2013-2014 Wake Forest Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
"Dear Gene Parmesan,

We regret that we will be unable to offer you an interview this year and cannot further consider your application. Our Committee on Admissions carefully reviews all applications and places them in interview categories. Although your application was in an interview category, we can only interview a small percentage of our applicants. Our action reflects primarily the competitiveness and number of applicants this year.

Thank you for your interest in our school and we wish you success in your career."

I love that every person who is rejected is in the "interview category". I define "interview category" as "people we send interview invites to." I think what Wake means is I am in the "rejection category" as in "people we don't send interview invites to." But who am I to argue semantics. Enjoy my money Wake!

Yeah, by "interview category" it seems like they just meant the "sent you a secondary" group. Sounds like an II's from here will be filling in interview spots of people who withdraw.

I emailed if you haven't been asked to an interview there are no more available ;(

🙁 Haven't received the official rejection email but I know it's coming. It really sucks because this was one of my two top schools...it just seemed perfect for me. However, with a 9% interview rate, I can't take it personally.

Well, this is dumb - they neither want to accept nor reject me.

Ha same here. Just waiting on that rejection to roll on in, I guess they're just doing them in batches. Makes sense with how many they have to send out. good luck to everyone out there!

I'm inclined to believe that they hold on to a few applications, just in case people withdraw and they need to fill in the spots. But they will probably go ahead and send out rejections to those they know they can't interview.

Anyone know when the next round of acceptances go out?

I wonder how much is a few applications...

II's are still slowly trickling out-- one of my coworkers just gone one yesterday that is scheduled for March.

/ now that season is coming to an end, I wonder if WL movement will be happening soon.

Has anyone from the alternate list come off of it yet this year?

I had a feeling I might get some important news while traveling abroad - checked my email as soon as I got some sweet, sweet WiFi in Mexico and BAM! Acceptance letter!

chalupabatman13 join the Facebook group! 🙂

And congratulations!!!

So I never got the denial letter but I've heard nothing and I know they are not doing anymore interviews anyone else in same boat?

They took my hundred bucks in July when I submitted my app. Haven't heard a peep since.

II's are still going out, as other's have mentioned, on a cancellation basis; i.e., if those already scheduled with an interview cancel for whatever reason, WF is still selecting from a pool of pre-interview applicants. So maybe you guys are still in that pool. Either way, I imagine everyone will have heard back for sure in a few weeks. March, most likely. Best of luck to both of you!

I was told they would be selecting on a cancellation basis until mid-March.

Can anyone comment on when scholarships will start going out??

Received a 100% tuition scholarship offer by email today. All four years, every last dollar of the $50,300 tuition. Cue enormous freak-out! The subject line was Wake Forest School of Medicine Scholarship, for those playing along at home.

(Standard disclaimer: I'm using my throw-away account to post this news, since talking about money is taboo and I don't want this information linked to my main account. At the same time, I found myself wishing there was more information about scholarships when I was stalking these threads last year, so I wanted to make sure I put this information out there for posterity.)

Did you apply or was it just awarded to you?

I sent in my financial aid paperwork over the course of the last two weeks, but I didn't fill out any separate application for a scholarship. The email made it sound like a merit scholarship rather than a need-based one.

Do you mind sharing stats?

That's amazing. Just wow. All I can say in congratulations! You should be so proud.

For those waiting to hear post-interview, go check your status.

I remember somewhere that Wake said they would organize individual second looks. For the life of me I can't find where I saw that information though. Perhaps a current student could chime in?

That being said, if anyone wants to join me for a second look weekend in April, I'd sure like a friend (or two) on my visit!

EDIT: I found it! It was in an email along with the facebook page link. It says "Individual second looks can be arranged on request." Who's with me?

I just received the email today with it. I have another one planned on April the 11 but outside of that one I'm up for it.

Hey guys,

Kinda freaking out - I'm interviewing at Wake Forest tomorrow and I must have accidentally deleted the email with the instructions for interview day. Would it be possible for those who have already received interview invites to post the instructions or pm them to me? I would greatly, greatly appreciate it!

Looks like a lot of us are in this same boat. Hm...
Any chance that you could be on their list of people to call for interviews if someone else cancels? Has anyone in this situation called to see what it might mean?

I emailed admissions to see what my status was and am still waiting to hear back.

Interview slots are filled (per one user's post earlier up on this thread). I think those who don't have IIs or pre-inteview rejections yet are on some kind of standby in case anybody cancels.

Lol I was in the same boat too, I just withdrew.... Like really people, stop stringing us along just reject us if you don't like us! Sheesh. Silence is worse than the outright rejections!

To fortunate ones holding multiple med school admissions, please please select your school so others have a chance- time is key, pls don't wait till may 15
I'm pretty sure most financial aid offers will be made this month, and then people will be making final decisions and releasing schools.
