2013-2014 Texas A&M Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure I remember reading that for mcat score it will never say true. Just make sure on TMDSAS it says reviewed.

I don't have a committee letter cause my school kinda messed up the process for me so I'm sending my letters as a packet of 3 🙁. Hopefully that won't cost me.

My MCAT scores said true for a little while, and then I went under review. Not sure why they say it won't show up as TRUE, but it definitely was there.

My full application said true before going under review. And per one of the admissions committee's I talked to, TMDSAS does not actually send applications to schools until it is complete including rec letters. May be different per school, but that is what I was told.

Thats weird.. I received emails from UTSW/UTHSCSA saying that they received my application...

I really dont know why committee letters take so long..

Anyone get the email to fill out a student registration form?

Yea, I got the registration form request on 6/10 as well

What does that form mean? Lol

My fee just showed up as true as well after a couple days.

I don't know. I got the registration email today. It seemed a little redundant. All the information that asked for had already been input in other forms, so it is probably an internal organization thing.

And I got the email shortly after my fee showed up as true as well.

I think the form registration email serves as a confirmation e-mail like the other schools send out.

Trying to watch Game 7 of the NBA Finals and finish this secondary is about impossible...

Is anyone having trouble accessing the secondary website (BAMF)?

yea its not loading...

maybe their doing their regular downloading of the apps from TMDSAS.

Do you guys think II will go out sooner than last year because people started getting "under review" status a lot sooner? Mine and another person has "under review" status in like mid June whereas at the other thread it was like July 3rd-ish....anyway just wondering

I was wondering the same thing - I've been under review since about mid June.

mine is still not true for mcat scores...wonder what's going on...

Under review! My secondary was submitted 6/24 and marked complete 6/24.

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if any of you wrote a response for the hardship question, but didn't ask to be considered as disadvantaged.

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if any of you wrote a response for the hardship question, but didn't ask to be considered as disadvantaged.

I did. I, personally, deemed disadvantaged to mean financial - a very bad financial state to be specific. For my hardship essay I wrote about being a first generation college student.

Hi everybody,

I didn't because I didn't want to sound whiny. I have experienced hardships as any other human has, but I don't think they're pertinent enough to be listed.

This. Unless you were on WIC/ federal welfare or below the poverty level, I dont think you should be claiming financial disadvantage. Just because you dont have an iPad doesnt mean you're poor.

It also said "family illness." If a family member has been hospitalized, I think a short essay is fine. Mine was around 1,000. But yeah, don't make anything up or over exaggerate anything.

Yeah, I figured disadvantaged meant financially...or maybe really tough issues relating to your immediate family. Honestly, neither applies to me (even though I don't own an Ipad 😀)

However, that doesn't mean that i haven't overcome obstacles. I'm glad to see some of us are using that space to describe other challenges so I feel confident doing the same.

I can see why some people are prefering to leave it blank, though. I guess it depends on your other essays etc.

I also think that if you leave some stuff out, you have new things to mention in your interview. Makes you seem more well rounded.

Huh, so I'm currently "under review" even though my LORs aren't in...granted everything else has been received.

Keep in mind, some interviewers don't even look at your application. It depends on the school, I believe.

I don't think it's a big deal if you leave it blank vs. you don't. I don't think it gives you an advantage, regardless of what you do. However, if you put something insanely stupid, it WILL put you at a disadvantage. I put a story about my parents getting hospitalized. They'll probably just be like "oh, okay, moving on." I doubt they care either way.

MCAT/GPA/LOR/clinical volunteer/community service/personal statement matters much much much more.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of it that way. Makes sense, though.

My stats are good, however, I have a non-trad application so I feel the need to make the most out of every essay. But yeah, I figure that the most important part of the application was in the primary.

As another non-trad, I also feel the need to make the most of my essays 🙂
Additionally, to be able to bring up some new information at the interview, one has to *get* an interview in the first place, and I've heard that strong/interesting secondaries are conductive to getting interviews. Don't worry about having things to discuss at the interview - after all, you can always expand on the experiences mentioned in your application.
Just my 2 cents.

Same nontrad boat here. My stats aren't great though and I'm wishing I could have been able to submit earlier. I'm still working on my PS and trying to balance my shift in focus as a nontrad but also expand on my strengths. Maybe I'll be able to submit my app by this time next week or early week after.

I typed my response for the secondaries on Word. Can I just copy paste it onto the application... or does it mess the format up? What did you guys do?

I wrote all my secondaries in Word and Copy/Pasted. Just examine the text box afterward to make sure it looks right. I don't remember which one it was, but on one app it screwed it up, so I just put the Word window on one half of my screen and Firefox on the other and transposed it really fast.

same here...are all yours marked true? my mcat scores are still not marked

My mcat scores aren't marked, either. I took it again on the 20th, so maybe they're waiting until that score is back? My last mcat shoud definitely be in, though.

You released your scores?

I would also like to add myself to the group of "still pending". I took my first mcat on may 11, got the scores back a month later, released the test score to tmdsas and made the note that I was retaking the exam on july 13th (I did that after I took it may 11). tmdsas says they have the score but A&M has not marked my mcat score as true. But, around two days after I released my test score they marked my primary application as true but did not add a date off to the side of it.

With at least three of us having the same dilemma, I have a funny feeling that the school wants all the scores in before they mark you as under review.

When I checked bamf yesterday, my status was marked as under review. It had been pending for quite sometime before that, since I completely all requirements by about June 13th.

Just emailed and asked 🙂 I will report back

yeah... it was marked received back in may...

You mean on TMDSAS?

Just to let all those know that are still pending: I was pending but emailed them asking if they needed anything else from me, since I had everything in. They said no and sent it to review, so a short inquiry can go a long way.

I guess I'll send them an email. I was hoping I didn't have to bother them about something like this..

Hey guys I called them the other day. The guy who answered the phone said that they have a ton of applications to go through and the status will change eventually to under review.

Also for anyone else retaking the mcat: he said that they won't review the application if you have a retake marked. So I guess for them they'll wait for the new score and then review it.

And for those who it doesn't say true next to mcat. Well...it probably never will. Right on the page it says they don't mark that box and that you'll be fine as long as TMDSAS says the scores have been received.

Good to know, thanks 🙂

This is my second year applying and before I use to think, "man what takes these ADcoms so long?! They've had all year to prepare." Now seeing how one application cycle rolls over on another and how the work can pile up from thousands of applicants it must be craziness. My heart goes out to them.
