Attempting to get a solid concise report of applicant statistics throughout the season on as many applicants as possible.
Feel free to upload your stats via the link below, definitely try and keep up with it as you go through the season. The goal is to help as many future applicants as we can. Thanks for the teamwork everyone.
Lets give a hand to polylux for making this link.

***Introduced several new columns devoted to the specifics of how many schools you applied to and how that relates to how many schools you were accepted to, please feel free to fill those in if you havent been to this thread in a while.

I started something similar to this a while back.

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/how-many-schools-are-you-applying-to.1008157/

Mostly on page 3.

Cycle isn't over yet and people don't feel comfortable sharing.
It has a few good nuggets in there, but its not like a nice concise place to refer to previous applicants. My hope would be that this would run like the Underdogs thread where, so far, the list has been consistently growing and has not strayed too far from the original point.

If I've learned anything about SDN, it's that things almost always stray far from the original point.

I'm going to start adding in people from this year's underdawg thread. Maybe someone can help me add in stats from last years thread? Then anyone can add their stats in. And if I can, I'll figure out how to set it so you can sort by a specific column...
dude technology is freaking crazy, that was so cool uploading stuff while you were putting stuff on there too... yea this is WAY better than my idea. If we could get this bad boy stickied, this would be an INCREDIBLE resource for future applicants.

I am confused by the "schools" section though...

It will be more intuitive once a few people have actually inputted stuff in. For now, see the "example" row.

Basically, under each school, you can say if you applied or not. You can then say how far you got with that school. It's a linear process, so if you got accepted, then obviously you applied, got a secondary, got an interview, attended the interview, and then got accepted. So you would just put "accepted" in your row under that school. If you only put "sec" for secondary, then you didn't get past the secondary. if you write "Int Inv" then you got the invite, but if you put "Int" then you've actually interviewed. Does that make sense?

Why is this thread unnecessary?
Because non-underdawgs post on underdawg thread anyways...

Er, sorry? If it makes you feel better, those hours all took a ton of work to rack up and I essentially had no social life to speak of outside one or two friends and a LDR for two years. I was on the edge of burnout for a year. I'm really not sure if it was worth it. But I was fighting my own depression at the time and the only thing that made me feel better was working... so I worked a lot.

No need to apologize, that's impressive as ****. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.

I volunteered at one place for 6 years and that makes up about half the service; I used to do public performances for charity, those numbers build up quick. The other half is because I was part of a service fraternity and was a super involved member, so I racked up a couple hundred service hours every semester, and then some.

My app kind of depends on those numbers. My PS basically tells about how I didn't know about medicine, but I knew I wanted to serve my community, and then slowly found my way to medicine through service, which is supported by my ECs. The clinical comes from working fulltime as a scribe while taking full time classes since I had to support myself through college. Unfortunately, that also means my main numbers are low, so I'm really hoping my ECs and PS combined will come through for me.

Go on...

I don't even know how to add up my numbers for clinical vs. service.

Would my EMS experience be clinical or service or both since it was volunteering?

I've also been working 50 hours a week since October so there's a couple hundred right there, and was required to do 250 hours of clinicals for medic class. So my numbers are rough estimates.

I think you will be great 🙂 Your MCAT is solid and your numbers aren't even that low. With all those hours you should be golden if you sell yourself right

I'm listing EMT as both. Also I love the profile pic haha.

Spreadsheet is soo rad. Thank you to whomever took the time to put that together. I have my own prospective school sheet and its a pain in the arse to keep up with, but so helpful to see the big picture!

I added my stats to the spreadsheet. Felt bad about adding my stuff to the underdawgs list because I feel extraordinarily average. Diggin' the thread!

Can we add a column for graduate degrees? MSc? MPH? PHds? I reckon those are also considered in the application (i.e. GPA)

Yeah, I can do that. Will add that in later today.

Yea exactly! Thats what this is for. I am sure there are plenty of underdogs and then plenty of really stellar applicants, but us average folk sort of had no place to go. Even in WAMC all you see is really low applicants asking for chances, or humble-braggers asking about their chances with a 3.9 and 35 MCAT. Obviously both of those are still more than welcome on the spreadsheet, thats the point, so we can get as many people as possible.

Maybe if we get enough people, and this thread stays alive, and people keep up with their part of the sheet (now that I am saying this, it sounds so unlikely haha) we could even have some basic statistics done deeper into the season. It would be sweet to be able to give more stats than AACOMAS does, since they definitely keep quiet about a lot of the stats.

Can you add the link to your original post so it's more easily accessible?

No idea, ha. You've been using this site longer than I have. I assume there are mods who can sticky the thread.

In the application, I don't remember, but I don't think it distinguishes between clinical hours and volunteering, just volunteer versus work, etc.

I don't think I put down the hours in my application because they were a part of various courses rather than "volunteering" in my mind. I'm sure you could, but I didn't.

Edit: Of course, put down the volunteering hours! I was speaking mostly of the clinical hours for class.

How about 15,000 😀 😀

Does anyone else have that dreadful feeling that you're going to suck and fail and no med school with want you even though you've been trying so hard for so long?

I just practically failed a gross anatomy exam. The sympathetic nervous system swallowed me and spit me out with digestive enzymes all over my hair.

Could a note be added onto the spreadsheet to add listings in alphabetical order? Things would get a bit hairy without the organization.

It's fine. I've been going in to reorder the list. It's easy to do in a spread sheet.

What happens if someone just trolls and deletes it all?

Is there anyway to make it so each persons row is linked to a seperate spreadsheet file, in which they can edit, and then make the main file un-editable?

Don't want to see the hard work go to waste is all

Someone with the name of "RickRoss" just posted on the document with a 3.7/3.5/38.....re-defining the definition of a "shoe-in"

Can high MCAT make up for low GPA? My cGPA is 3.42 and sGPA 3.40, and my MCAT is at 37 (14/11/12). Also, I'm international (Canadian, specifically). How does my chance look at schools like MSU, Western (top 2 choices)?

That would take a lot of effort. I could make it so the spreadsheet itself isn't editable but people can fill in a form than then populates the spreadsheet... But, eh. I'll just periodically make a backup copy. I don't want to be stuck updating it.

37 MCAT, why are you applying DO?! That is MD level! You Canadians are a weird people with your igloos..

What in the world is going on?

I've seen 4 people this month with a 36+ MCAT but low to average GPA saying they are going to apply DO.

Maybe they actually just like the DO school...? Maybe they're just all Texas residents.

MSU has a specific program with Canadian students. Like a certain amount of seats are reserved for Canadian students.

Sounds fake... how is that possible?
7000+ hours in a sport (national level track and field, plenty of titles/awards, some records etc) that I started in high school ish and carried onto some of 2nd year undergrad.
7000+ hours of elite level powerlifting, national records and a world record.
1000 or so hours mix of clinical volunteering (palliative care), couple leadership stuff/volunteering, coaching, little bit of shadowing, and couple small other things.

Actually probably more like 15500 to be more accurate.

15,000 hours is about 7 hours/day, everyday, for 6 years. No medical school is going to believe this even if it's actually true.

Not that this isn't impressive, but the hours in the two sports isn't really relevant in research, service, or clinical experience...

added my info to the spreadsheet, pretty interesting, good idea
