Situation is vastly different. Your mcat redeems you completely.

I have decent ECs. My I have solid grades but a dip junior year that curves upward my senior year. I was a scholarship football player for a d1 program and have worked in a research lab for around a year for 30 hours/week.(2 papers should be published by july; one as primary author) I also worked in a cadaver lab for 6 months, in addition to a job at a government human nutrition center for 10 hours a week for the past 1.5 years. Solid letters including one from a DO.

Join the club, my final semester was awful due to a combination of factors. But I imagine if your gpa is strong otherwise you'll manage.

Question for underdogs:

My application is ready to go, but I just recently found out there is an online course that would count as a retake for the lowest grade I've ever gotten (D-). should I take this course then apply? It would push back my primary intil the end of july but would bring my gpa from a 3.1 up to a 3.2

Not that big of a jump. Just apply and take a course. It'll be good in case you need to write an LOI.

I see that @AlbinoHawk DO already responded to your question. Don't you think that a jump from 3.1 to 3.2 would be better though considering a July primary is still considered early? Just wondering. I would think that it would. Also, since you have a 31 MCAT, I am sure you will be fine with the late July primary.
 
Forgive me for my cluelessness, but is there any regional bias that could offset the low stats at least in a minor fashion? I'm a WI resident and the only school thats really close is CCOM but I feel as if it would take more than regional bias for me to be accepted there.
Or does any bias extend from ohio, michigan, iowa towards wisco?

There seems to be a regional bias for almost every schools (VCOM especially). But, the only school that has the least regional bias seems to be NOVA with almost 49% OOS matriculants.

Again forgive my ignorance, I have found the matriculant data by in-state versus OOS but, i've struggled finding information regarding neighboring states or what defines a schools "regional preference"

I would love to know where I can find out more about each schools regional/state bias given that I am a California applicant. So far it appears I have to go to each schools website, which is rather frustrating.

Well, primary at the end of July implies that the transcript and verification process won't start until then. Add to that 4-6 weeks and you're in September by the time your primary is in. Add another week for secondaries to be mailed to you. Assuming you have everything pre-written, that means around mid-September for everything to be completed and being at the bottom of the pile. For a 0.1 increase with an application that will still be an underdog would yield minimum benefit. If you're really underdawging it, you want to be ready from day 1.

There is no credible source to find such information. Visiting each school's website and their mission is the best source to give you an idea. The whole "regional bias" does not appear often as it is something the schools rather not admit.

Agreed! There was a spreadsheet on here with some of the info that I know I downloaded, but ended up having to check because there were some schools not noted as having regional bias that did. It was a good jumping off point!

Off the top of my head I believe the following have a regional bias: TCOM (separate app), Rowan, Western U, VCOMS (Appalachian region), PNWU, Unecom, and CCOM.
 
Do you guys think PNWU regional bias includes California? Honestly in the end I think I am just going to bite the bullet and apply to 20 or so schools. I dont want to do this again.

unfortunately, none that I know of favoring WI. I would throw in these schools: NSU, ACOM, LMU, LUCOM, Touro-NV, Touro-NY, Touro-Ca, CUSOM, MUCOM, PNWU, SOMA, KCOM, PCOM-Ga, LECOM-E, KYCOM, WVSOM, and VCOM-Auburn (assuming they open for this cycle). For best results, apply as soon as the clock starts ticking.

Thanks I appreciate the list. I am definitely going to have my apps out early, not the first day unfortunately but within the first week. Stupid Community College is taking their sweet time sending out my transcript.

that list was directed towards bowser20. for you, I would be comfortable applying anywhere except CCOM or KCUMB

Ugh this is so frustrating, is your application almost done? I still have to copy over everything from my AMCAS app, not sure if I should do it now or wait until after my MCAT...
 
So is everyone taking advantage of the "glitch" and submitting before June 3rd??
