detailed curriculum map says on the bottom of this link, lol

Interviewed 2/28. Just got put on ""Hold for Spring Consideration." Anyone else?
Oy, just got the same letter. Interviewed on 2/19, I wonder if the final decision applies to us as well. This whole thing is getting very stressful...I was under the impression my interview went exceptionally well!

Same here! There is still some slim hope to be accepted from the hold without being put on the waitlist ... (wishful thinking).
The email specifically tells us to not call the office. More stressful waiting until "late spring".
Ahhh Interviewed 2/27 and still nothing! Good sign? Bad sign?
Hey i'm sorry to hear that! are you IS or OOS? and was it email? Trying to gauge when i'm going to hear, interviewed on 3/11. I wonder if they are giving out any straight acceptances anymore at this point..
So far, at least from reading this thread, Downstate hasn't put anyone on the "wait list" aka the "alternate list." They've been accepting, putting students on hold or rejecting them.

Also going to withdraw today...how exactly do we do this? do we email medadmissions? or what?Withdrew my spot today. Good luck to those still waiting to hear back.

Ok all set, officially withdrawn from Downstate! Hope one of you great guys gets a spot here and becomes a wonderful doctor! That's what I did.
I interviewed on 2/25 and haven't heard anything yet.
From what I gather on this thread, the timeline for response from downstate seems to depend more on when your interviewer submits his review of you and when the committee meets next than any rule of x # of weeks. 6-8 weeks rings a bell but it seems some people waited longer. Any thoughts?
what?! have you tried to call the office?10 weeks and still waiting for a post-interview decision😴
10 weeks and still waiting for a post-interview decision😴
Yup, called two weeks ago and they told me that my interviewer didn't turn in his evaluation yet😕 soo I'm just hoping to hear back before the 12 week mark with some good newswhat?! have you tried to call the office?
also, has anyone who interviewed in late january or after gotten an acceptance?
Hahaha now that would be nice😀I interviewed the week after you and haven't heard anything yet either. I like to tell myself that they're trying to figure out my merit scholarship 😀
