2014-2015 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone hear from the Institute of Multicultural Counseling and Educational Services in California? They were supposed to let applicants know by the 5th , but I haven’t heard a peep.

I applied there, too. I think their notification date is Jan 5th, so we still have a while left to wait, unfortunately!

Today was a good day for me. Some new ones that I think haven't been mentioned:

Site: University of Pennsylvania - UCC
Invite or Rejection: Invitation
Date: 12/8
How notified: Personal email
Interview dates: 12/17-19 and 1/6-1/9

Site: University of Minnesota - UCC
Invite or Rejection: Invitation
Date: 12/8
How notified: Mass email
Interview dates: 1/5-1/9 and 1/12-1/15

Congrats on U Penn! I was hoping for an interview there. I guess that means the rejection letters will be coming soon🙁

In light of being placed in an "alternate" category by my number one site, I have a question: has anyone here matched to a site after being placed on the alternate list by them, or do you know (of) anyone who has? I guess I'm still in the denial (or bargaining?) stage of grieving the loss of my top choice 🙂

Anyone rejected by UVA CAPS yet? This is ridiculous!

Things could be ridiculous. I am still waiting on a site that sent out their invitations on Nov 21 or something like that. They do rolling invites but since that date there have been no more invites or any other info, as far as I know. So...

So you know, I was also worried, but I checked their website and they changed their notification date back to the 15th of December. Here's hoping for good news for the both of us by then.

Good to know, I was getting tired of refreshing my email. Crossing my fingers that we'll both hear good news 🙂

It definitely gets frustrating. UVA's deadline is about 12 minutes from now, and still nothing.

I have a question for all of you lovely people planning trips to these interviews. As I was planning three that I have back to back in Chicago, Ohio and New York. While I was worrying about the price for plane tickets my husband suggested I drive instead. From Chicago to Ohio is 4 hrs driving and from Ohio to NY is about 7 total (I have all weekend to drive).

Do you think this would be a good idea at all? Part of me likes the idea of driving instead of flying (because of possible delays/cancellations etc). Part of me is petrified of driving in the middle of winter through these areas.

Thoughts?

If the weather's too bad to drive it's also too bad to fly. At least with driving you're on your own schedule and if there are storms coming you can try to time your driving around them. Roadtrip!

Flying was ideal for me because it gave me time to prepare for my next interview and catch a nap. (Also, I don't have the nerves of steel to drive during the night in possible snow.) You really just need to know yourself and your own preferences.

I just got a super nice personalized rejection from USC. I really like Dr. Reyes. Darn.

Just got the long-awaited Jackson Memorial/UM interview invite via mass email for the Adult Neuro Track! I am thrilled! Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear!
That's awesome. *fingers crossed that peds comes out soon*

Yes me too just got a very nice rejection email. I really like Dr. Reyes. From my interaction with her via email I can tell she is warm and approachable

Me too, I'm sorry. 🙁 Dr. Reyes seems really nice.

It seems they are in the process of sending out invites now, so hopefully there are still many more emails to be sent out. Goodluck to others waiting on this...

Anyone else get a non-commital "you are still be considered, but you're not invited for an interview. Oh and please rank us." email from OK Health Sciences Center?
So it turns out I got this too - apparently on 11/19 (it went to my spam folder, but I didn't see it, even though I was checking). I have no idea what to do with this. Is it just a really noncommittal rejection or a wait list status?

I have "really crazy busy" days, and then "kind of busy" days. On the really crazy busy days I find myself hoping I don't get any invites, because I don't have time to figure out my schedule and respond promptly. Today is a just a kind of busy day. Bring on the invites!!!

I'll be driving to many of my interviews, including making a trip from Chicago to Ohio, which I've driven before a few times. It's a pretty easy drive (especially if you're going to Dayton). I like the idea of driving because it gives you more control over when you get places, self-care along the way (gyms, healthy food options- including money-saving at grocery stores!-, cozy beds, ice cream stores.... 🙂 ). I've also found that a lot of times when people are stuck at airports, the roads are sometimes still passable.... and you don't have to fight the crowds trying to get an alternate flight. Just a thought!

I got that one last year from the Oklahoma HSC. I went ahead and ranked them. Supposedly, students not invited for an interview have matched with them in the past, but that wasn't the case for me. I got a similar one from another site this year and I plan on ranking them too. It can't hurt. Very good sites end up in Phase II every year, so it is definitely possible that they won't match with any of the applicants they invited for interviews.

I had a client no-show so now I'm just sitting in front of my computer refreshing my email. Need someone to show up today or I'll go crazy haha.

Does anyone know if the American Lakes VA will give any feedback about an applicant's status? In their brochure they state that they have an optional open house on January 7th, and that interviews are not part of the selection process. I didn't see any posted notifications for them in last year's thread on SDN. In the APPIC directory, they list 0 as the number of applicants invited for interviews each year. I really like the site and would enjoy learning more about it, but I don't want to spend money on travel, or schedule other interviews around it, unless I know something about my chances of actually matching.

Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC

Invite to open house via mass email on 12/9

Tracks mentioned in email: Health Psychology, Geropsychology, and Rehabilitation (I applied to Health)

Date of Open House: January 7

Email states that Open House is not required, but of course I'm going! And they ask for a reply to let them know if you'll be attending.

Thanks for bringing this up, I've been waiting on a response from them as well.

For people who are interviewing at Devereux PA, I confirmed my date on the phone and was told they'd email me a written confirmation...I have not gotten that email. Have you? Just trying to figure out if I should email them or not.

Same here. My Spam folder has never been as empty as it is now so I can almost guarantee I never received their wait list/rejection email.

I believe they invite their finalists to the open house. I'm waiting on them too and will email them if I don't hear anything on the 15th.

Unfortunately I cannot attend. Waiting to see the reply about a phone interview or some other way to be in touch with them.

I got an invite too, but for the mental health/general track (which will be on 1/9/14). Did everyone who applied get an invite?

I have not heard from them either way (applied for the health track). I don't know what that means for me, but for you it means that not everyone got an invite!

My understanding is they do not invite all of their applicants to the open house, but rather the applicants that are still in the running after a review of their AAPI.

I got an email that said Offers... it was for wigs- not interviews... I hate this!! How is that of 23 places I haven't heard zilch from 19!!! I have been 'grey-zoned' ( a term I made for school that have sent interviews and rejections but are giving me the silent treatment)... I know this should make me hopeful but please either break up with me or just ask me to prom already!!!
Seriously, ask me soon before I eat me my way through the stress and don't even fit into a prom dress anymore...

...if I used hashtags, this would be a hashtag moment.

Right there with you! I got an email last night that said, "A special invitation for you" or something to that effect and it was for a restaurant. These types of emails are just cruel jokes, Universe.

I'm in the same boat. I really want to visit their site, but have already committed to another site for that day (and bought a non-refundable plane ticket). Now I want a cookie... or 12. 🙁

Anyone know how much attendance at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA open house affects their rankings?
