Still waiting on that secondary invite...got 'em all pre-written and everything =/

just got the rejection via snail mail 🙁

on the bright side, i was too burnt out to prewrite wayne state's secondary hah

woops, looks like i'm joining you, buddy. found the envelope waiting for me at home. (3.3 cGPA, 31 MCAT, and an MPH, just in case anyone's interested in basic stats)

best of luck to you all!

I was surprised by the pre-secondary snail mail reject letter I got from them. I'm 3.58 cGPA/35 MCAT and in-state. Is this normal? This is the only school (out of 25) that I didn't get a secondary from. My research/clinical volunteer work/jobs are pretty decent....

Anyone else surprised by their pre-secondary rejection from Wayne State?

Edit: just got the reject letter this AM, 08/26/14. AMCAS was verified in mid-july.

Just to double check, we're supposed to submit our secondary materials via email right? Approximately how long is the turnaround time?

That's really odd. Any red flags?

But seriously: also just a bit surprised in my case (their snail mail rejection hurts more this year than it did for me last year), but it's difficult not to be surprised when we don't know what goes on in those admissions meetings, or when so many schools have a different process. just keep putting your best foot forward at all the other opportunities you have, i suppose.

Not any that I'm aware off. My sGPA was only 3.48, and I had a B- in one semester of biology. But I thought my MCAT would make up for that (11/11/13)....

They sent me a confirmation I was complete one business day later.

Received a pre-secondary rejection letter in the mail today. Canadian applicant, LizzyM ~71

Oddly enough, I was rejected by snail mail today too and my stats are nearly identical to yours...

Wow, did not realize Wayne screens so harshly for their secondaries

I submitted mine 3 days ago, weird.

I suppose they might have screened the sGPA, but mine is only just above 3.5. I was rejected pre-screen last year, but they told me that my 1st mcat was the major factor for it. It's strange that they straight up passed on your score.

How does Wayne look at retaking the mcat? I took it this summer and did poorly (7/7/8) and am not applying this cycle. I will retake it in January. If I do decently (28+), will Wayne judge me harshly since I did poor on my first app? I have strong LORs, decent ec's, gpa 3.72, sGPA 3.71 and IS.

When the mail lady comes...I am terrified to check, in fear of receiving a small envelope... =/:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

Did anyone get a complete e-mail after submitting the secondary through e-mail?

Given your low mcat score, it would make sense to retake it. Obviously, you would want to do better, and not worse, but you should try to get at least a 30+ if possible.

Did anyone else on this thread receive a II from the school? if so, when did you receive the secondary complete e-mail?

Yea that's what I'm aiming for. I signed up for a Princeton course hoping it can get me to that score. Thanks and good luck to you

I called to ask about this and they're running a few days behind I think. If you've been waiting for weeks I'd give them a call but if it's less than a week or so I would wait.

I know people who took the MCAT five times to get the score they wanted. I really don't think Wayne looks at retakes harshly. In fact it seems to be your best option for strengthening your application at this point so you might as well not even question how schools will view it and just go for that retake.

Did they say anything about when more would be coming out? Next week maybe?

Does anyone know how many LOR wayne accepts?

This is from previous year's secondary.

A statement from the Pre-Medical Advisory Committee at your college or university, or, if non-existent, three letters of recommendation with at least two from faculty. One must have been written within the past 12 months. If you are in a post baccalaureate or graduate program, you must submit at least one letter from your post baccalaureate or graduate program. The Committee prefers no more than six letters. All must be submitted through AMCAS.

Perhaps someone who received a secondary this year can let you know as well.

Mine was verified late August and I received a secondary application, then interview for Nov. pretty soon.
Hey Anthrax, Do you remember the date when you received your interview invite following the submission of your secondary application? Thank you by the way for all your advise and answers on this thread and that of last year, they have been very helpful!

Here's my timeline:
Secondary Invite: 10/3/13 (submitted within a few days)
Interview Invite: 10/22/13 (interview in early Nov.)
Decision Date: 11/27/13

Hope that helps. Although they may take time to send the secondary application, the process afterward might just be quite quick. On your behalf, try to send in the required materials as early as possible and completed as best as possible.

Hey @Anthrax, thanks for all the info! Any idea if Wayne has started to send II for this cycle or when the first interview day is?

I called them yesterday and they said they're sending out a batch of II's this week. Sadly, I wasn't on the list for this week 🙁

Agreed, but I just assume my rejection is in the mail.

Fellow Canadian here and I felt the same way. Just received a secondary invitation about an hour ago and my stats are not that impressive. LizzyM is 69/70.

If it helps, it's been a month since I applied to Wayne.

Does anyone know who interviews you here typically? Is it like an admissions officer/physician/med student or can it be anyone?
Just wondering!

Interview invite this morning! LizzyM=72. Secondary application completed second week of August. This is my first MD interview invite! I'm so pumped.

Edit: IS student

I was complete on 8/19. No II yet... blah. I would really like to go here. IS, LM~69.

Complete 8/20, I feel ya bud. Would love the opportunity to interview here.

It can be faculty, an administrator, or a medical student. I believe if you are interviewed by a medical student, there is a second non-student interviewer as well.

I feel like such an idiot. I submitted 8/19 without including my transaction receipt number.... I'd been waiting and waiting for a confirmation email and nothing had come. Ugh... I re-submitted it today, hopefully they will still consider me even though I'm way out of that 4 week window now.

You have to send your transaction number too? I didn't include mine and I got an e-mail saying my secondary materials have all been received and will be reviewed.

this was part of the initial email I'd gotten from them requesting a secondary:

" The $100 (USD) processing fee can be paid on line at http://admissions.med.wayne.edu/secondary-application-payment.php Please include your transaction receipt number with your Secondary Application materials so we can be sure to credit your payment."

I'm hoping that resubmitting today will get things moving along. That's strange that yours went through without including it but mine didn't. 🙁

Oh hmm didn't even see that part since I was just referring to the PDF document that they sent us! Hopefully I'm not penalized for not including mine even though I'm complete 🙁
