2014-2015 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called the Henry Ford Health Sciences Center (neuropsych track) right at 10:00am as requested in their email invite. I was asked for my contact information and told they would call me back on 20 minutes. It's been nearly 60 minutes now. Anyone else in the same boat? Should I continue to wait or call again? I don't want to be a bother...

Just received a personal rejection from the Minneapolis VA. Edit: I say personal, but it appears stock (they just added my name at the top). I applied to the general track. Luckily, I was prepared and knew that it was likely coming thanks to this thread 🙂.

+1, but seemed like a very nice rejection at least.

Sorry to hear. And yes, that is true. I appreciated the wording: "your application was not retained for interviewing." Sounds much better than "denied" or "rejected" 🙂.

Same here - for general. Honestly, I thought it was worded funny. What did you all think about the last sentence about them not being open to providing feedback in the future about the reasons for rejections?

I did think that part was a bit interesting... I guess they may have a number of applicants contact them for feedback every year and cannot accommodate all of the requests? But I was surprised they elected to include that disclosure in the mass email.

I just got rejected for the second time from Yale... They already sent me a rejection on 11/21 and another one this morning. I suppose it stings a bit less the second time, even if they were my top choice when I started this whole process :/ lol

I get it, I get it, you *really* don't want me 😉

Long shot (or a hail mary!), but I haven't seen anyone mention the Peds Track at Brown. Child Clinical was mentioned above...

West Haven VA stated that they'd notify today, but I haven't heard anything yet, either.

Thank you for sharing those experiences! I think your advise to prepare for the interviews we already have instead of predicting interviews that we may or may not receive in the coming days is just what I needed to hear. Total crapshoot and horrendous process and I'm just crossing my fingers that I match. It's one year and it doesn't necessarily make or break our careers.

THERE you are... Now, get back in the bag!

me too!

Also, has anyone gotten formal rejections from Texas Children's or Brown? Looks like rejections for Brown went out the same time as invites last year...

Has anyone heard from UNC Clinical Child – Pediatric track? I know TEACHH and CIDD went out but I have not heard re: this track.

Memorial University Counseling Center (Canadian site)
11/20/2014
no track
personalized email invitation
Mid January (sorry, I forgot, they were listed on a different site)

So given that UF Neuro track and Charleston Consortium Neuro sent their invites a long time ago and I haven't heard anything, is it save to assume it's gonna be a rejection? I know we talk here about keeping hopes unless it's a definite, but it just seems too long since the last news from those sites.

Interesting, that is the second Canadian site to go against the December 5th uniform notification date. I wonder if others will follow suit. Congrats on the interview!

I know you probably want closure, but it really ain't over 'til it's over. If I were a site, I would invite a group and keep a waitlist, then invite more as some of those invited first decline or cancel. We may just be on that waitlist. Also, the waitlist may end in a rejection anyway, but who knows? I guess my point is, we don't. BTW, I feel you, I'm in the same boat with UF and Duke neuro right now.

MUSC makes it clear they do rolling invites. So definitely don't give up hope yet! I'm still waiting to hopefully hear from them as well.

Hi Madkrisjazz - I am in the same boat as you are with UF (and some other sites of course). I have a color-coded spreadsheet of all of my sites to keep track of interview invites and rejections. If a site is in highlighted in green, it means I received an invitation. If a site is highlighted in red, it means I received an official rejection. If a site is highlighted in yellow, it means that I know a mass invitation went out for that site in my track, but that I didn't receive one. I think this system helps me a lot with my own expectations (and of course with my organization). For now, UF remains in yellow. I know that there is a decent likelihood that I will not receive an invitation for that site. If I do, then great, but if I don't, at least I was prepared! Hope this helps 🙂

Yeah I keep it organized as well. And I stalk this forum 🙂

How ridiculously inconsiderate!!!

Anyway, my own bad news....

Rejection from West Haven VA Clinical Health Psych track. Onward!

I find it interesting how everyone copes and adjusts. =) Personally, if I know a mass email went out for my track, I take them off my list. Of course I still have hope for some places (I have already gotten an invite to one site when I did NOT get one of the initial round of invites), but in terms of saving dates and scheduling... i try to not to give them any more thought.

I'm still waiting to hear from the Clinical Child-Community and CIDD tracks also.

I have asked this already so apologize for doing so twice but I want to make sure I did not miss an e-mail:
Has anyone heard from VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland School of Medicine / VA Medical Center Child Outpatient Track?

I definitely agree regarding the saving dates! If a site is yellow on my spreadsheet I do not save dates for interviews for that site anymore.

A friend applied to the child outpatient track as well as the school mental health track and only received an invitation for the school mental health but no rejection for the child outpatient. I don't know if this helps 🙁.
