good luck all!

For those of you applying to forensic-related sites, approximately how many face-to-face ASSESSMENT hours did you submit at the time of your applications?

I will likely be applying for internship next year. I took on a voluntary practicum to accrue more assessment hours (as they were woefully lacking). Due to some logistical issues with the site mid-way through the semester, my cases dwindled and they've been slow to pick back up (although I am starting to gain more cases again recently). I've been contemplating taking on a few therapy cases so as not to twiddle my thumbs as much, but I also do not want to fill my hours with therapy clients if my assessment caseload could pick up again (particularly if I need to focus on even more hours this next semester). So, basically, I'm trying to determine where I'm at in comparison to those of you receiving interviews to inform my best course of action.

Thanks to all that sent along recs about possible places to stay while visiting Chicago.. ALSO, DO check your SPAM folder with care.. I found two happy little rejection letters waiting in there for me this morning that were sent a few days back.. boo.

Can we all just make a pact with each other right now that if/when we're ever in a position to communicate with potential internship interviewees that we'll do so with careful grace, empathy, and compassion?

That happened to me with University of Chicago! I also thought it was quite unempathic!

Generic and *very* brief, albeit kind, rejection from Emory's counseling center. Meh.

I've only stayed at the Blake (I think it's a Wyndam?). It was quite nice, but it also cost me a pretty penny. However, I also booked a suite during some extremely busy sports and entertainment weekend for the city. So a basic room during a less busier time might work better... (Ooor, one of the options provided by the other posters might be cheaper by far!)

I should pay more attention when people around here talk about their hotels in the city. It might help. 😛

I think you mean The Drake, and it's never an inexpensive hotel! 🙂

Done.

Nope, The Blake. (I double-checked just to make sure!) 😀

It was bought out by Wyndham at one point so no longer independently owned.

Lol, ok, I stand corrected! 😉

No problem. My memory's failing me in my old age, so I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a Holiday Inn Express or a Motel 6--So I checked for my own ease of mind to make sure the family's dementia wasn't catching up to me. 😛

And now back to our regularly scheduled topic:

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE, in these last few remaining days (for most folks . . . )! May you all continue/start racking in the interviews!!! :luck:

They sent me a super long personalized letter for my interiew indicating all the things I should know before I get there. Very nice.

Hi folks,

Has anyone interviewed yet at Columbia/NY Presbyterian? I'm curious about types of questions they asked/overall impressions and am wondering if anyone has light to shed on this. Any help is appreciated. 🙂

Good luck to all! Fingers crossed for good news this week! :xf:

I was in contact with them a while back to schedule my interview. They seem super nice!

7 interviews, 0 rejections, 11 more to hear from... come on 12/15!

They may seem nice but their email was less then professional. Best of luck!

I applied to about half forensic and half neuropsych/consortium sites. I have about 520 face to face assessment hours, which were accrued over a year long assessment practicum in my master's program, another year long assessment practicum in my doctoral program, and doing some psychoeducational and cognitive testing during a year long therapy practicum. My research is forensic, but my assessment hours have not been in forensic contexts, so that may have played a role, too.

So far, the only forensic site I've gotten an interview at is the Wisconsin DOC. I was rejected from Patton State Hospital and NE Florida State Hospital, and am still waiting to hear from Napa State Hospital, Colorado MH Institute, and FMC Lexington.

Hope that helps!

I see FCC Terre Haute sent out personalized invites and rejections on 12/10; has anyone heard from them since then? I'm still waiting to hear from them...😕

Still waiting on several sites:

Memphis VA
Anchorage VA
Albany Psychology Internship Consortium
Henry Ford Health System (though I know their admissions are rolling, so it could be my app hasn't been decided on just yet).

Has anyone heard anything from either Memphis, Anchorage, or Albany? Thanks much!

Also, I'm reminded of the Churchill quote, "When you're going through hell, keep going." Good luck, everyone!

I had about 470 direct contact assessment hours. Most of my assessment hours were forensic based. I gained most of my assessment hours at practicum site over the course of approximately 2 years. The psychologist I was being supervised only did assessment work. As a result, sometimes it was busy and then there were slow times. I got invited to about 4 forensic/corrections sites. My other invites were to general medical hospitals with a health psychology focus. Although most of my hours are forensic related, my research interest are more aligned with health psychology.

Rejection from Mt Washington Pediatric Hospital.

8 Rej. 2 Interviews. 12 more to hear from.

I'm starting to catastrophize.

I just looked at the notification date for Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center...surely they're notification deadline of Jan 15th is a mistake. That sounds crazy! I know people have heard from them for interviews, but I don't see them on the list of rejections.

Still waiting on:

Franciscan Hospital
Virginia Beach City Public Schools
Lincoln Hospital

I know people say it's not a "no" until you hear a "no"...but I can't help but think that since I haven't heard anything from Lincoln that it just might be a "no".

UNC at Chapel Hill - health track: personalized email rejection. Oh well...a $17000 stipend was going to make it hard to rank them high anyway. Great program though.

Non-personalized, mass "Dear Applicant" rejection email from VA SIERRA NEVADA HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, Reno, NV on 12/12/2012 at 10:20 AM.

🙁

Oh, sad day.
