1. Given the mission statement of the school, please explain how your experiences and long term goals would help meet the mission.

2. Given the diversity statement of the school, explain how your background and experiences with diversity will bring value to the school.

3. Describe how your experiences in health care or social care activities will help you become a good physician.

4. Briefly describe a crisis or significant challenge in your life, how you have worked through the crisis or challenge, and what you have learned from this experience.

5. What are your career plans in the event that you are not admitted to a medical school this year or after several applications?

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

How much is the secondary? Does anyone know? Is anyone out there?

I got the rejection email from Sanford and have appealed since I did previously live in South Dakota. Fingers crossed that they give me a chance!

Best of luck on the appeal. What's your residence status now?

Did they tell you why you were rejected? Do they not accept OOS?

Very unfriendly to out of state, with the exception of those who can prove strong state ties.

I got an email saying I was placed in priority pool while the secondary is being "revised", and that it would be sent to me before the end of August. I received the email 8/19 (yesterday).

It's sort of weird that they do interviews in two towns. Driving probably won't be fun. I'll try to let you know how it goes!
Where are you doing your interviews? I am Sioux Falls first then I believe everyone does the second one in Vermillion.

Born & raised South Dakotan here; USD is the only place I'm applying (this round). I'm just about to submit my primary application-- any ideas on how to subtly mention that renovating and buying a house on a deadline really delayed things?:smack: Just kidding, but do we really do two interviews? Or are we just given options for the city? Good luck on your interviews guys!

My first interview is in Vermillion and my second is in Sioux Falls, which is pretty nice because I go to school in Omaha.
And pandadawn, they pick the location for the two interviews. Good luck with the process!

How early did those of you who received interviews apply? I submitted my application in June and have heard from other schools and sent in secondaries to many others, but haven't heard a single word from USD. I am a SD resident so I'm not sure why I haven't heard back from them. I am concerned something went wrong with USD receiving my application (if that is even possible).

I applied at USD in early July. Contact Jill Christopherson and she can check on your application for you. She's super chill and will be happy to help.

Would you please post the secondary questions for SSOM for the 2014-2015 application? Thank you.

I would like to second the request for posting the secondary questions.

I would let you guys know what they are, but I cannot access the secondary application portal anymore and I didn't write them down. Sorry!

Hey all, how soon did you receive either a request for a secondary or a rejection?

Complete in late August. I was contacted for an interview in mid-September.

Got an email today asking to verify my address! Hope everyone else is having luck. (If anyone even looks at this anymore.)

When did you complete your secondary? (And yay! 🙂)

Is anyone else interviewing in February? I interview Feb. 10th

I interviewed in early January, and I just got notified to anticipate paperwork in the mail. Good luck, rock your interview!

Awesome, will you be attending in the fall then? Mind telling me how your interview went? Any questions you felt were quite difficult or odd? Thanks!

The interviews were very relaxed (and being my first and only interviews I was nervous!). I interviewed with an MD and a PhD. The MD focused more on my clinical side and CNA experience while the PhD asked about my research. Both also talked about real life stuff too though, just to get a feel of who I am. Hobbies, last book I purchased, etc. They did a great job at explaining how the curriculum worked and how the overall admissions process continued after interviews.
As for questions, nothing really odd. They did inquire (a bit jokingly) about a hiccup on my transcript, but I took responsibility and told them what had happened. Nothing off the wall and it all went fairly smoothly. The only thing I can say is know your own application very well (this sounds odd, but think about how long it's been since you've actually gone through it waiting for interviews and such) as they do definitely read them and talk to you about specifics. Be yourself, show your genuine interest, and you'll be just fine!
If you have any other questions shoot me a PM. Hope to see you this fall!

Is anyone else waiting to hear back after the big Feb-28th meeting?? :bucktooth:

I heard a rumor that they had another meeting on the 2nd. So I'm not expecting to hear this week...but it would be nice

Ooh! I forgot about that. I think I will, just to mingle... I'm waitlisted, but definitely going if accepted.

Hi Everyone,

Quick question on residency since it seem like it is a crucial selection criterion. I'm a 3rd year CA resident attending undergrad in CA. My parents had just moved to SD about a month ago, and I will join them as soon as I graduate on June 16'. My question is, if I am planning on applying June 2017, how could I prove to the school that I will, at that point, be an SD resident/ residing in the state for a year. Also, do I have to get a job and file state tax during the 2017 tax season?

You are definitely going to be at a disadvantage compared to an identical applicant who grew up in SD, but I don't know how they would treat your future residency. I would call them now and ask how your application would be considered. It would be a good way to open up a dialogue and express your interest in the school. Explain and stress that you are planning on spending the rest of your life until you die in South Dakota. Tell them you want to be burried in South Dakota. The in-state preference is not a joke.

Anyone heard of anyone getting in off the waitlist yet?
