2013-2014 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interview invite for the Ohio Psychology Internship received tonight at 8:04 pm, rejection snail mail letter from State Operated Forensics in Minnesota, and rejection email from earlier in the afternoon from Georgia Regents University/Charlie Norwood VAMC Psychology Residency Consortium.

Alfred I duPont children's hospital/nemours interview extended- available dates January 3, 6, and 13!

Dear applicant interview offered via email for North Bronx Healthcare Network / Jacobi Medical Center around 4pm. Two interview dates offered; 1/9 and 1/16. So excited about this one!! :heckyeah: They noted that if I applied to their other site (which I didn't) that I will hear from them shortly.

Figured I'd reply too since I'm in the same boat 🙂

I've heard from and gotten interviews at Bellevue Forensic Track, St. Elizabeths, and FCC Butner

I haven't yet heard from FCI Petersburg, FMC Devens, FMC Lexington, FMC Carswell, FCI Ft Worth, USMC Springfield, Central Regional Hospital, Florida State Hospital, Geocare/South FL State Hospital, Napa State Hospital, Vacaville State Hospital, Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo, and our school's closed consortium.

Where did you apply?

@Ror711: I applied to Tulane's Forensic and Adult tracks, LSU/Southeast Louisiana Internship Consortium (one forensic site), Broughton Hospital, Manhattan Psychiatric Center, Kern County, Minnesota Sex Offender Program, and Central Texas Internship in Clinical and Forensic Psych….and haven't heard from ANY. I got a rejection from State Operated Assessment in Minnesota today and have 2 rejections other than that. Has anybody heard from any of these sites??

I also applied to a few other state hospitals and LSUHSC as well as a handful of university counseling centers.

Because every year there are people who write off sites because of it and later get interviews. He also reminded us that it's still really early in the notification process and Dec 15 is only a guideline, not a requirement.

Because why?

Because some sites notify in waves or send multiple mass emails or notify different tracks differently or send invites by the phases of the moon. So, you shouldn't count yourself out at any given site until you're actually rejected, as I've been telling my friends who are applying this year. 🙂

To others who are interviewing with Boston Consortium: Have you had your interview date confirmed yet? It's been a week and I still haven't heard.

New to this forum and have a couple to report that I hadn't seen:

1. Lexington VA, phone call on 12/2, interview invite. Available dates 1/10 and 1/17.

2. VA Central Iowa (Des Moines), personal email interview invite 11/26. Available dates 1/9 & 1/16

@DenWendt: nope, haven't heard back from Boston Consortium. Should be end of day today or tomorrow though bc they wanted everyone to respond to the SurveyMonkey by today.

Re: Sites we haven't heard from but others have, it does seem less likely there will be an invite if they have their interviews already going on this week and next.

St. Luke's/Roosevelt Invite (email). Adult Track. Interview date offered December 12, 8:30am-noon.

Interview invite from Missouri Health Sciences Consortium via phone call (yesterday 12/4 at 4:30 PST). Dates offered are Jan. 10, 17, 24, 31. Neuro track.

Bummer, I assume that if Hines sent out some invites yesterday, they're probably all done now. lame. Did anyone else end up getting an invite from Hines?

I might wait whenever they posted they would inform applicants about their status. Again, you may be on their "maybe" pile......

Updates from MMHC:
I just emailed the director, and she said interviews should go out in the next couple of days.

Rejection from Lurie Children's Hospital (Chicago) via unpersonalized (and not very warm and fuzzy!) e-mail.

Also, invitation to attend Hennepin County Medical Center open house (received yesterday) on either Jan 6 (1-5pm) or Jan 10 (8-12).

Personalized email invitation to interview at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago! Only one date was given, Thursday, January 9th. They asked me to choose between an 8am to 1:15pm time slot or 12:00pm to 5pm.

Oh, that's good to know. I'd been waiting on Des Moines to make travel plans, but it's looking like I don't need to. Congrats to you!

Hi everyone,

What's the protocol on changing interview dates? Do sites frown on that? I'm staring down the barrel of some back-to-back dates/overlap, and am debating whether or not to just make some tough decisions now...

Personal invite to interview at Phoenix Children's Hospital on Thursday, January 9th, Friday, January 10th, Monday, January 13th, or Wednesday, January 15th.

Has anyone been invited to interview at the San Francisco VA or the Palo Alto VA?

Sites understand that candidates can be challenged by overlapping dates. Asking to re-schedule is fine and not uncommon but has these risks 1) it can signal to them that they are a less desirable site 2) alternative times may not be available so a phone interview will be offered as an alternative. If you have a long list of interviews, then it is fairer to the site and other candidates to let go of an interview for a site you already know would be low on your list. (eg: if you have more than 8 interviews and they are not all highly competetive sites, then let those interviews go to take more preferred ones.)
