2013-2014 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Personalized email invitation for University of Miami/Jackson. Pediatric Behavioral Medicine track. Interviews to be scheduled with coordinator over the phone on December 12th.
Same, but for the Consultation-Liaison track.

Third rejection in two hours - Mass email rejection from VA Long Beach received today

I wish they'd do interview invites like Match Day--one big notification day! I guess that would bring its own stress, too. But still![/quote]

Oh my gosh - I TOTALLY agree. There really is a measure of unfairness in having to work on our dissertations, bring our A games to our externships and classes, etc., all the while dripping with gobs of anxiety about what awaits us in our inboxes.

Interview invite today from LSU Health Sciences Center, via personalized email, dates 1/13, 1/17, or 1/24. And I got a Texas Tech rejection, too, but I think I saw that posted already a few pages back from a few of you. (Congrats to those who got invites!)

Rejected from VA Long Beach (boo!)

Invited to Palo Alto VA!

such a roller coaster.
Same here! A little confused by Long Beach, but soooo excited about Palo Alto! Applied to the General and Behavioral Medicine tracks, but email didn't specify which one I'm being interviewed for.

Also invited to University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital (Adult Behavioral Medicine & Rehab Psych). Interviews throughout January.

Just to put into perspective for those with a low invite ratio and still waiting on many:

Of my first five notifications, I got four interviews (all from top sites). Of my next six notifications, I got four rejections (three from lower ranked sites).

I would have been going nuts had the latter been first. There's nothing to say the same won't be happening with you, just in reverse.

Two to go for me; all bets are off.

Right, confusion on my end too! I was bummed about Long Beach because I thought it was a pretty good fit, but then getting the Palo Alto invite made it even a bit more confusing. Guess it just goes to show how unpredictable this process is!

Me too. This is the first rejection that has really hurt.

I'm probably beating a dead horse :beat: and there have been multiple posts about this already 🤣, but try not to take it personally +pissed+! This internship process is probably the biggest cluster$%&! :bullcrap: :wtf:of our graduate school experiences. Sometimes you get really frustrated :scared: and you just want to bang your head against a wall :bang: , and then you get a rejection that really hurts :smack: and you feel like you just can't take it anymore :boom:, but we will get through this, go off on internship, and graduate :prof: and never have to deal with this crap EVER again :claps:.

Sorry if that was irritating!

Invite to UNC School of Medicine 12/6 via personalized email. Behavioral Medicine track (though no track-specific info in the email). Interview dates Jan 14, 15, 22, 23

Anyone hear from the DC VA today? Their packet says decisions will be sent out today.

Also, I got a mass rejection from Advocate IMMC

Ugh, I'm really sorry. I didn't match last year and in the last few days before the 12/15 deadline I was just clobbered with rejections. It's demoralizing, I know. I'll share some wisdom with you that it took me a loooong time to gain. Getting rejected, although it seems like it speaks volumes about your skill as a clinician/researcher, speaks much more loudly about the insanity of this process. I don't know any of you personally, but I trust that we all bring unique skills and talents to the table. I know it's difficult, but try to remember that throughout this process!

At the very least you should get an honorary doctorate in creative emoticon usage

Dear applicant email from the Tampa VA (I applied to their general track...can't remember if they have more tracks than that). Interview days are January 3rd and January 10th. The email also offers to set up phone interviews between Jan. 2nd and Jan. 9th.

Thumbs up for a site giving us the option of a phone interview!

Awesome graphics!

I really am not taking it personally. It hurts only because I felt it was a truly excellent fit; my previous rejections were fairly predictable. But, really, I am doing very well; this process has actually been *relatively* kind to me, in terms of my getting interviews to a half dozen very competitive sites.

Same here, except Eating Disorders Track (though also not listed in email). SOOOOO excited about this! This is one of my top choice sites!!!

I think each site is looking for something very specific, and sometimes you have it and sometimes you don't.

I also applied to SFVA and haven't heard anything yet. They are pretty selective in inviting for interviews (I think 20-25 people a year) so I'm thinking there are more rounds of rejections before invites go out.

From what I've heard, SFVA is one of few sites that sends out both invites and rejections on a rolling basis over several weeks. I'm usually on the pessimistic side when it comes to sites that have started to notify already, but I think it's safe to stay optimistic in this case 🙂

Also got an invite to UMiami/Jackson Memorial Medical/C-L track, and a rejection from the Miami VA. All while at my first interview!

What's driving me a little nuts is that I've seen rejections and interview offers from some sites where I applied, and I haven't received either response yet. Totally makes me wonder if something happened with the application, although that's probably just needless worry. :grumpy:

Invite from Baylor College of Medicine Psychiatry Dept (note that this is different from the Baylor/Texas Children's Hospital internship). I applied to the Child/Family track. The invite was via "dear applicant" mass email with an attachment including the invitation-- I was SURE it was a rejection until I read the attachment. Congrats!

Has anyone heard from Baylor/Menninger's/Ben Taub? (adult track). I'm wondering if there will be a different notification.

What about Denver VA? Anyone heard from them yet?
