2014-2015 Waitlist Support Group

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Okay dude, how about you relax??

No need to freak out. I was pointing out how rude it was that guys were STILL asking gyngyn about individual waitlists, even though he already stated that he would update daily if there was any waitlist movement. Learn to be patient and less entitled. Lots of other users here are on the waitlist and know not to badger an adcom about their personal situation.

Last time I checked, my initial question was directed to gyngyn so how about you mind your business.

Sorry about that gyn gyn; thanks for all your help. Being on the waitlist is def not a fun thing.

lol this is a public message board. And judging from all the "likes" my previous reply received, I'm not the only one who thinks you're being obnoxious.

lol...you're a troll. You remind me of that annoying bug that refuses to go away.

I don't think you know what that word means.

And I don't know why you're being so defensive about this. Just understand that others watching this thread are grateful for gyngyn taking time out of his day to post updates - don't bother him further, especially when he's already said not to.

just found this thread! does anyone know if there is any movement at OSU or wright state?

Today belongs to UCI, and how!
Has the UCI Alt list moved? No one on the UCI thread seem to know for sure..apart from the fact that they might have sent acceptances to a larger number of folks from the later interview dates who were not on the alternate list or any status after the interview. UCI did send out mail yesterday to the alternate list folks (not sure if it was for all on the list) asking if they would still be interested in staying on the Alt list. Apart from that ...nadda.
But do appreciate all the help you providing on this thread. Keep it going.

Hi gyngyn,
Thanks for keeping all of us updated everyday! Do you mean that some of your accepted students received an acceptance to UCI today or do you speculate that there will be some acceptances coming out today? Thanks again!

From the various victories celebrated by @nOchemallday @Temerit @DoctorLacrosse and others, it goes to show that after the Apr. 30 deadline, those on the waitlists have a very strong chance in being accepted from the waitlist (especially those trapped in 3 or more waitlists).

Congrats on the first acceptances everyone, and to the rest, the good news is just around the corner.:clap::clap::clap:

We can see results for anyone we interviewed (even if I were at UCI!).

Any info on whether there has been WL movement at Columbia or Yale??

On the WL at Case Western, Northwestern, and SLU... If anyone hears from Case UT let me know! I know the other 2 wait lists have moved but I don't think Case has.
No acceptances 🙁

I believe you have two weeks since you were just accepted from the waitlist, no?

Probably different since it's waitlist. Consider someone who gets off the waitlist a week before classes, they wouldn't let you hold until the day before, they gotta fill those spots.

Actually according to AAMC traffic rules, students accepted off the waitlist at this point should have a minimum of 5 days to respond.

has anyone detected any waitlist movement for UVM? Seems to be absolutely none so far this year.

Ah I saw new post from ski89 on my alerts and got so pumped... rooting for you ski!

Just joining this thread. WL at Georgetown, West Virginia, Quinnipiac, Ohio University, and should hear back from a late interview at the end of May. Hoping for some luck!

Dang good luck!! Where was your late interview if you don't mind sharing?

Is it just me, or does it seem incredibly quiet at most schools this year? No movement from my waitlist yet....
It definitely seems that way. I'm just hoping a lot of the adcoms forgot that the traffic deadline is earlier this year. Although I'm laughing to myself for even thinking that because it's so unlikely.

Jeez, I feel like this whole process is messing with my sanity. It's hard to get myself ready to reapply this cycle.

Yeah... only 1 person has gotten off of my waitlist as far as I can tell. :|

I work with a good number of medical students and many of them had a "was accepted June/July off waitlist" story to my nearby school, definitely a small number but kept my hope slightly alive lol.

Btw @BeachBlondie I remember you being quite active on the MCAT message boards during Summer 2013 and then again January 2014 (when I took my test lol) refreshing seeing a familiar user! I'm more of a lurker so I never posted much. Wish you the best for the cycle!

So does that mean there isn't much significance to May 15 this year for movement?

I did read somewhere that a lot of schools financial aid departments did not move up to the new April 30th deadline so maybe there still is significance to May 15th.

Lol so this seems to actually be true based on my n=1. I literally just got off the phone with an ADCOM to discuss my application for next cycle and they were 100% under the impression you could hold multiple acceptances until May 15th.

Not going to lie that is a bit disturbing that they didn't realize that. Honestly though, I can believe it.

That is profoundly annoying...

Are you sure you were speaking to someone that actually was involved in the process or was it a random office staffer?

I mean I had to make that appointment a week in advance, and was told it was with an ADCOM. That's all I got, take it for what it is worth.

On a different note, what exactly enforces the fact you have to only hold one acceptance at this date? AFAIK, AMCAS doesn't like call you telling you have to drop x or z because it is now after April.

wow, if true

i don't see why the financial aid people messing up the deadline would have any impact. you're supposed to drop all schools but 1 after april 30, so unless admissions offices are being very forgiving...

The AAMC doesn't strictly enforce the rule -- their language makes it seems as if it is more of a suggested deadline. Each school is responsible for instating a hard cut-off.

As far as the financial aspect is concerned, and for my particular school-in-question, today is the financial deadline for accepted students to make a down payment for tuition. If those students do NOT make the down payment in time, then they are automatically dropped from the class. So, some students may be holding onto a seat--for one unknown reason or another--with no intention to attend; after today, their position will be freed up.

My best guess is that many admissions committees don't feel comfortable opening up the waitlist until they have a better idea of how many positions they need to fill -- that number solidifies after today (at least, for my school).
