2012 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Me too!!! My sleep has gone to hell this week; the anxiety of waiting sucks.

Hi all! Just got an email invite to interview at McLean. It looks like a lot of others did as well; they forgot to BCC us. Good luck everyone!

yeah the BCC thing was not so good 🙂 .plus the way in which interviews are being scheduled is quite stressful...it's hard to make an informed decision when you don't know all your options and have to make such a snap decision! Did you get confirmation on a date or are you waiting? I responded to try and get one of the December dates but didn't hear back.

I just received an e-mail inviting me to the Seattle VA's open house. I also received one for American Lake earlier today.

Congrats on everyone who heard from McLean! I have not heard anything yet, so I'm assuming I'll receive a rejection but am staying cautiously optimistic.

Congrats on Seattle/American Lake! I really respect their policy regarding not giving preferential treatment to people who do in-person interviews. It makes me like them soooooo much more than sites where that's not the case, which makes me want to be there.

That's awesome! This did help. lol. Funny what makes me feel better in these times.

I'm new to the forum..... Glad to know I'm not feeling this way alone... Waiting sucks!! We will get interviews!!! Staying strong together

I can’t sleep so I thought I’d check SDN (poor sleep hygiene I know) and this made my night… both amusing and profound. I’m starting to feel like I am stranded in the Sahara, severely dehydrated, not a cloud in sight (or even a mirage)! But I like your description better 🙂

Got an interview invitation (first one!) via phone call yesterday. The person I spoke to said invitations are rolling, at least through the week.

It could be worse. I was taking a micro-sleep yesterday late afternoon and jerked awake to answer a ringing phone because I was desperately anticipating calls for interviews.

Here's where it gets bad:
1. My phone never rang. I apparently dreamed it and woke up to actually answer it. 😴
2. I'm not even applying for internship this year.

😳

LOL!!! That is too funny. Way to empathize with your peers though!

Welcome to the board🙂

Would you mind sharing if your invite to the Greater Hartford Consortium was a mass email/phone call? I applied, and haven't heard a peep! Thanks!

It was a a generic email (wasn't specifically addressed to me), but it didn't have my name in the BCC or CC line, and so I don't know for sure it was a mass email?

Hey, if there's anybody who has an interview at Bay Pines on the 5th and would prefer the 12th, let me know. I assume that's not the case, but thought I might post and ask, just in case... can't hurt, right?

Received a "dear applicant" Durham VA email rejection this morning.

Email rejection from JMU..I almost think it would be better to have one day where you find out all of your rejections and invitations. At least it would all be done with at one time instead of being anxious for everyday for a month!

Found this in a thread from a previous year (maybe that should be #9...scouring SDN forums from previous years to find notification dates... 😳 ).

I got a confirmation yesterday for my interview date. I imagine they're trying to accommodate a lot of preferences! 🙂

I am so with you on this. The anxiety every time my phone rings or I get a new email is starting to make me feel crazy, I would prefer just to find out about all the rejections and invites in one morning.

Has anyone heard anything from Alberta Children's Hospital? Their deadline to notify is tomorrow so I guess I should expect to hear tomorrow but I was just curious. Congrats to everyone. 👍 and good luck to those who have yet to hear, I know its coming for you. :luck:

Glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't receive the crazy-making "We got your app!" email from the Boston Consortium this year. Definitely wondering if they'll still be sending out interview decisions tomorrow...

I just found a fantastic 12 minute distraction/comfort - whole foods pumpkin soup and macaroni and cheese. Mmmmm. Ok, back to obsessing!

Hey everyone, as a current intern I just wanted to wish everyone good luck throughout this whole process and I wanted to let you know that at least some people on this side of the table are very excited about and looking forward to interviews as well 🙂 Both my supervisor and I can't wait to meet the applicants who will be interviewing for my spot (though I'd rather keep my spot forever thank you very much! 😛 Just gotta up the salary...) My site isn't on the list yet and I'm pretty sure we haven't notified anyone yet (not sure as I'm not part of that process but I'm aware of some planned deadlines), but I'll PM people if anyone posts on here that they received an interview offer from my site.

Keep in mind that early deadlines do not guarantee early interview notifications 😉 Also, it aint over til the rejection letter comes, and yes - sites (in my experience) are very good about letting people know one way or the other by 11:59pm on Dec. 15 (if they state that date as their final deadline). I only had one site last year that I didn't hear from by their posted deadline so I emailed them the next day and they responded promptly (apparently they had sent me an e-mail and it just didn't come through on my end). If their notification deadline hasn't passed, just sit tight (though I know how hard that was last year!). Last year in my experience, notifications really picked up in the first 5-7 days of December so do not panic if you have not heard from any/most of your sites yet! We are getting to you, I promise!

It's such a weird experience... 3 weeks ago before all my apps were in I was feeling so Zen about the whole thing, and the past week has been nothing but anxious worry. lol. I wish I could get back to the nice and calm, somewhat apathetic state!

Mass email rejection from LIJ (child track).

This is so nice to hear! I hope the places I applied are as excited as you are! (I also hope that they will be willing to interview me, so that I can be excited too)

Just got an email rejection. I had applied to the child track. It was a mass emai, and didn't specify the track to which I had applied.

Mass e-mail rejection from UMD/VA Consortium for the one Child Clinical spot/track.

Just got an email invite for open house to Dallas VA neuropsych. Open house dates are Jan 9, 12, 19. The email was very short, but the administrator explained that she didn't have the invitation letter yet.

Congrats! 🙂

Would you mind letting us know when you applied? I know the deadline for apps wasn't until today.

So glad to hear you're loving your site! 🙂 If I remember correctly, you matched in Phase II last year, and I really appreciated your positivity throughout the process, even if I didn't end up matching in the end. Things tend to work out for the best, yes?

They do that every year....my year they sent out ANOTHER e-mail because things got delayed. Third time/e-mail was a charm, for better or worse.

Yup! Matched to my Phase II top choice and I absolutely love it here. I was telling my advisor just a week or two ago that I'm actually happy I didn't match in Phase I as this site was well worth the wait and such a great fit. (My advisor and I had actually debated about applying to this site in Phase I but eventually decided against it. Now, neither of us can remember what the reasoning was for not applying ) It was certainly very very tough not matching in Phase I initially, but now I'm quite thankful for it and it definitely worked out for the best! Are you giving it a go this year? If so, best of luck!!! :luck::luck::luck:
