Does anyone know when the GME site is going to open for this application cycle? Usually they have the letter of instruction posted on MODS but the one in my GME is from 3 years ago. I keep getting an error message when I try to go in and start the application. Any new 4th years get a letter of instruction from OTSG yet?

Haven't seen anything yet from the AF side but I'll post on here when it comes through. Usually early July I think. I assume Army and Navy come out with their instructions around the same time.

Does anyone know how to arrange the time off to take interviews, specifically if you are in a GMO position? Do we need to burn leave for this or is there permissive TDY?

If you have a really good relationship with your command you can sometimes swing funded orders. If not it can be permissive TDY which is easily done unless your Command is full of a bunch of jerks. Sometimes it takes some explanation on your part to help the command understand exactly what you are doing. (caveat: this only applies to military GME interviews. Doing civilian interviews, unless FTOS, can be a little more of a pain)

From the recent Medical Corps Newsletter from Army July 2015

Graduate Medical Education

http://www.mods.army.mil/medicaleducation/

Applications: Opens 15 July for PGY1, residencies & fellowships:

1. PGY1 applications are moving from ERAS (civilian application service) used previously to MODS

2. Anesthesia converting to continuous contracts (no transitional year preliminary slots)

3. General Surgery all continuous contracts (no preliminary slots)

4. Time on station requirements continue (24 months or 12 months unaccompanied tours)

What does item 2 mean?

Does that mean there are going to be no more pre-selects?

Does that mean there are going to be no more field applicant spots?

Everyone will be selected straight out of medical school?

I thought all pre-selects were already continuous contracts. They way it is written implies that there will be no more field applicant spots anymore. FML
Thanks

I believe they are referring to those applying to specific PGY-1 slots (such as a transitional or prelim year). Field applicants are still able to apply just like everyone else.
