I think it can be - they asked for mine just before I was accepted, and I've heard similar stories, but I can't promise anything.

I don't actually know what simulation center you're talking about. We learn clinical skills on each other first (except the pelvic & breast exams, which are only done on SPs), and then throughout the year have various opportunities to practice interviews on SPs. I know we'll have exams, both history-taking and physical exams, which use SPs; other than that, it's mostly practicing on each other/family members/friends/etc.
Lots of students do research over the summer between MS1 & MS2. There are opportunities to get involved during the year - I know some people who started doing research in the first month, a few more who are looking to start research now-ish, but I'd say most people who want to do research are planning to do it over the summer (although many then continue into MS2 and beyond). It's not such a research-intensive school, but the opportunities are definitely there if you want to get involved, and I've found faculty to be very helpful!
