You could, although to the best of my memory, Dec. 15th isn't actually a hard-and-fast deadline; rather, it's just a recommendation by APPIC to its member sites. This is what I could quickly find in the FAQ (source: http://www.appic.org/Match/Match-Policies):

For Phase I of the Match, internship programs that conduct on-site or telephone interviews must make a reasonable effort to notify every applicant who submits a complete set of application materials as to his/her interview status.

Sites that conduct open houses to which all applicants are invited and conduct no other interviews are exempt from this interview notification requirement (this process should be clearly stated in the APPIC Directory Online and/or sites' publicity materials).

Notification of interview status for Phase I of the Match must occur no later than the interview notification date that appears in the program's APPIC Directory Online listing and/or other publicity materials, and may be communicated via e-mail, telephone, regular mail (to be received no later than the interview notification date), or other means.

For Phase II of the Match, notification of interview status is not required.

Thus, it seems that all APPIC requires is that sites should list a notification deadline and then adhere to this deadline. Sites that only offer open houses (to which everyone is invited) don't need to contact applicants about their interview status.
 
Question for those of you with at least a handful of applications-- my January is starting to get booked. I have a full time job as a master's level therapist (tried to match last year..) and so now I cant take off tons of time in January. I have 4 interviews now, all 4 Fridays in January.. and 7 places still to hear from. If I get an invite from one of these 7, is the best bet to do a phone interview? Do some places interview in Feb? Any advice is appreciated..

Good morning, bmedclinic. I don't yet have a handful of interviews, but here is what I've been told: 1) Book as many interviews as you can in December or on any other day than Friday in January, 2) Ask for alternative interview dates when you get full, 3) If there are no alternative in-person dates, then ask if you can do a phone interview, 4) If none of these work, let the site know that you will contact them again after you try to do some juggling. Ask the sites that you have an interview at if *they* have any alternative dates, etc. TDs are apparently understanding that we are attempting to juggle travel plans and numerous interviews, so it's worth a shot, unless their interview dates were previously posted. I would prioritize the in-person interviews with your favorite sites. Also, depending on how excited they are about you as an applicant, they may make exceptions or find other times.

I haven't heard of many sites interviewing in February, but it's possible. If I were you, I'd try to book the last part of this month and perhaps some Mondays and Wednesdays in January, if your sites offer them. Otherwise- phone interview it is. Good luck with your travel planning- I'm certain that you will be able to figure out a way to make it all work. 🙂

If I'm not mistaken, the deadline to turn in rankings (for sites and applicants) is Feb. 6, so I doubt anyone would be interviewing in February.

Actually sometimes sites do interview in February but it's probably rare. Someone from my program had an interview the day before the ranking deadline last year.

I would check back in and make sure that the rejection was intended for you and not the person whose name they called you! Maybe they just got the email wrong....
Just trying to stay optimistic, for myself and everyone else! Here's hoping everyone has a week filled with good news and flexible interview dates 🙂

Generic invitation by email at CHOP (and the email was non-track specific). I had counted this one out because I had seen it on the thread already (and booked other interviews during the dates they offered). I attempted to ask whether I could come on an alternative day or email by phone. I hope it works because it is supposed to be a great site.

Thanks for the feedback! The name they called me is the name I am commonly called when people don't read. So...I'm pretty sure it was for me. But it's all good. Here's to interviews from DCT's who know your name!!
 
First rejection from Texas A&M University. I am 6-1 right now which is great 🙂.

Well I received a personalized email invitation on 12/7/12 to interview at Shorehaven Behavioral Health in Milwaukee and a very nice telephone invitation this morning 12/9/12 to interview at Western Kentucky Internship Consortium in Hopkinsville Ky. The very nice woman on the other rend of the phone is going to send me more information by *snail mail* about the Western KY interview. I forgot we still have snail mail! Right now I have 3 interviews including one at my top site. It's amazing how this process makes me flip back and forth from my Eeyore ego state to my Tigger ego state. For right now its "bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun, The most wonderful thing about Tiggers is: I'm the only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" By tomorrow I should be back to full blown Eeyore mode. Maybe AAPIC should send out some free Lithium, Lamictal, and/or Depakote samples when we apply!

Today was the first day that I had to "turn down" an interview due to scheduling conflict. It sucks because I don't have THAT many interviews, it just so happens that most of my sites did not give me a choice of dates at all. I was surprised by this-- a lot of places have emailed me and said "you are scheduled to interview on this date". So it's really a bummer... hoping to hear back from them that they're willing to do a phone interview....
 
I received a personalized email invite at UNCC counseling center. I responded to the email right away and the TD responded to that email. However, I ALSO received a rejection email from them shortly after this exchange.

Hmm. Hopefully that was just an error? I was so excited, I don't want that to be taken away!!!

Don't count on it - I got the same thing. When I contacted them to ask, I received a "Yes, the invitation was a mistake, you should receive your rejection email shortly."

Classy.

Waaaaait a minute!! They invited you via phone and then sent you a rejection email right after?!?! Did u follow up?!? What did they say?
 
Generic rejection from N FL/S GA VA. Really too bad, as I thought I was a pretty good match there.

Only have 7 left to hear from, and 2 of them have already sent out invites so I'm pretty sure I will get rejects. I'm trying to be happy with 6 interviews, but I'm feeling pretty low at the moment, considering how many I applied to and how many I've gotten rejected from.

Bleeeeehhhhhhhhhh.

Whaaaaaat?! That is absolutely unacceptable! They now have to interview everyone. End of story. Ugh! Talk about a wave of emotions due to an administrative error. I hope they sent out apology emails for the mix-up!

Has anyone received an invitation from Texas Woman's yet? On APPIC, they said they were going to review applications last Friday and schedule interviews shortly after.

I emailed the TD about an hour ago to schedule my appointment. They seem great!

Received a generic email invitation for Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Dates for interviews are 1/8,11,18,25 and February 1st. You can either schedule morning or afternoon times! Good to start the week off with an invite!

On a happier note, I received a generic e-mail inviting me to interview at Broughton Hospital.
Their interview dates are:
January 4, 11, 18, and 25
 
Personalized invite to the Battle Creek VA - no interview dates listed, but there are instructions to call and schedule a time.

Also, personalized invite to the University of Arizona SOM - no interview dates listed there either, with instructions to call and schedule.
 
I received a generic rejection letter from North FL/South GA VA this morning.

Generic email rejection from Salem VAMC in Virginia. oh well..I know they had rolling invites and already sent out two notifications in the last month. 7 left to go!

Requested January 11th in my cover letter, and that's what they gave me - other dates were 1/7 and 1/14.

Heard from King's County today with an interview invite - I have to say I was not expecting that! A friend of mine was invited by them over a month ago and I figured that ship had sailed.

Also got an invite from Institute of Living, hurray!

Personalized email invitation to interview via telephone to Washington State University's counseling center. They offer numerous times on 12/13, 12/14, 12/17, 12/18, 12/19, and 12/20. We were asked to rank our top 3-4 interview choices and they will respond to us. 🙂 Hooray!! -HB
