2013-2014 APPIC (internship) interview thread

I'm curious if anyone's been invited to the Salt Lake City VA. I got a rejection email yesterday but I didn't see anyone report an invitation... Maybe I was just part of the first dump.
 
I've been babysitting my cell for interview calls but obviously during clinical hours I cannot pick up. Has anyone received a invitation to interview via voicemail?

Non-personalized e-mail invitation for the University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center! 🙂 Interview times/dates are as follows:

Skype option: (2 hours)
Thursday, January 9, 10AM-12PM
Friday, January 10, 1-3PM
Monday, January 13, 10AM-12PM
Monday, January 13, 3-5PM

In-person option: 8:30-1pm; or 11:30-4:30 for the following dates
Monday, December 16, 2013
Thursday, December 19, 2013
Friday, December, 20, 2013
Monday, January 6, 2013
Tuesday, January 7, 2013
 
Anyone know if UCSD/VA is still notifying people of interviews?

I did and it cost me the interview since they only had one slot and I already had an interview.
 
Hoping to hear from Texas Tech University and Appalachian State University Counseling Centers today! Anyone else waiting on these sites?

Asking to re-schedule is fine and not uncommon but has these risks 1) it can signal to them that they are a less desirable site 2) alternative times may not be available so a phone interview will be offered as an alternative. If you have a long list of interviews, then it is fairer to the site and other candidates to let go of an interview for a site you already know would be low on your list. (eg: if you have more than 8 interviews and they are not all highly competetive sites, then let those interviews go to take more preferred ones.)

I agree in general with what was said above (especially the part about this being a good problem to have), but I think the risks of changing interview dates are somewhat overstated. Sites know we are trying to arrange travel, hotel, and arrange multiple interviews. It makes sense to change an interview date if it would save you a whole flight/hotel/car rental for example. I think asking to change an interview date indicates continued interest in that site while acknowledging that this is a crazy process with a lot of moving parts. If a site balks, and you're in a position where you have multiple interview offers, then do you really want to be at that site for a whole year?

It just sucks that because of the internship imbalance, sites can really leverage that against us by making us excessively worried and willing to spend money we don't have to travel to as many sites in person as possible. How is it possible that in the era of Skype and Google Hangout that there are still sites with mandatory in-person interviews? Isn't psychology as a field supposed to respect rather than exploit vulnerabilities?

Also still waiting on Texas Tech! Looks like last year they got back to people on 12/3 and the year before on 12/2 so they are definitely due.

Yeah I noticed that too! Hopefully they have not sent out invites...that we just have not heard and others have!

Oh wow, that's a good point. I'm sorry that happened! That's really frustrating. I hadn't thought of that part (and luckily, that hadn't happened with my VM). Realistically though, that could happen regardless of whether a call goes to voicemail or you answer it, depending on the order you're called. I went through and did my best to create a list of suggested or known dates of interviews for different sites so I could try to plan strategically even before the interviews came (not that I expect to get that many in the slightest, but to prevent any potential overlaps if possible). Since it's impossible to be by your phone at all times with clinical hours, predict the order you'll get called in, etc., that might be a good thing to do to try to prevent that?
 
To the people that might be freaking out that they are on the waitlist/"maybe" or rejection pile if a fellow SDNer has heard back from a site. I received an invite yesterday that specifically asked me to not share with anyone else that might have applied as they will be sending out invites/rejections till the middle of next week! As a way to respect their request, I cannot post the name of the site but know that if you HAVE NOT heard - THAT MEANS NOTHING.

I had a phone call yesterday from someone offering me an interview. I was seeing clients at the time. I called back as soon as I could and was lucky to get my first date. Just got an email this morning that the date I picked was the most popular one.

Yes---but last year and the previous year they notified last week of November. So I guess that doesn't give much but also their first interview date/option is Dec 16th..so I feel it is coming soon?

ALSO: I just received a personalized rejection email from James Madison University CSDC. I knew it was coming since people had already received interview invites but it's nice to have some kind of confirmation.

Yes! At least none of us have heard from Appalachian State or Texas Tech!
 
Phone call for Training Director from Appalachian State University! She informed me about On-site and Skype Interviews. On-site are Jan 7th, 8th, and 9th and Skype interviews are on Jan 6th! YES!!!!!
 
Update: just received a personalized rejection from Texas Tech. 🙁 At least I finally heard something.
 
It's ok, they were low on my list anyway. My hope for internship is to at least be somewhat close to my family, and it was the furthest site from them. I hope you get good news later this afternoon!
