2013 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received an interview, but a girl in my program also was wait listed. My friend last year received a rejection from them so I am not sure if they have the same procedures this year

....so much silence today. I'm sure they realize that they only have 6 business days left but... do they realize how we feel about their only having 6 business days left?

Thanks for the info! I'd rather be flat out rejected than given some amount of hope (which is probably false) of receiving a last minute interview. Grr!

What a quiet week. Here is to hoping for good news the next couple of days before the weekend 🙂.

Generic interview invitation via e-mail from Massachusetts Mental Health Center, with an interview date of Dec. 17th.

This is another example in favor of keeping your hopes up: they sent a generic interview e-mail yesterday for a different interview date (according to the master list), so I figured I could cross them off my list. But apparently, they weren't actually finished sending out invites yet. So hooray!

I need this logic for the Salem VA in Virginia - they sent out 2 invitation rounds already....3rd time is a charm, come on!

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile

Yea. Did you apply to any other school sites? So far I have only heard from FWISD which was a rejection. Still waiting on Cyfair, HISD, Dallas, and Virginia Schools. The wait is killing me!

The Salem VA seems to be very rolling, as I know they have made phone calls for interviews on dates not listed on the masterlist (heard from people in my program.) So it seems like they just call you when they get to you.

White River Junction VA - Phone invite 12/3, interview options 12/17, 12/19, 1/2, 1/8
Northwestern SOM - Phone invite 12/5, interview options 1/7, 1/11, 1/14

So my peer pointed this fact chart out to me this week :/. Wow!

1 to 2 interviews Match rate = 52% n = 385
3 to 4 interviews Match rate = 69% n = 516
5 to 6 interviews Match rate = 85% n = 538
7 to 8 interviews Match rate = 92% n = 433
9 to 10 interviews Match rate = 95% n = 355
11 or more interviews Match rate = 99% n = 417

How are you all interpreting this? Do you think that this means that it is a waste to go on more than 11 interviews (i.e., if one is invited to 13, they should pick their top 11 favorite unless they think they fall in the bottom 1% of worst interview skills)? Also, do you think these refer to 11 interview invites, or 11 interview offers?

Nope not like that. Just looking at our odds as related to the amount of interviews.

I don't give those things much weight at all. Any statistic involving matching tends to talk about those who matched at an APPIC- or APA- site, not just APA-accred. sites. I think it's a way to inflate the numbers to make the problem look less severe than it really is. I only applied to APA-accred. sites, so I don't think those numbers apply to me.

But, honestly, I think the way to go is to just do your best and not worry about the statistics say. If you're the 1% who doesn't match after 12 interviews, will you feel any less bad?

I applied to FWISD (rejection), but haven't heard from DISD (starts notifying on the 10th I think?) , school sites with the Illinois Consortium (will let us know 12/10), and Virginia Beach.

Good luck! We have 10 more days! I am so over this already.

I wonder if sites really honor what day they say they will notify by. I know APPIC encourages them to notify by 12/15, but some of mine say online 12/13, 12/14, 12/17 (reasonable, the Monday after)... one says 12/23 and I'm thinking, uhhh, really???

So I started having migraines this week for the first time in my life (scary stuff). 😱

I asked the magic 8 ball (yes, the toy) how to get rid of a migraine headache and you won't believe what appeared in the little blue window.....

....

....

"DEC. 15th"

Huh.....wonder what the heck THAT means!?

Yuck, that's awful. I am starting to get back spasms... I hold my stress in my back... awful. December 15th cannot come soon enough. I really hate that this process is literally messing around with my health.

Generic (but very kind) rejection email from Massachusetts Mental Health Center (Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center). They apologized for the delay since their notification date had passed.

Anyone else having a bad day today? Feeling defeated? Trying to find some realistic positivity! Here's hoping for good news soon.

Got the same one. I thought it was the nicest rejection I have received. They seemed to really take care in choosing their interviews and I appreciated that.

Finally my first interview invite!
Notified by phone. Interviews are on the four Fridays in January!

Interview offer via phone call from the TD, offered Jan 4, 11, 18, 25 (UM Adult neuropsych track).

Yesterday was my "bad day" Three rejections. I am holding on to my one interview thus far and working on nailing that interview!

Okay, I'm going to accept this day as it is and stop refreshing the thread now! Here's to great news for everyone tomorrow!!

First received a rejection...

11 minutes later received a... please DISREGARD the previous email...

Interview at Cal State Long Beach - woo hoo!

Haha, bet you had at least a heart murmur. Congrats, that'll be one to remember 🙂

Interview invite via e-mail from University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center! 🙂

Lol...me too! It gave me a good laugh.

Did anyone get a real rejection from Cal State Long Beach, or was that round just invites? I got nothing...

Wondering the same thing, since I haven't heard from them yet. 🙁

Yeah things are getting psychosomatic around here,too...I have the weirdest pain in my chest...started freaking out about it a couple of times but realized it only appears when I'm doing "internship stuff" ....lets pull ourselves together now :boom:

May your email be full of interview invitations!!!

Agreed! Hoping for and wishing for good news for everyone (OK, including myself) who has felt discouraged, stressed, overwhelmed and/or defeated by this process! Here's to having a good day, and to getting interviews! :woot:

Let's start it out with a positive note! Got to practicum to find a personalized email invite to Jefferson County Internship Consortium. Dates are January 4, 7, 11 at 9 am or 1 pm.

And the same to you, LilMissPsyD! :xf: Today's going to be a good day.

I'm also thinking we should reframe the "rejection" thing. It's giving me some "irrational automatic thoughts" which connect to a "core belief" that may not be so kind.

Wonder if "it's a no go" is better, or "so and so site and I did not fit well". That last one's a little long 😉 Maybe "no invitation"?

What do you all think?

Yes "rejection" is a bit harsh....I prefer to think of it as "thumbs down"....👎

Based on my experiences, I'd say the bolded portion above is actually, more often than not, the primary reason an interview offer isn't extended. This is much more frequently the case than is the decision being based on a perceived subpar application/training history. This is particularly true if you've already received some offers, but have gotten stung by an unexpected rejection email.

JLG-RICA rejection email this morning. Then just got one about 13 mins later that stated to disregard the rejection and wait longer to hear back. Oh man....what just happened?!?! That was a pretty horrible feeling for a few mins there. And still, I'm in limbo!

Personalized email invite to interview at FCC-Petersburg, VA. Interview date is January 16th.

Personalized email invite to MUSC child track. Interviews throughout January. I know it is on the list already, but wanted to let others know since the invites are rolling.

Yes! This was a nice way to start the morning. Personalized email invite as well.

I like to think that my application was rejected, but that myself as a person was not even being evaluated.
