I know that Vandy prefers high GPA and MCAT over extracurriculars and uniqueness (comparatively speaking), but does an applicant with amazing extracurriculars coming from a unique background, with a 3.6 GPA and 32 even have a realistic shot here? PS: I have no ties with the university, city, or state, but I have heard very nice things about Vandy, so it is a top choice for me.

Realistically, if you're not URM and disadvantaged with a history of rescuing starving children in Uzbekistan, no. But it does happen. Wouldn't be surprised if a < 3.7 or < 34 screened out most applicants here.

I'm >3.8 >35, no secondary. There's a 0% chance the screen is that high. Harvard just put their secondary out today to many, and I don't believe Vandy is rolling anyways. They also have the most beast secondary out there, so I don't mind it getting delayed 😉

Patience, young one.

I agree with you that the screen can't be that high for Vandy. Don't know why you mention HMS though, Harvard sends everyone secondaries regardless of stats.

I quote:

"1) All applicants who check Harvard Medical School on the AMCAS application are invited to complete a Supplemental Application. We do no screening of any kind between the primary and Supplemental applications. HMS Supplemental applications must be finalized on-line by midnight EST on October 22, 2012. "

I'm not sure what you mean by "non-rolling." They do offer acceptances on a rolling basis.

3.7 or 34 = autoscreened out? No.

3.7 or 34 = autoscreened out? No.

This has to be the case: Seeing that the matriculating average is 3.8 and 3.5, for every 4.0 and 40, there must be a 3.6 and 30, although it's possible that it is an URM with 4.0 and 30 to balance out the poor MCAT, not 3.6 and 30.

though I believe it may have already been stated, I think it is possible Vanderbilt is doing an "initial" screening in the sense that they are currently sending out secondaries only to a certain LizzyM or GPA/MCAT cutoff. If this is the case, then in the upcoming weeks the threshold may be lowered and then a new wave of individuals will be sent the secondary. Just a possible scenario to help calm some fears . . .

I stated my last post was speculation (didn't have access to my MSAR). Now I do.

I referenced Harvard to just say that not everyone has their secondaries out, some are rather slow at it, or may even be doing a 'drop by drop' release in order to test their new systems.

As for the rolling admissions, Vanderbilt starts offering acceptances as early as Mid-October.

The autoscreen is likely either a LizzyM-type score or a GPA/MCAT cutoff. If it's a LizzyM-type score, we can't assume much at all, but if it's not:

Vandy's 10th %ile is a 31 for MCAT. They potentially screen out =< 30 MCATs
Vandy's 10th %ile is a 3.6 for GPA. They potentially screen out =< 3.5 cGPAs.

It's highly doubtful the screen is more stringent than that.

Basic nontraditional information for each school would be a handy thing to pass on year-to-year in these types of threads in the first post. I apologize for any confusion, I shouldn't post when I've just woken up.

Just checked status. LOR are in for me.

AMCAS received email 7/11, Secondary received 7/13, Secondary submitted 7/18

That's my situation. I submitted my secondary w/ letters in two weeks ago. I sent admissions an email recently to check my letters, will let you know what happens.

Haha oh TKD, I have a LizzyM a good amount higher than his and I haven't received a secondary yet from Vandy, so don't (3.75/34 guy) worry. It's a pretty simple concern. You really never know if they want to 'challenge' WashU's stats for ranking reasons! But highly doubt they'll screen anything that high.

 Sorry I figured the people on this thread need to chill out a little about not getting the secondary yet, especially the obviously qualified people. Figured the last sentence would give away that it was a joke 🙄

Oh, I agree 100%, obviously not everyone is going to get a secondary this early (I'm sure not). And it was definitely the last sentence. I went to Vandy undergrad, and I thought to myself, man there is no way we are that mean.

LOL

I actually believed it...well I stopped reading after the first sentence, only to scroll down a few posts, read the rest of the letter, then laughed my ass off.

Nice one 👍

You sir are evil. As I only skimmed the message quickly I thought it was real and was about to say F*&% Vandy, Anyway, how the hell do you write an autobiography!?!? F*&% Vandy... 😱 😡 ...I was born, I went to school, more school, college and now I'm applying to your medical school. Most people write autobiographies after they've graduated from college and have actually done something with their lives...

Also, anyone with a 3.9 and 31 get a secondary?

I haven't gotten a secondary from Vanderbilt yet! My life is over, withdrawing all applications and applying to dental school. Good luck everyone.

You're gonna have to send me a new pair of underwear, because I'm not washing this mess.

Probably shouldn't use someone's actual signature in a fake email. It's not very appropriate, even if you're just trying to make something believable. Considering it makes Vandy look like asshats, they probably wouldn't like it either.

Either way, nice troll, you have too much time. But next time, check for grammatical errors first. Because of improper usage in a fake official email, you get a 0/10.
