Tulane medical school is known for its service to under-served populations, public health, and global health programs, but are there lots of opportunities for research here? I'm not as interested in research, but I would like the option in case something sparked my interest or I wanted to pursue a competitive residency.

I feel like if I accidentally mostly talked about research during my interview, I would get rejected here, since that is not one of the main focus of Tulane. Thoughts?

Are Tulane students given time off to study for the Step 1?

I think we get done with classes beginning of april of T2, then take the exam in May, so like a month. It's different if you're doing an MD/MPH, though.

So what hotel have people itt stayed at in New Orleans? I have never been to the Big Easy, so I have no idea what is going on and I'm looking for suggestions.

Holiday inn super dome . It is within walking distance (a few blocks) from the interview location. They also give people interviewing at Tulane a special rate if you ask for it.

I would HIGHLY recommend using the hosting program and staying with a current student. The opportunity to ask current students questions about the school/city really helps you answer "why Tulane, why New Orleans" in your interviews. Your answers to these questions are extremely important. This is also why Tulane only interviews on Mondays/Fridays, they want you to spend a weekend here getting to know the city and figure out if its a fit for you.

Well, based on how Tulane is reviewing/rejecting applicants, I thought I had a good chance at an interview when I heard from them...apparently I was wrong. Rejected today and complete 9/13

Well that doesn't exactly help my med school application anxiety. Mind sharing your stats? Sorry for the reject 🙁

Just in case anyone is in the same boat...

It's been 4 weeks since my interview so I emailed admissions and apparently part of the adcom was at a conference so they didn't have their most recent meeting. She said my application had not been reviewed yet but would most likely be at the next meeting. (Hopefully this week and not after Thanksgiving!!! :xf:) I know that some people who interviewed after me have already heard back, so I'm not sure what that means... But anyways, just thought I'd share in case some of you are waiting to hear too 🙂

I was in this situation not long ago. People who interviewed weeks after me heard back and I didn't. I was sure I was put on the waitlist instead I found out I was just accepted. 🙂

That's encouraging--thank you!!

I have been complete since Sept. 11 and no reply yet. Would it be too needy to contact them to ask about my application?

I was complete Sept. 17th and I have already called them several times haha. The people I've talked to were pretty friendly so I wouldn't be afraid of calling.

I got the acceptance email today 🙂!!! I interviewed on 11/12, just a few days ago. I loved Tulane!

Mother of God. Just accepted by email. This school is my top choice and first acceptance.

interviewed Nov 9

Also just accepted! Very excited. Loved the visit. Thanks to the fellow SDNer who gave up their Nov 9 II. Pretty sure I got it and got in 11/16!

For people on the "waiting list" hopefully one of you will hear good news soon because I relinquished my acceptance on Friday. Tulane is a great school, just not the one for me. Good luck all.

Can anyone who's interviewed at Tulane tell me how long it takes to get from the school to the airport via taxi or the airport shuttle bus? I'm trying to figure out what the earliest flight back home I can take is.

Also, what is the weather in New Orleans like in December/January? Thanks!

I had the shuttle pick me up at 3:30, and it took 40-45 minutes to get to the airport since there was a ton of traffic at that time of day.

Interviewing here Dec 3. Where is the best place to ask the shuttle to pick up? Tulane Medical Center or Tulane Medical Housing?

Does anybody know if the lectures are recorded and posted online?

Also, i'm thinking about applying to the MPH program (tropical medicine--woot). Does anyone know how the financial aid is for the summer sessions?

I'm not sure exactly how it works regarding online posting but my student interviewer said that the lectures are recorded so the students can watch, but all you get is the sound and powerpoint. That is you see the powerpoint and the mouse koving as the instructor talks. Its not a video of the lecture.

On a completely unrelated note, i love the love avatar Cookie Monsta.

I was complete 9/17 and I called today. The lady on the phone said not being rejected at this point was a good thing and I should wait maybe a week to hear something. This is basically what I was told a few weeks ago though...

financial aid is available for summer sessions. How much aid you've taken so far that year will determine what kind of loan you are eligible for. There's also scholarships for the MPH tuition for the MD/MPH program that you can apply for.

lectures are recorded and posted online, but if the presenter is using a laser pointer and not the mouse, you'll have no idea what they're pointing to. And sometimes the recording program messes up, but they'll usually redo the lecture and post it, or post last year's lecture.

Accepted. Interviewed a few weeks ago. Mid 3's mid 30's OOS. Good luck to everyone in limbo!

Can anyone comment on Tulane's generosity with respect to need-based aid? This is by far my favorite school but that tuition is intimidating.

I do not think you all need to be too worried considering they usually receive over 10,000 applications. That is a ton of applications to sift through and I'm sure it takes awhile.

Both merit- and need-based scholarships exist at Tulane. Be sure to turn in the Tulane financial aid form, and the school will submit your app to various scholarships you've probably never heard of.

If Tulane is "by far your favorite school," then you are going to have a blast if you come here. I sure am!

Ha Thanks. Accepted yesterday. Interviewed Friday before Thanksgiving. Good Luck Everybody

Wow, I am super impressed by your extracurriculars! Walked from Mexico to Canada?? Lived on a boat for 5 years? That's pretty awesome. When you say you climbed the highest mountain in every state, would that include Monkey Hill in NOLA? :meanie:

But seriously, very cool 😎

Mexico -> Canada via Pacific Crest Trail? I've backpacked a significant portion of that in Oregon. I'm definitely planning on doing Southern Oregon -> Bridge of the Gods next summer.
