Sigh, I suppose...I mean, I'm grateful to have an interview there, but the whole process is kind of inhumane.

I did, at one of the VAs. It's a little different, in that this VA has two locations (main hospital and outpatient clinic), so I applied to two "tracks" that correspond to the two different sites within that one VA. Have not heard from either yet, and they have not yet been posted on here either.

Agreed. It is a shame that we can't require them all to use some scheduling software. I mean, even doodle.com would be nice and skip the hassle of thinking a date was open that was not.
 
I finally have some time to give more updates! I know these are pretty late and probably aren't helpful to anybody currently applying to internship, but they might be helpful for people in the coming years!

I received an invite from University of Florida on Tuesday. I sent in my preferences for interview dates immediately but have not heard back with a confirmation. Has anyone received an email with a confirmation for interview date?

I did. I also replied this morning, and then in the afternoon I heard back from them saying my preferred dates weren't available. 🙁 So I responded with an alternative and as of now, I still haven't heard. Kind of a bummer because I really wanted to book my flight. :shrug:

You too! I'm trying to keep it in perspective and remember that even though I didn't get my top 2 interview dates--I still got an invite! And so did you! :highfive:

I received an offer to interview from Florida on Tuesday too and same situation. I emailed back my preferred dates and haven't heard back yet.

My friend and I received one first this thing morning and we both replied but never got a confirmation. Probably responding to those first for whom the times don't work?

I haven't heard back about my preferred dates either! I emailed back relatively quickly. Hopefully they are only emailing for dates that are filled up already and will notify us on Monday if we are confirmed.

What is the purpose of this thread if people are withholding invite information and only share the info by backchanneling others? I'm a little confused by the point of this.

The invite was for Phoenix Children's, neuropsychology track. Not intentionally withholding information, just enjoying my Saturday away from my phone!

I understand only telling the OP to maintain anonymity. Still sharing info through OP and I think there are a lot of people who do that.

Some folks just message syzergy and then the information is posted in the list on the first page. So the information is still available to all and people who are concerned about anonymity have the chance to maintain their privacy.

I'm really curious about how it's going to be to navigate this too! I didn't really think it through when accepting the interview for 12/5 - my post birth recovery has been relatively good but still things are pretty exhausting. Kind of banking on rapidly progressing so I can make it to the sites via either subway or taxi and being able to negotiate time to pump in the middle of the interview...time to start figuring this out! Would be interested in the outcome of your study, and feel free to reach out if there is something specific I can answer for you.

chasingadream I couldn't agree more! Are you thinking of telling your sites/asking for any kind of special accommodations related to the interviews, or just powering through? How many weeks postpartum are you now? Sending all good mama wishes your way

I had my baby in June of this year, right at the end of therapy practicum going into advanced. I was horrified to inform practicum sites I was having a baby. I really didn't think training supervisors were all that understanding. I took a site that allowed me to start a month later than everyone else as long as I met all the summer training requirements. Until this point my children were on a really well organized schedule. My two oldest were in school and after-school while I was in class or training and then we were all home in the evenings together. So that I would not uproot my children I applied to mostly sites in my area for internship, there were three that I could not pass up in other states and if I interviewed and placed there we would probably be separated for a year until I finished to keep the stable.
Parenthood is treaty but can be done.

My baby will be turning 1 next week, I dealt with the same fear. Thankfully my supervisor and program were very understanding and supportive. I had him over thanksgiving break and was able to start right back up the following semester for classes. I took an additional month of of practicum, so I started the first of February. I agree it's definitely challenging but can be done!

I'm heartened to see some discussions about balancing parenthood with internship apps, interviews, etc. As a graduate student mother I feel like this is a pretty invisible experience, and I love having the opportunity to share our experiences with each other, offer wisdom and ask for help!

This conversation grew from my request for insight about navigating internship from grad student parents (prospective and/or current--input from all is welcome!)...I'm in the early stages of designing a descriptive study that examines our experiences as well as the perspective of internship training directors, and your thoughts are helpful in thinking about what questions would be meaningful to ask the broader population of interns & site staff. The goal of said investigation will be to give a more detailed context to the current recommendations (available here: http://www.appic.org/Portals/0/downloads/APPIC_GUIDELINES_FOR_PARENTAL_LEAVE_1-21-16.pdf) in order to strengthen support for parents & parents-to-be in a manner that can be streamlined across sites.
 
Still glad it sounds like it was just one or two sites that alerted people over the weekend! I'm also decreeing Thanksgiving Day an invite-free time, at least for American sites. (Hope they listen to me.)

I am three weeks away from my first notification date and its driving me crazy
I dreamt last night that my friend kept getting all of my invites. Like to sites she didn't even apply to only sites on my list. She thought it was hilarious. I did too AFTER I checked my junk mail and did a search for site names in my email ......... :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Ugh, I'm with you. I've started having dreams about my teeth falling out, which typically happens when I'm feeling out of control in my life...this whole experience is like exposure therapy for control freaks.
