I assume you don't rank programs where you haven't interviewed, because those programs aren't going to be ranking you.

Rejection today from Eastern Virginia Medical School (Adult Medical Inpatient).

I assume you don't rank programs where you haven't interviewed, because those programs aren't going to be ranking you.

I've assumed this also, but it's not that simple in that some programs say they may rank individuals who weren't invited to interview. I suppose my question is more of a logistical one, in terms of what an applicant is even allowed to do. For example, do sites submit beforehand their finalists to the Match? At any rate, if it's allowed, it doesn't hurt one whit to rank every site you applied to.

Yes, applicants are allowed to rank any site they applied to, regardless of rather or not the site ranked or interviewed them. Whether or not this ever works for the applicant is another story, but it is allowed.

(Updating now, btw!)

Is it recommended? I guess it can't hurt you, so maybe just rank them unless the site outright tells you that they aren't ranking you?

Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised! I remember last year a lot of people who applied to similar site list didn't hear back til early December so it took off a load of stress to hear back earlier. I have 9 interviews including virtually all of my top choices, save for two that haven't informed anyone yet.

First interview is Friday though so now that stress can begin!

Ollie- 2 questions, if you don't mind. Is this your first time going through the match? And where's your interview Friday? (my first is friday as well)

I wouldn't expect too many people to match at sites that did not extend an interview because I do not believe many sites would rank a candidate that was not interviewed or at least wait listed. But who knows? Last year several of my sites said in their rejections that I would not be ranked. I had one site that couldn't extend an interview but told me that I should rank them, I did, but ranked them last.

Yeah, I'd say if you're going to rank them, rank them below all the sites that interviewed you.

Huh, interesting. I guess that's why some sites specify that they won't be ranking a rejected applicant.

siamesekitten Which forensic sites did you apply to and which have you heard from? I am applying to mostly forensic and state hospital sites to have haven't heard a peep!!!

Yeah, I'd say if you're going to rank them, rank them below all the sites that interviewed you.

This makes some sense, but I just want to emphasize that you should rank your true preferences. It's very easy to slip into doing rankings on how likely you are going to be matched at a place -- but if you really would like to go to Site X more than any other site -- even if they didn't offer you an interview -- then it does not hurt you in any way, shape, or form to rank them #1. Of course, your odds of being ranked anywhere you didn't interview are slim to nothing; I'm not naive to that. But the principle is a simple one: Would I rather go to Site X than not be matched? If the answer is yes, then rank the site. It's simply clicking a button. And there is no reason to rank sites lower for which you feel you are more of a long shot, if indeed your true preferences are higher. This soap box might seem kind of pedantic, but I just want to be very clear: rank what your true preferences are, no matter what!!!!

When did you receive the Memphis VA rejection? I'm still waiting to hear from them. Thank you in advance! 🙂

Updated! Please note that the new entries are now bolded.

Do you all use the main list/option to submit anonymous invites? If no one is using the main list, I have better uses for my time than to update it. If you are actually using it, I'll keep updating.

My first post here. Seems like most people here are applying to different sites from me. Maybe that's a good thing?

Interview with Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health. Notified yesterday by phone. Dates 1/6, 1/13, & 1/21.

Rejected from Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford/Children's Health Council today by personal email. Still waiting on 15!

I like the main list since this list has gotten so long and it's easier to read that and look for the updates. Thanks for doing all this!

Here are my additions on sites/tracks that haven't been covered already on the main list.

Rejection from Central Western Massachusetts VA: generic email 11/29
West Haven VA invite: 12/3 via personal email (General Mental Health PTSD and COMH); interview 12/19

Well, you're entering a legally binding contract to spend a year at a site you've had no interactions with. That's a risky move, to say the least.

Thank you for making the main list. Please keep if you have the time. Next year future internship applicants will thank you when they look at this forum for expected interview and contact dates from sites 🙂

I really appreciate the main list since it is easy to reference. A HUGE thank you for facilitating it!

Brigham Young University CAPS, email on November 27. On-site interviews 1/8, 1/15, 1/22, & 1/29.

Also, I definitely like the main list.

I definitely use the main list and truly appreciate being able to send you info anonymously. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Futureapppsy2,
I use the main list every few days more than individual posts. Thank you so much! Just a suggestion (since you are super busy w/ grants in addition to everything else!), maybe you could keep us going until Shortly after Dec.15 and then cut us free to fend for ourselves. I can't say how much I admire your efforts...totally self-less, since you're not applying for internship this year. Thanks and happy holidays! 🙂

Sure. But even then, there are many ways to know about a site (reputation, past experiences, conversations with others) that make the option of matching there vs. not matching at all a no-brainer.

yeah, I agree w/ Arya. I know graduate school interviews really influenced my top choice, so I imagine internship interviews will be similar in that regard.

I might actually need that main list! Its my go to after reading all of the posts. I get excited for each person who gets an interview. I get bummed for each who does not. I get anxious like everyone does. Then I look at the list at the start/end of each day for the purpose of seeing a straightforward list of what I may/may not have missed out on. It helps me chill. THANK YOU!!!:claps:

I LOVE the main list, but I also think that it's incredibly helpful for people next year. I have obsessively checked interview threads since 2010, and this one is the best yet (with much more information in a centrally located place). It's invaluable.

It's been a quiet one today! Really letting the anxiety simmer in my guts...thanks interview process!

You know I am wondering about this...if when TDs send invites via email or call people they consider the time difference. For example, 8am EST is 5am pacific time.....

Interview at VA Northern California Healthcare System, unfortunately not personalized; neuro track. Dates offered are Jan. 2, 6, 14, 21, 23.

One of my invites was via phone for a site in a different time zone (I'm EST). It was like 7:30 my time and I was at Chipotle eating. I had to borrow a pen from a table near me in order to write down all the information!

Rejection letter from Fargo VA +pity+

I live on the west coast and got a call from an east coast site at 6:30am. The training director was well aware of what time it was for me because the first thing out of his mouth was an apology for calling so early! I was thankful that I was awake and getting ready for the day because I could have easily picked up the phone in my sleep! 🙂
