I know I'm a little bit emotional about this process as a whole, but I think it's really striking me today about just how active this forum is. Thankfully there are still a few interview invites going out, but really, the activity seems to be in this forum with people hearing back. All of the hard work is paying off, and we're really progressing on to the next step of this crazy process. It's just amazing to see so many people applying, receiving interviews, and then ultimately winding up with the news of the dream come true. I'm thrilled for everyone and hoping to continue to see this thread climb up higher and higher in the way of posts and cheers!

Pretty sure WUStL has funding in addition to their MSTP funding so they can recruit non-US citizens, which also explains how their class size can be so large.

They are typically called endowments ... Some programs are able to use them to support these outstanding and competitive students, unfortunately, not all MD/PhD program endowments are able to do that.

Oh boy lol -- I shouldn't start a rumor mill. 🤣 I think a better way for me to phrase my post would have been: I believe a few programs have implied that decisions might go out next week. I've heard a few other applicants thinking/inferring they might hear within the next few days (especially for those schools where the MD and MSTP admissions line up -- I think 3 or 4 forums on the MD threads here are chattering about acceptances coming soon)... but to be safe, I'll speak only for myself and say I am pretty sure Baylor is sending out its second round of acceptances next week.

Based on the 2014-2015 thread, it appears that Hopkins, UC Irvine, UW, and UCSD released some decisions next week during last year's cycle. (And UAB, but they released decisions last week so they're about 2 weeks ahead of precedent! And ahead of where they expected to be, as they told us "mid-February" during the interview as well). Vanderbilt and UIC seemed to follow in the next week.

Of course, every school can most definitely change year by year and even from what they say to applicants originally, so we'll have to see what happens... I'm just hoping that we'll all hear the news we're hoping for soon!

I really thought both programs were excellent (the Baylor community was one of the happiest and warmest I've ever seen, my goodness!) and I feel kind of weird about turning them down without going back and visiting, but I'm having some medical issues that will complicate my next few months, so I can't really go to second looks 🙁

I am sooooooo sorry to hear about this, @Penguin33. First and foremost, I hope your health is well and improving as quickly as possible! I can also imagine that it is very, very hard to not be able to attend revisit days and that this may be weighing on your mind. It completely sucks, and I'm so sorry. I hope you are hanging in there during this time. I am so saddened to hear this news, and I'm so worried about you! I hope my magical vibes of health being sent through cyberspace are making their way over to you!!

As a personal note related to the topic of this forum, I also find your spirit and actions completely humbling. This is absolutely less important than your health, but thank you from all of those waiting to hear back at each of the programs you declined for being so darn thoughtful. It is incredibly amazing that you were able to make so many tough decisions especially considering how much you have going on and that you were still thinking of others waiting to hear -- I think that says a lot about your character, and you're the kind of dude/dudette who I'd want as my doctor someday!

You will be an incredible physician scientist and I'm honored to have seen the very beginning of your journey. Very, very huge congratulations on WashU!!!!!!!!! They are so fortunate to have you. Put simply, you are incredible, and I can't wait to stalk your progress at WashU like a hawk when the time comes. 😀
