I'm a reapplicant and last year I was placed on "hold for spring consideration" after my interview. That turned into a spot on the alternate list in the beginning of June, and I remained on the alternate list until classes started in August. So, if they're doing things the same way this year, no one should except to be placed on the alternate list until the interview season concludes.

That's almost 3 months ago. I wonder if you need to send a quick e-mail for an inquiry. Not sure.
 
I called. They simply said that they would let me know when a decision was made. I'm beginning to think that it's possible that they have my address wrong or something.

perhaps your interviewer took forever to get back to them with their report ?
 
For those of you who interviewed here. About what time was your day over?
 
Does Downstate offer scholarships to new incoming students? I know SUNY Buffalo gives out RWJF scholarship to some students. I was wondering if there is anything else I should be aware of, besides filling out FAFSA.

I am a member of the Downstate 2017 Med Council and I am here to inform you guys about the unofficial Class of 2018 FB group.

The way the Downstate FB group works is that the school makes an official FB group, and the students make an unofficial one.

Every year, students mainly use the unofficial one so that we can discuss things on an unofficial basis with no affiliation to the school. Typically, upperclassman also join to give advice to the new class and to make sure your transition to medical school goes as smooth as possible. Remember, please also join the official group to get information straight from the school/administration!

thats a rough wait. applied last year and followed the thread pretty closely, but dont remember anything like this so i wonder what it means for us.

Congrats to all of you accepted people!=)

I had just received the invitations to the shadow a student day, research day and the rest of the packet from Downstate! so excited to go visit the school again!
 
For those of you who have been accepted, it says we need to submit the attached acceptance reply form, however I don't see it in my packet. What did it look like? All I see that needs to be submitted are the health documents?

It should be a pink piece of paper where you sign whether you choose to attend or not. You should call them if you are missing it. I had two pages of their letter and the slip to send back.

The health forms come in later with the admission package (i was accepted back in october, but just received my admission package with the health forms and other info today)

I took the course when I was placed on alt. list last year. Approximate cost is around $80-100. I needed the same day certification option, so I chose HeartSaverNY course in Brooklyn. There are also other courses, one of which is offered at SUNY Downstate campus. I think the contact info was mentioned in the last year's thread.

dammit, I got the spring grade request back in early September. I was just put on "hold for spring review" status. never ends...

Hey there, I saw a few posts back that you were waiting for an II and had the request for fall grades, did they just keep you on hold pre-interview?

32 MCAT, 3.6 sci, 3.8 cum, non-trad, in-state, strong ECs, leadership, community work and research pubs. Good luck to you, it's a crapshoot..

So the people who have been placed on holds and such are notified directly via e-mail? I haven't heard anything from SUNY Downstate since their request for my spring grades back in August.... is it safe to assume rejection?
 
straight email from downstate, no place to check a status

if you called them and asked that, they'd probably tell you it is not safe to assume rejection.
 
ahhh anyone know of anyone who got an II after the fall grades request? 🙁 i tried so hard this semester just for the chance to get an II. would suck to be on hold list again
 
So I was complete 10/16, no communication whatsoever since then. Anyone have a sense? Too early (I hope) to assume rejection?

Did you get a definitive pre-interview rejection, or the equally dreaded pre-interview "hold for spring consideration"?

I was never on hold so they probably made their decision a while back.

I interviewed 11/5, OOS, 3.67, 33MCAT, and have still received no response. Anyone else? 🙁

Also, have people been receiving rejections through mail, or solely through e-mail? I'm preparing for the worst 🙁

Someone got a rejection through snail mail which I didn't know they did.
 
I interviewed on 10/22 and haven't heard back yet. Don't feel bad. Haha.
 
I'm really excited to interview here on 2/4. Been my top choice for a while. Based on previous years, is a February interview just a competition for wait list spots, or do people actually get accepted?
