I was put in the acceptance range (wait list). How do I get off this thing and into the class?!?

I know that feel 🙁 Hopefully you and I can get in soon! I sent a strongly worded LOI to admissions right after I found out saying that Tulane was my top choice and I really think I would be a good fit. I think if you show you really want to go there we'll be fine (at least I hope)

I'll send my LOI today. I loved this place and the students and would be ecstatic to go here!

Just interviewed here last week and had a blast! Definitely my top choice. The handout said that last year out of five hundred interviewed, four eighty something were accepted so I have high hopes but after reading this forum I'm getting a little nervous. Is it possible to score well on the interviews but because stats are a little lower than average, score less than stellar overall? Or do they just accept base on interviews alone after this point?

And for those interviewing later on, good luck! I prepared for the typical questions but felt I barely went over them. It was mostly casual conversations, trying to get to know you stuff. I got lucky with all three interviewers because they were all so laid back and creative, so we had something fun to talk about. But others I asked said they had some pretty awkward moments and random questions asked so its the luck of the draw I guess.

I asked about this and they said if you were invited to interview they aren't worried about your stats, they just want to see if you will be a good fit for the school. But then reading through the packet they made it sound like they go back and give you an overall score (including stats) after the interview... So I'm not sure either. I'm hoping to hear back sometime this week, so we'll see what happens. They made it seem like they care more about "the fit" than your stats.

They might be a school that ends up pulling a lot of people off the waitlist... Has anyone been rejected post-interview yet?

Got my letter in the mail the other day, and the wording is really confusing. Does anyone know if the deposit is just to hold your place in the class or if it is non-refundable and binding? I'm deciding between a couple of schools and want to hold my place in Tulane's class but it is very possible that I will not be attending. Anybody have any idea? Thanks!

I was a little unclear on this also. The way I read it was that the confirmation email reserved your place in the class and that the deposit was binding because it mentioned that it indicated your "final decision to attend" or something like that. Also the deposit isn't due until May, right?

Anyone else have thoughts/insight?

Uh oh, I think you're right... I submitted my deposit thinking it was just to hold my place in the class, but it looks like it is actually to confirm you're attending. Whoops... Looks like I have an awkward email to send.

I'm going to call tomorrow and ask. I'll let you all know what they say.

Is that what the term means. I was thoroughly confused when I read that. Hope you get in man,

Thanks! I hope I do too.

Acceptance range means you've been put on the unranked wait list. They say that most movement from the acceptance range occurs between March and May.

Ok, I called this morning and they said the deposit is refundable until May 15th! The letter is just very poorly worded. I would go ahead and submit your deposit if you haven't already.

Anyone know if they once you confirm your interview they send you some kind of email back? I sent my confirmation last week and havent heard anything.

Mine took over a week as well. I'd wait till next week and if you haven't heard anything, email again or call.

Okay great, thanks! I'm glad you called because that is definitely not what I took from the letter haha.😛

Did you get a response from Dr. Beckman when you emailed her to "confirm" your acceptance??

No prob! I wanted to get my $100 back right away if I had made a mistake.

I did not get a response from her. This doesn't surprise me though, as Tulane was very delayed in responding to my interview confirmation email. Hopefully she sends some kind of response eventually!

Edit: Got a response from her last night!

why isn't my application being looked at? I was complete 9/4 and still haven't heard anything 🙁

Complete a few days later, no news here either.

As with most of my apps, I'm not sure if this means they're on the fence about us or they haven't got to us yet.

Holy crap i got a letter this morning that i am being accepted immediately off the wait list! Ahhhh!!

Don't let it get you down. I was complete 7/27 and still haven't heard a peep. I watched others from my date get rejected, then others from that date get IIs, then still more get IIs a few weeks later. I don't know, maybe I'm just low on their priority list? I'm not getting my hopes up. But you still have plenty of time. It's tough to keep waiting when others are already accepted, huh?

Anyone interviewing on Monday and want to explore over the weekend? I'm getting in tomorrow night and want to try to cruise around New Orleans and check things out...could use some company

Whoops my bad, don't know why those numbers didn't stick with me more precisely.

Yeah, I had heard the interview / acceptance ration was high, so I was pretty happy to finally get my hands on this stat. I really like 80% though, it seems like at this stage they try to weed out the ubber-weird applicants. And lets face it, ~20% of premeds are pretty weird haha.
Anywho, interviewed on 10/22 and really loved it. It seems like acceptances have been going out between 1 - 2 weeks after interviewing, so anxiously awaiting an email. Please love me back Tulane.

No news here yet- interviewed in September. I hope I'm not one of those uber weird applicants. 😉
In all seriousness, a lot of people in previous years are put on the acceptance range and later accepted. I really hope I'm not on the "range" but if it happens, it isn't the end of my Tulane hopes.

I'm getting interview invites to places I know I would not want to attend over Tulane but can't turn them down because I haven't heard anything from here. Keeping fingers crossed and also hoping to hear Tulane loves me back soon. It would save me a lot of heartache and $$$.

anyone else going to be stuck in NOLA all week after tomorrow's interview due to Sandy?

Hope you brought your halloween costume! Halloween in the quarter is definitely something you should check out.

Has anyone heard any updates about the new university hospital going up in NOLA? It sounded like it would be completed by early 2015 (right before we would start rotations) but my interviewers didn't seem to know a lot of the details.

Accepted!

In case anyone cares: I submitted my secondary on 7/9, got an interview invite on 9/19, interviewed on 10/19, accepted on 10/26.

My question is, was anyone else a little weirded out by how much those kids seem to party? The first half of the welcome presentation was pictures of wasted medical students, doesn't that seem sort of odd? By the end of the presentation I was starting to think the M2 giving it might have been drunk during the presentation. Don't get me wrong, Tulane is by far my favorite of the schools where I've interviewed and I am almost certainly going to end up there, but I found the emphasis on drinking to be unusual and slightly off-putting.

Also did anyone else notice that the students were way more attractive than usual?? Just wondering 🙂

Congrats on being accepted!

Has anyone who was complete on or around 9/21 heard anything? Still hoping for an interview invite!

I've seen the "work hard, play hard" attitude at other schools, too (UIC, Rush). I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure once we get you a Hurricane in the French Quarter, you'll feel right at home 😀.

And yeah, one of the M2s presenting was definitely good-lookin 👍

Complete 9/19 still no news..... Congratulations to all those who've been accepted! Good luck everyone🙂
