2013-2014 Wake Forest Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yup. Had a new publication come out and added that I was continuing experiences xyz and related it back to 'why Wake'. II shortly after, don't know of there was any correlation though.

That's good to hear, did you just email it to the admissions office?

I interview at Wake at the end of this week, any last-minute tips for an out-of-stater? Everything I've read about WF (clinical education, research, service) has made it sound amazing, but I'm less familiar with Winston-Salem and NC at large.

Do a little research on the area (there are youtube videos about winston-salem), and have fun!! It's a really relaxed and fun interview day.

Can anybody that utilized the student host program comment on how it went? I've taken advantage of a two other host programs with one great experience and one that was not so great. I hate feeling like a burden on someone else, which is exactly how it was at one school. However, I know that a good student host is one of the best resources to utilize before an interview which would be awesome because I am extremely interested in Wake. Any feedback would be great, thanks

II today for 1/22! I got this spot because someone declined their invitation, but otherwise Wake is scheduling for mid February right now. I submitted my secondaries mid October and sent a LOI/update ( since this is my first choice school) in late December.

I hope this happens for me!!!

Has anyone been rejected post-interview? And has anyone been accepted off the waitlist?

So... Haven't heard anything. Been a while
Silent rejection?

WF doesn't reject anybody until interview season is over. If you're pre-interview, there are still II's rolling out so don't give up hope just yet!

If they could just send one my way any day now that would be great! 😀

Has anyone been accepted off the wait list...? They say they supposedly evaluate you through the interview season

Hi everyone, really excited to interview at Wake end of Feb. II a couple weeks ago.

Same here! I found that any school I send updates to or called pre-interview ended up inviting me to interview shortly after...funny how that works

How soon was quickly after? I sent my secondary mid October and sent an update about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything unfortunately. I'm losing hope since interview season is coming to an end....

I sent an update last week and was informed that I was in the substitute category to receive an II if someone else canceled theirs. Here's hoping that people with multiple acceptances will give up that interview! 😉

So does that mean they have stopped inviting people to interview with them? 🙁

Can any current students comment on how likely it is to get a scholarship? I looked at the WFSM scholarship endowment and it seems like they have 100+ donors who give out scholarships in their name.

I really wish there was a way to expedite this whole notification process. Still haven't heard any word of an interview or rejection. I'm not very hopeful, I just really want to know already.

There was about a month between when my update letter was added to my file, and when I got invited to interview at Wake Forest

Where have you guys been sending updates to?

Sound like? It just states that they have received the update and will add it to your file. It's polite and like 1-2 sentences long.

Sorry I should have clarified in my last message, I'm asking because my email said something like "Your application remains in an interview pool with the possibility of an interview until mid March" and I wasn't sure if it's just a default message acknowledging the receipt of the update materials or not.

I sent them an update back in September in an email and got a confirmed response (just that it would be added to my file) but then I sent another one in December as an attached PDF and I never got a response. I wonder if they are like Albert Einstein where it has to be within the body of the email

I sent mine as an attached pdf and got a personal response (non-generic). I wouldn't worry too much about it, they get it either way. 🙂

I would call and make sure they received it, just to be safe.

Nothing to be sorry for! Didn't mean to sound snarky 🙂. Here's what one of my responses has been: Thank you for the update. We will include this in your file.I would err on the side of caution and call to definitely make sure they received any updates you sent them via email. Hope this helps!

I just gave up my spot in the 2018 class. I hope it goes to one of you guys! Best of luck!
I really loved the school BTW... Considering my family situation though, I decided that some of the other schools would be a better option.

I think someone asked about II stats a while back but just came across this so thought I'd share it:

Nine percent of all applicants are asked to visit Wake Forest School of Medicine for interviews that run from September through March.

Have there really been no II's lately?

So I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think they have stopped giving out IIs. They are only filling in spots should the original invitees no longer be able to attend the interview.

Thanks. At least now I know and can stop holding my breath.

Yeah.... I got a rejection email just now. The email said I was in an "Interview Category." Not sure if that means anything or is just to make applicants feel better but it's a rejection nonetheless.

Same here. Bummer. 🙁

+1 - Got the same "Interview Category" line. Must be generic. I must say I am disappointed. Really wanted a shot here.

And so it begins.

Sorry to hear about that, guys! Best of luck to ya'll elsewhere.

what exactly did the email say? I haven't received anything yet...

"Dear Gene Parmesan,

We regret that we will be unable to offer you an interview this year and cannot further consider your application. Our Committee on Admissions carefully reviews all applications and places them in interview categories. Although your application was in an interview category, we can only interview a small percentage of our applicants. Our action reflects primarily the competitiveness and number of applicants this year.

Thank you for your interest in our school and we wish you success in your career."

I love that every person who is rejected is in the "interview category". I define "interview category" as "people we send interview invites to." I think what Wake means is I am in the "rejection category" as in "people we don't send interview invites to." But who am I to argue semantics. Enjoy my money Wake!
