Yeah...I think it was this time last year that I got my 1st grey hair and lived on Pepcid:bang:. This year it will be nice to sit back and watch :corny:. I think without Asmall child and DermViser I would have felt like this :diebanana:throughout the process.. Good luck everyone!

A lot of the process involves good/realistic advising, starting early, hard work, keeping a good attitude no matter what frustration or adversity, perseverance, prayer (if you believe in that), and although I hate to say it, a little bit of luck and serendipity in meeting and networking with the right people. Unless, of course, you're related or married to a derm faculty member. In that case, you don't need all that, and then you're pretty much set.

Derm can afford to be choosy with who they select. You'll be amazed by how a hobby or another characteristic can appeal more to a faculty member to remember you more than anything else. I think it helps to remember that going for Derm and being unmatched can easily happen to anyone. Then once you match into NYU (apparently the #1 program according to Doximity) you can pretend how you totally deserved and earned your spot and never had any doubt.

The aforementioned list of dermatology residency programs require updating. Several important programs are not listed including the following in the greater Dallas, Texas, area. This is a solid program with a world renown Program Director, Alan Mentor.

Baylor University Medical Center Program
Baylor University Medical Center Dermatology Residency
Texas Dermatolology Associates
3900 Junius Street, Suite 145
Dallas, TX 75246

Baylor University Medical Center Program (also known as Baylor Health Care System) is now a part of Baylor Scott & White Health system. UT Southwestern is just around the corner. Both are super residency programs. Dermatology is a super competitive field. Good Luck, everyone!

It's not a comprehensive list. It's a list of interviews offered last season posted as they were received by forum posters. It is possible that no posters here were offered an interview from Baylor medical center program. Or maybe they did but did not want to post it.

Either way I'm sure both those programs are very good. Thanks.

Today is October 1st, which means that our Dean's Letters have been released, and hopefully, interview invites will be sent in the near future.

I noticed that on the anesthesia board they are using a single GoogleDoc to track interview invites and rejections. So, in order to keep things orderly--and since I am a bored MS4--I made a doc. The first sheet lists invites and the second sheet lists rejections. If you are the first person to get an invite or rejection, you can anonymously add it to the document. Also, if you are interested, the third page allows posters to anonymously post their stats, this way future applicants have more information to gauge the strength of their

Just as an aside -- many of the Derm residency websites list the day(s) they are interviewing this year as well.

It looks like RadOnc, another field that tends to not send invites until after the dean's letter, is starting to send them out. Maybe derm invites will be sent out soon! I realize this is wishful thinking, but waiting is so difficult

have gotten a few emails from ERAS from derm programs, get excited at the prospect of it being an interview, turns out its only programs asking additional questions lol

I joined bc no one else posted about it. I was trying to be helpful- maybe invites will go out earlier this year. I forgot about the google doc and saw it was added to that as well. Check out the website.

It says interview invites would go out around this time

Just unusual, bc last year, all the interview dates were in January. This year, I guess, all the interview dates are in October/November. Don't know why a program would interview so early before Thanksgiving.

There are programs that are nice enough to tell the exact dates they are interviewing in the cycle on their website.

According to the invite email, they had a lot of weather related travel problems last year. They wanted to interview earlier in the year to avoid people being trapped by snow!

He is correct. Interview invites went out on the 7th. Not a troll.

Guys, remember there are waves. I looked at last years and there are definitely dates I received invites after what was posted.

--Sometimes programs have different readers for a block of candidates; some readers are faster than others
--Sometimes programs invite rotators and home students first; then send out invites after
--Sometimes your mentor calls a program or that program calls your mentor to discuss candidates from your school and you get brought up prompting an invite 1-2 weeks after the first wave goes out

These are all things that happened to me. And, you are not at the bottom of the barrel. Programs are absolutely overwhelmed by all of you overachievers with 250+'s, great grades and tons of pubs and a year off and a glowing rec from some big name. Just too many. Get to the interview and know how to sell yourself.

Umm you said people shouldn't believe they're at the bottom of the barrel and then immediately proceeded to say programs are overwhelmed by tons of 250+ overachievers. #contradictioninterms #chilax

There's a huge spectrum between a 250+ and a bottom of the barrel so to speak.

The presumption here was that the people worrying are some of those 250ers.

if invites come out in waves, how long should we wait after the initial date before we contact programs expressing interest?

Personally, I would argue that you should never do that. Others may have differing opinions.

I very much agree with GWDS, I would never contact programs themselves to say you're interested in their program. They already know - they have your application. It's different if a home faculty member calls them to extend you an interview but 1) that's risky in itself and 2) even if a courtesy interview is given it doesn't mean anything in terms of being ranked, they may just give it to you to shut up the person who called on your behalf. At least when they give you an interview on their own you know it's genuine.

I think candidates who are couple matching have a better yield at this. I have heard some successful stories of getting interviews.

Does anyone know if UMichigan has a 2 day interview (12/12-12/13) or is it just back to back? http://www.med.umich.edu/derm/education/app.shtml
Probably only 1 since it says "Interview date" and "Typically, tours and useful information are provided on Friday afternoon and a dinner with current residents is held on Friday evening. Interview day begins early on Saturday and lasts all day, with each applicant meeting individually with many interviewers."

12th - Friday
13th - Saturday

Thank you Patsy for such an awesome idea. For those who are applying also please fill the Stats page on the Google Doc so students have an idea of what is involved in applying.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience on prelim program interviews? Some prelim medicine programs have sent me a "provisional" interview, saying if I receive an interview for the advanced program (i.e. derm), then they will interview me as well for a prelim spot. So do those interviews typically happen on the same day or would it usually be a next day type thing? Does it vary among the programs?

University of Washington rejection via ERAS 10/17

Per UW's website, it looks like apps were due today. It seems strange that they would send out rejections on the same day. Did anyone else get a rejection in ERAS?
