Hi guys, I just got accepted off the alternate list this morning. Was so stressed about this. Keep faith! I hope the rest of you get in.
 
Can you please share when you interviewed? Also, did anyone who interviewed in March hear anything?
 
Can anybody tell me what the "Signed Technical Standards" refers to on the checklist? I didn't receive any forms that refers to this..

Also, does anybody know if Student Health Services lets you send in the health forms through email? I tried calling several times, but nobody ever picks up.

You should have gotten the Technical Standards in your Acceptance package. The text is exactly the same as here http://sls.downstate.edu/student_affairs/disabled_students/tech_standards.html; if you dont have it e-mail admissions and ask for a pfd file

E-mail SHS, I tried calling several times and no answer too.

Ditto. My alternate packet was identical to what the alternate email stated saying they wanted us to submit the response form, transcripts, health forms, and a copy of our BLS certification card. The rest of the checklist may be only for those that have already been accepted.

sorry, forgot to quote... i interviewed in mid-march and was accepted off of the hold list a few weeks a go
 
Accepted off the alternate list but withdrew my spot. Hopefully if goes to one of you!
 
Was just offered a spot on the alternate list. 6 days for BLS, Transcripts and Health Forms, yah.

Anyone know chances of acceptance from alternate list? Just starting to look into it...

That is interesting. They sent out alternate e-mails over a week ago. Does that mean they're running out of alternates?
 
The acceptance package indicates you have until the 15th for transcripts. I think the first of August for BLS. (Not sure about this. Have to check.) The health forms should be in ASAP.

I think they are extending it as the time goes....my acceptance package says until July 1st.

Can anyone please confirm or dispel this rumor? I heard from several Downstate alumni that due to the school's progressing financial difficulties its students are being displaced from some rotation sites, including Maimonides and Kings County, by foreign medical graduates. I did not think that troubles with LICH would pose a problem and I am really interested in attending this school as opposed to Buffalo, but I just do not want be left on the sidelines.
 
I'm a member of the medical council, and we frequently interact with deans close to this situation. There have always been foreign medical students alongside us at some rotation sites, so I would not worry about that. The financial difficulties will not impact the student quality of education because the deans will always put us first in making any financial decisions.

I recall students were still taking the BLS course during the week of orientation last year.

Valid point ChrisY2013. I have a friend who graduated from DS recently and he mentioned this being a source of frustration for him. In fact, he wanted a specific rotation at Maimonides which he said he couldn't get because students from foreign schools had displaced him. As far as Buffalo is concerned, my cousin just graduated from UBmed and now he's doing his residency at Wash U and he had NO issues with rotations. =/
 
Nada. Is this list moving at all? Seems pretty slow compared to other years. Wonder how many of us are still in limbo. Has anyone called the office to shed some light on what is likely to happen to us?
 
Did waitlisted applicants receive emails from admissions office about checklist login and password? I never got a login and password to access my checklist (waitlisted end of may).

If you mean alternate list applicants, then yes. But it doesn't seem as if there has been much movement in the past two months...so I think we're all in the same boat at this point haha
 
Just received acceptance call yesterday afternoon. Definitely going. So excited! ^__^

Time to find housing...

Does anyone know when it's the last day for people on the alternate list to hear any news from the school?

According to the Downstate's calendar the orientation was on Aug, 5 and the classes start on Aug, 12. Will they send us official rejections?

I called admissions, and was told we could even be called on the first day of classes. I doubt theyll be sending us official rejections.

I called admissions, and was told we could even be called on the first day of classes. I doubt theyll be sending us official rejections.
