Hey, I called them last week about the July 1st deadline and they said it's no big deal if you get things in later. The July 1st deadline is a soft deadline and just serves "as a motivator" according to the lady who answered my call; she said it has no effect, but then she said just get them in at your earliest convenience. lol hope that helps....

Makes sense. Not many calls lately on this thread though. Slowing down? I think they could easily make the extra space for that list right there!

It sure seems that way, at least on SDN. But it could be a vacation week or something like that for the committee. Maybe next week will be big? Big speculation. But that's the fun of this thread, no? 😀

Yeah. Mine happened a few days after I sent the email with the link to my "certificate". It seems the checks are just slow in being posted.
 
Anyone have their loans disbursed yet? I should have had all my finaid docs submitted but no word from them for a long time.
 
For those who received the faculty mentoring form, is listing internal medicine as one of our interested specialties enough, or should we specify subspecialty as well?

I assume if you put internal medicine they will try to match you with an internist. If you are more interested in a subspecialty, then put that

Have any accepted students received information regarding PRIME access yet?
 
Guys what LORs did you submit? I got the idea that they only want committee/ letter packet, although I have more from volunteering/shadowing.
 
For those of you who are accepted, has any of you received the white coat form other than the white coat ceremony form? I was under the assumption that they would send/email us a form asking about the size of our white coat for the ceremony?

Does anyone know what the process is to waive the health insurance if you have comparable insurance? They still haven't sent out instructions for that right?

I didn't get instructions, but I went ahead and did it myself after seeing some people in the Facebook group discussing it. Here's the link: https://app.hsac.com/sunydmc
 
Yeah, you have to call the number at the top of the page though and get them to put you in the system otherwise you can't fill out the form

Thanks! it was working yesterday (enter last 4 digits of your downstate ID instead of your SSN), today it just says:
There is currently no active semester.

If you need information about a previous semester, please contact us.

Information about the coming semester will be posted soon.

I'll try calling the number and see what happens though.

BTW, are you guys going to buy all the textbooks Downstate said we should have in the email they sent out? That's a lot of money and I'm not sure if we will have time to go through all those books?

With the way the curriculum is going to work I wouldn't be surprised if we have to use all of those, but a lot of them are available online via PDF. The students actually have a Dropbox with them on it that I'm told we'll get access to.

The general consensus is to purchase the anatomy texts/atlases for sure and everything else is up to you it you like hardcopy vs digital copy
 
Hello everyone! I just want to tell people who are still on the waitlist not to despair. I was placed first on the hold-list, then on alt. list 2 years ago, and I'd been waiting until admissions office calls me before Aug. 4th, but they did not. I had to reapply again, and this time I was granted an interview earlier, and I was accepted without being put on hold or alt list. The most important things in my case were: applying earlier, and adding ECs to my application. I went to Downstate, and volunteered in one of their science labs. I also shadowed one more doc. I didn't rewrite my PS, but I prepared for my interview very thoroughly. Almost all questions Downstate's interviewers ask are listed in the Interview Feedback section on sdn. I hope things will turn out well for everyone.

This is probably a really silly question, but falling on desperate times here -- Are there any accepted students out there who are not completely, a 100% sure yet that they will be attending Downstate? (definitely a silly question lol) Thanks in advance!

All I know is to show up at the auditorium at 8am...nothing more than that...
