Does SUNY Downstate have a waitlist too? Or is hold their equivalent?

Does SUNY Downstate have a waitlist too? Or is hold their equivalent?

"Hold for Spring Consideration" is essentially the same as a waitlist. I believe that I've seen a small number of people get accepted of Hold for Spring Consideration between January and May, but waitlist movement at that point is unlikely. After May 15th, however, Downstate turns to the Hold for Spring Consideration list (AKA waitlist) to fill the remaining spots in the class. Don't be discouraged as there was a good amount of waitlist movement at Downstate last year. I was amongst those that got the call after May 15th! 👍

Put on hold today. Interviewed 11/4.
Hmm that seems fast. When I interviewed last Monday, I heard that it would take 7-8 weeks to hear back. Anyone get an acceptance that fast? Or maybe bad news comes faster than good news?

Also on hold today, interviewed early november. Has downstate stopped using the alternate list or is that still to come in the spring?

ACCEPTED VIA SNAIL MAIL! First acceptance, and from a school close to home too. Soooooooooo excited right now. Interviewed last week of October.
Congratulations...Quick question..Do they also notify the acceptances by email or some other means. Or is it just snail mail. As I have seen postings where in folks also recd a notification of acceptances by email as a followup to the snail mail.

Congratulations on the acceptances guys!! I interviewed the last week of October.... hoping there's something waiting in my mailbox for me when I get home

Does anyone know how an acceptance into their MPH program affects your chances at their MD program? I know they say each admissions process is completely separate but is there any correlation between both programs?

I'm wondering this too.
I got a snail mail today for my acceptance into their MPH program. Unfortunately I got post-interview hold for MD, and I surely freaking hope that acceptance into MPH will help with MD acceptance...

I only got snail mail.

I received an acceptance letter for Downstate's MPH program, but haven't even received an II from the MD program. I understand that the admissions processes are separate, but this seems odd to me...

+1

I am sorry in advance if this was asked before. But is SUNY Downstate receptive to update letters? If so, send them through email?

Thank you!

I'm in the exact same boat. Really hoping this means an II could be on it's way after the holidays!!

I got into the MPH program! That is exciting. Hopefully the MD acceptance comes along!!

I interviewed the last week of October and expected to hear back the end of last week like the others on this thread who interviewed around then.

I didn't receive an email or a letter... Should I call and inquire if a decision has been made on my file and I just didn't receive it? Or, just try and be patient and wait to see? Don't want to bother the admissions office, but I'm starting to get anxious...

In the same boat here. Any other news from people who interviewed on/around October 30? Starting to grow anxious because I've heard nothing.

I would personally wait a while longer before bothering to contact them.. When I interviewed I was told to expect a wait of up to 8 weeks.. If you get past the 2 month mark and still no word, then you might want to give them a quick call if you feel like it.

Agreed. I interviewed mid-September and didn't hear back until mid-November, so it can definitely take some time to hear back post-interview.

Thanks, I'll wait to contact them. Just a little nerve-racking that other people who interviewed the same day as me and after have heard back already. Oh well.. the waiting game continues

Sorry about that guys, and equally sorry to be the annoying person that asks if any of you were complete in early Sep or after

No love from NY 🙁 really stings following stony brook...
+7 damn I'm really disappointed by this one, this is the SUNY I really wanted. LM ~65, complete late August (pre-II rejection, assuming everyone else is as well)
never got a hold, thought that was a good sign 🙁

Rejected pre-interview as well... Complete late August. This one hurts but I guess this is life.

+11 Rejected pre-II, complete 9/8 OOS. Good luck to everyone else.

Any non URM's with a 29 MCAT get into Downstate? I already had my interview earlier this month but I just noticed the MSAR says that the bottom 10th percentile for MCAT here is a 30... Does that mean I basically have no chance?

Rejection today! Really burns after getting their MPH acceptance last week. Thought that was a sign of good things to come. NY state resident. Complete early September. Good luck to everyone else! Downstate is a fantastic school!

I think you definitely have a chance. By definition, if the 10th percentile is a 30, then the 1st-9th percentile are below 30. Also, the MSAR numbers are for all students accepted to a particular school, not just the ones who matriculate, so they may tend to be skewed upward a bit. Keep the hope alive, getting an interview is a big step towards an acceptance!

Thank you, you're right, I should just stay positive. Based on what I've heard, it seams like there is a lot of movement off the wait list, which to me implies that there are a large number of people who get accepted but then matriculate elsewhere which could mean that you are also correct about the numbers being slightly skewed upwards for Downstate.
