May be longer, depending on when - it took them at least 10 weeks to get back to me.
 
I'm sitting at about 7 weeks post-interview with no news.
 
Omg i am so nervous i really belong here!!! I haven't heard anything yet i completed secondaries early october so i think i wont hear anything till next year.
 
Interviewed yesterday and wad told 8-10 weeks. So basically it's gonna take 12 weeks.

It seems that we are interested in the same schools. What was your interview day like? Mine was pretty much in and out. And congrats on your acceptance.

Yep pretty much. Went around 11, got a lecture from the dean, wrote the essay had lunch, went to respective interviews and that was it. Pretty laid back. And thanks, feels n. Hopefully you're just waiting for an acceptance letter at this point!
 
Received an II a couple days ago! Very excited/ nervous since this is my first II. IS applicant, LizzyM ~66. So far I'm 1:1 for II's/ rejections, so that's good I suppose. Interview scheduled for December 8th. Good luck to people still waiting!

Anyone else interviewing on Nov 12th? Hope to see some of ya'll there!

Is there anything I need to take (besides pen and notepad)? Approximately what time is the day over, my interview is at 1 pm.

Sure thing, I received the "application complete" email in early October.

Anyone know if I should expect to get a confirmation of my confirmation of the II?
 
II today. Was given a prearranged interview date which was 12/10. Can't make it and likely will withdrew to give the spot to someone else. Completed last day in July. LizzyM>76
EDIT: just withdrew. Hope the spot can be useful to you guys.

Does anybody know if SUNY Downstate is receptive to update letters? I cannot find that information on their website. Thank you!!!
Also, does anybody know about what percentage of out of state students are accepted? Thank you.

I brought nothing and was fine. You can print out a copy of your invite or have it ready on your phone for the security officer. Your interview will run an hour, and you'll be able to head out around 2:30ish. My interview was at 1 pm also, and I remember getting out at around that time.

Yep - they told me I'd hear in 8-12 weeks, and I heard near the tail end.
 
Received an interview for December 17. Completed secondary back on October 23. IS.
 
Anyone have any advice on what hotel to stay at?

In that case, you can certainly call and ask when you can expect to hear, given that it's surpassed the 6 week mark.

Not really sure about hotels around here, but the school does offer a student host program. If you email/call admissions they'll find a host for you in the residence halls across the street, and of course it doesn't hurt that it's free. You'll also get a better sense for student life here if you go that route.
 
Has anyone called or asked about their policy/feelings regarding update letters and letters of intent?
 
Got an e-mail today stating that my application had gone through a preliminary review and asking me to send them a copy of my transcript with an updated summer course grade before a decision is made. Complete 10/6. Any idea if this is a good sign?
 
They asked me for spring grades, since I'm on a quarter system and didn't have that in my AMCAS, in early september and I got an interview invite a couple weeks after if that helps!
 
For people asking about update letters... I call today, they said they accept them. Just email them to the admissions office.
 
Hey! I had a few questions if anyone can answer any of them. Is there a second look day or anything for accepted students in the spring? Do students use a Simulation Center/standardized patients for clinical skills? I don't remember seeing anything on the tour. And how easy is it for students to get involved with research?

I think it can be - they asked for mine just before I was accepted, and I've heard similar stories, but I can't promise anything.

I don't know about second look day, since I was accepted so late, sorry. Maybe @elprezidente can say?
I don't actually know what simulation center you're talking about. We learn clinical skills on each other first (except the pelvic & breast exams, which are only done on SPs), and then throughout the year have various opportunities to practice interviews on SPs. I know we'll have exams, both history-taking and physical exams, which use SPs; other than that, it's mostly practicing on each other/family members/friends/etc.
Lots of students do research over the summer between MS1 & MS2. There are opportunities to get involved during the year - I know some people who started doing research in the first month, a few more who are looking to start research now-ish, but I'd say most people who want to do research are planning to do it over the summer (although many then continue into MS2 and beyond). It's not such a research-intensive school, but the opportunities are definitely there if you want to get involved, and I've found faculty to be very helpful!

@Keladry is always on point with her responses. I agree with all that she said. Personally, I will be getting started on the research front within the next few weeks, after this next round of exams. Just as @Keladry said, there are tons of opportunities to get involved in research. We have a thriving basic neuroscience department here, and plenty of people have already gotten involved in clinical research in a number of specialities (ie. ortho). I agree with the statement on clinical skills. We learn clinical skills in our carrels, which you were probably shown on your tour. I'd just like to add that we have preceptorships (active shadowing) in which we get to practice the clinical skills that we've learned on non-SPs in clinical scenarios. I've been placed in the Downstate ED and have gotten to perform numerous cardiac, abdominal, & pulmonary exams, as well as taken full patient histories.

With regard to a second look day, there is a pseudo-second look day in which you can shadow a student for a day, which serves as a second look. You attend classes with the student, get an idea of what our classes are structured, and, more generally, what a day here is like. I didn't do it personally, but a few people that I know did and thought that it was a great experience. I was accepted later in the cycle, but if you're accepted already or in the near future, I believe they send the information about the program starting in January and the day is usually in March, if I'm not mistaken.

I asked about sim lab. Basically they use real patients and each other to practice lmao so awesome. But they are getting a sim lab with the new building next year.

Do they email or call you with the status after the interview?
 
I was put on hold for spring review. Anyone know what if there is a chance to get an interview or are they just prolonging the inevitable with that?
 
Accepted sometime in the last few days. I interviewed way back in mid-September, so don't worry if you have interviewed and haven't heard back yet.

I got email acceptance about 6 weeks after interview. Followed up by regular mail. I think acceptances are slowing down now since they are beginning to fill their class. Not my choice school but better than nothing.

There are pleeeeeenty more acceptances to come, especially given that you're not the only one who feels that way, so as people get accepted to other schools, more spots here open up 😉

Downstate's got at least a couple of more waves of acceptances coming through January. Schools always over-accept. There is still plenty of hope.
