P.S Mercyfirst sent me an email asking about my doc project- didn't reject or invited me but sent an email asking for my dct and thesis chair to contact them. not sure what that will mean...

Me too. My first choice on paper... that one stung. #NoFun

Thank you. I have to give it some serious thought. Given some newer personal and financial factors, it may be unrealistic to consider it (and I may not have even applied had I known then what I know now). We'll see.
I suppose you could always request a phone interview for these reasons? I'm not sure if that'll play out well, but may be an option.

Haha! During one call my daughter was yelling "MAMA!! MAMA!!" I mumbled something about the neighbor's kids.

After I got the UCSF invite, I was a little...exuberant. When I told my three-year-old, "I got an interview with Dr. Kramer!" he started hopping up and down yelling "Dr. Nefario is gonna be the next minion!" I got Grued.

is it weird that I felt oddly relieved? I hadn't gotten an interview or a rejection yet- I had convinced myself i gave the wrong contact info... at least now I know I didn't? On the upside my supervisor from last year told me not to go there if that makes you feel better- his office was across from there and he said I should not apply ( when I was doing externship)

Just curious, how are other folks coping with the uncertainty and the unpredictable reinforcement system we find ourselves in? Do you check your e-mail every 30 seconds, once an hour, or not check it regularly at all? I was good about not checking it until this week, and now it's torture. At least for match we know exactly when we are going to get the news. Still waiting to hear back from 15 sites here...
I was like that at first, and then I was able to control myself until I read about how quickly interview slots go. Now I compulsively check to avoid screwing myself. Especially now that it's December and sites have fewer excuses to put off notifying us!

I don't think constant checking is bad in and of itself. It can be helpful, because in many cases we need to respond so quickly. Also, seeing that invites went out for a site I have been waiting to hear from makes the sting of rejection seem less harsh to me when it comes later. The important part of coping with this is self-care. Eat healthy foods in addition to your candy 😉 Exercise. Do a breathing/relaxation/meditation thing. Get fresh air. Fit in some distractions to mellow out your mind, like reading, watching TV, socializing, etc. - even when you have your phone nearby for those oh-so-important alerts. Do the kinds of things you would tell your clients to do - especially during those times you feel like cortisol is going to start spewing from your fingertips.

I can relate to @LGBTpsyD and @heartdignan. I also think it is important to remember that we need time to breathe and relax. Self care, exercise, whatever it is we do. I purposely waited a day to respond one of my sites simply because I needed some time to reflect on dates/site, etc., and also because I didn't want to send a rushed email. They are NOT going to give your slot away if you fail to respond in 5 seconds. 🙂 I've also been taking later dates rather than early dates because it fits better with my overall schedule/life (and most of Jan is free for me but externship runs till mid Dec and I have commitments to my patients there). I really don't think it matters if you interview 1st or last or in the middle. It's about the relationship/connection, right? 🙂

I have my phone alert set --- unfortunately I am not tech savy enough to set a specific tone for key words, so any time I get an email, my phone makes a sound and my heart rate increases. Never thought I would get so physiologically aroused by Groupon...

I think we posted our responses at the exact same time. 🙂 Second @PSYPAS002!

Ahhh, the email-checking. I have gone too far the other way and have just filled my life with distractions.

Today I:

Got the kid up and to day care
Took my wife's car to the shop and got 2 new tires, haggled an alignment and oil change
Put new wipers on her car and stopped by her work with a burrito, exchanged cars with her
Stopped in at another car shop to discuss how to recover from a DIY project in which I got way over my head
Went to the pharmacy to pick up meds
Went home and cleaned out that DIY project minivan
Called the tow truck to have the van towed
Stopped back into the shop to leave my info and authorize the repair
Got to the office at 3:00 (note, this is my 9-5 day job, thank the old gods for nice bosses :owle:
Emailed a mentor about a thing
Emailed a lawyer about an old tax return I've been needing to amend for like ever
Called, then emailed American Airlines about a ticket change/refund (avoid them, please, they really just don't)
And now this. The SDN thread.

Maybe I should work on my dissertation?
Hang in there everyone.

Good for you for being effective. I am having a hard doing anything 🙂

I compulsively check my email and this site. It's turned into a sickness.

For those who heard from Devereux, did you call and reach the woman listed in the e-mail or did you leave a message? I called over an hour ago and left a message but haven't heard back!

Not for integrated behavioral health yet though?

I'm so tempted to tell everyone that they are not allowed to email me until I've heard from all of my sites. I think my alert on my phone when I get an email is giving me heart palpitations (or that might be the excessive caffeine, hard to say).

Hmmmm haven't gotten an invite or rejection from Ashville...

Quiet day today, no rejections, no invites. I thought this week was supposed to be super busy with contacts from sites. Like every day.
That's kind of what I expected, but I think it's more likely to happen next week. I double-checked all my sites' notification days and they're more like Dec. 8 and beyond.

I'm not sure those posted notification dates are of any significance. I have a site on my list that was supposed to notify yesterday and I've heard nothing so far...

wow. just got a call with the same area code and first three numbers of my top choice (who calls to notify)...and it was Well's Fargo. Now that's just unfair.

EEpsychstudent and anyone who has heard from Baylor/Texas Children's...I saw that the Clinical Child and Peds Neuro/Autism Tracks have received interviews...what about just the Neuropsych Track?? Is there anyone who applied to the Neuropsych track specifically that has heard about an interview at Texas Children's?

Thanks everyone! And thanks a lot EE psychstudent for setting this up!
